Short stay
Location: Its in downtown close to restaurants, bars, transportation, theaters. Very convenient location, but because of its location, parking is a big issue. Its either metered parking, paid parking or valet from the hotel in which they charge $25/day. The hotel building is old but its been renovated. It has a nice restaurant/bar. The rooms are small but updated. Nice fluffy beds, modern decor, wifi, flat screen tv.You either have the city view for an extra fee or the bus station view. Its a good hotel for short stay.Theres not enough closet space to put in a 1 week worth of clothes.

Great experience!
We stayed at The Sofia after reading reviews about it. We got a great rate on Expedia. The only thing we read that was a negative for some was the size of the rooms. We dont spend a lot of time in our hotel room when we travel so that was not an issue for us. Also, there is a lot of storage space as well to get bags and clothing out of the way. The rooms were very modern, nicely decorated and very comfortable. Even though it is one of the oldest hotels in San Diego you would never know it since it is so modernly decorated. It is located within walking distance to the ocean and to the Gas Lamp District. Also close to the Greyhound station, ticket station, trolley station, Amtrak station and the Coaster commuter train stop as well as bus lines. The zoo was a short bus ride and a bus that goes directly to the airport was a block down as well, took 15 minutes to get to the airport. There is a coffee shop next door too. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

"Very Impressed with the Sofia
Spent two nights in the Sophia while visiting friends in San Diego. The hotel is within walking distance of the Midway and the Maritime Museum, the Gaslamp Quarter, Santa Fe Station and the Cruise Ship Dock. It is also on all the major Buslines and one block from the Trolley line. We took the bus to the Zoo and the Airport and had no need for a car during our visit. The hotel is clean and modern and provided a relaxing atmosphere.
