We are glad that Katherine's group had a good time at our cabin. The upper bunk is not intended to be used by adults, because it is narrower than a standard twin, and as Katherine points out, it is close to the ceiling. We did not know Katherine's group intended to use the bunkbed and we will make sure guests understand this in the future. Since COVID, expectations for cleaning have increased significantly. Achieving those expectations, even in a small home, requires substantial time and effort. Our cleaning fee, less VRBO's commission, goes directly to our housekeeper, is standard for the area, and takes into account travel distance and the cost of gas in this rural area. It does not include the cost of supplies. All we ask of guests is to strip beds (and start a load of laundry if they have time), take the trash out, scrape the grill and remove ashes from the woodstove if they have used them, and return all furnishings to their original locations so our housekeeper can clean and disinfect more critical areas in the limited time she has between guests. We do not ask guests to do any other cleaning, but it is possible that a load of laundry was inadvertently left unfinished by the housekeeper from the previous guests. We were not aware that this had happened, and although we appreciate that Katherine took care of it, we certainly would not have required her to do so. (And on the rare occasion guests do overlook the checkout tasks, we have never charged a fee.)
