What are e-tickets and why should I use them? Electronic tickets, offered by most major airlines, allow you to travel without a paper ticket. The only record of an e-ticket sale is in electronic form in the airline's computer system. When you buy e-tickets on Expedia.ca, you'll receive confirmation of your purchase via e-mail. The e-mail will include your itinerary information and confirmation numbers. You will not receive a paper confirmation, receipt or tickets. When you check in for your flight, give the ticket agent your name and flight number, or provide a printed copy of your itinerary along with government issued photo identification. Note that a valid passport is required for travel outside Canada. An increasing number of airlines are offering e-tickets. Please be aware that e-tickets may not be available for all of the flights offered by a particular airline. How do I travel with an e-ticket? When you check in for your flight, give the ticket agent your name, flight number and valid passport or other government issued photo identification. Note that a valid passport is required for travel outside Canada. For your protection, some airlines also require that you show the credit card used to purchase your ticket. Due to airline check-in and security requirements, you may be asked to present a printed copy of your e-ticket confirmation e-mail at check-in. Expedia.ca recommends that you print and bring a copy of your e-ticket confirmation with you to the airline check-in counter. To print a copy of your e-ticket confirmation:
I am traveling with an e-ticket. How will I know that I have a confirmed reservation and a seat assignment? The e-mail you receive when you purchase your e-ticket includes your purchase confirmation number. This confirmation number is on record with both Expedia.ca and the airline. If you have a confirmation number, your reservation is confirmed. The confirmation number is also listed in the itinerary that Expedia.ca saves for you online. To view your itinerary, click the "My Trips" link at the top of any page. Sign in as usual. You'll see a list of all the itineraries we have stored for you. You'll find the confirmation number for your flight in the flight portion of your itinerary. Each itinerary is saved until your trip is over. To be sure you have a seat assignment, arrive at the airport at least three hours before an international flight departure and one hour before a domestic flight - and check in promptly. Whether you use a paper ticket or an e-ticket, early check-in is necessary. We strongly recommend that you print out your flight confirmation e-mail and take it to the airport with you. What should I do to obtain a paper receipt for my e-ticket itinerary? Since you will not receive a paper receipt, itinerary, or confirmation letter automatically when you purchase an e-ticket, we suggest you keep a copy of your confirmation e-mail or print a copy of your itinerary for your records. You will also need it, along with your valid passport or other government-issued photo identification, when you check in at the airport. Note that a valid passport is generally required for travel outside Canada. You will be required to check in at the airline ticket counter or automated kiosk to receive your boarding pass. Print a copy of both your itinerary and your e-ticket confirmation e-mail to present at the ticket counter to obtain your boarding pass. To print your e-ticket documentation:
When would I need a paper receipt for my e-ticket? If you are travelling internationally, a paper receipt may be required if you need to change your travel plans en route, or if one of your flights is delayed. Some airlines accept printouts of confirmation e-mails, such as those sent by Expedia.ca, as documentation. Check with the airline about its policies before you depart. Some employers require paper receipts for business travel expense reports. Some companies accept printouts of confirmation e-mails. Check your company's policy to find out what documentation is acceptable. I had to cancel my e-ticket. How do I rebook for another time or obtain a refund? If you have an airline credit from a previous trip and you are ready to rebook, you have two options for exchanging an unused electronic ticket:
