ESTA form now compulsory for all Visa Waiver Program countries
By
Expedia.ca staff
Citizens from countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program who wish to travel to the U.S. for business or travel purposes for 90 days or less must now obtain approval through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) at least 72 hours prior to their departure. ESTA is a web-based program that collects security information from visa-free travellers and allows the American Government to screen travellers before they board a plane to the U.S. This online form will replace the green visa waiver form (I94W) which is currently completed while en-route to the United States. Passengers should visit the Web site https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov and fill in the required information.
ESTAs are in addition to the requirement for all passengers to submit Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) data.
Canadian citizens are exempt from this program. This requirement does not apply to Canadians even if the passport is issued abroad. For more information, visit the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada website.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has provided a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions regarding ESTA available on their Web site at http://www.cbp.gov.
