How far in advance can I book an air ticket on Expedia.ca?

At Expedia.ca, we use the same reservation system used by airlines and travel agents around the world. This system permits reservations for travel within 330 days. This means we are unable to display availability for reservations further in advance than this. To reserve a flight on Expedia.ca, please wait until your travel falls within this range.


Can I select a particular seat when I book my ticket?

Expedia.ca offers access to Seat Pinpointer during the purchase process. Seat Pinpointer is also available on any purchased itinerary. If the airline has made the seating chart available to Expedia.ca, Seat Pinpointer will display seating information on the flights in your itinerary, allowing you to request a particular seat. If no charts are available, Expedia.ca will send a generic request with your seating preference, such as a window seat, to the airline for you.

While Expedia.ca offers Seat Pinpointer as a service to its members, ultimately the airlines control the assignment of seats. Although Expedia.ca forwards your seat request to the airlines, we cannot guarantee that every request will be honoured.


Which name should I use on my airline ticket?

Important: When purchasing airline tickets, you must indicate your full legal name as it appears on your official, government-issued photo identification -- such as your passport.

Do not use nicknames, abbreviations or other names (such as the family name of your spouse) if they do not appear on your identification.

For security reasons, the name on your ticket must match the name on your photo ID, or you may be refused boarding at the airport. Airlines are generally unable to modify the name on a flight ticket after the ticket has been purchased.


Is my credit card number safe?

Customer transactions with Expedia.ca take full advantage of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption technology. SSL technology is available on most popular Web browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, and provides a high level of security through an SSL connection.

In an SSL connection, each side of the transaction has a security certificate, which your browser sends to Expedia.ca and vice versa. Your browser then encrypts your credit card number using information from both its own certificate and the Expedia.ca certificate. This action ensures that only Expedia.ca can de-crypt the data, confirm that the data came from your browser and that the message has not been tampered with in transit. This "three-way" security is how most secure transactions take place over the Internet.

Why am I having trouble when I enter my credit card number?

Expedia.ca accepts the following credit cards on behalf of airlines, hotels and car rental companies:

Visa, Master Card and American Express.

While Expedia.ca accepts all of these cards on behalf of travel and service vendors, a vendor you have selected may only accept some of these cards for reservations or purchases. Expedia.ca will display only the cards that are accepted by all vendors in your Itinerary.

Below are some suggestions that may help you resolve issues:
  1. Enter the billing address for your credit card exactly as it appears on your billing statement.
  2. Check that you have selected the correct credit card type.
  3. Expedia.ca does not currently accept debit cards. Please try again using another form of payment.
  4. Expedia.ca does not accept certain corporate credit cards as payment. Please try again using another card as a form of payment.
  5. Expedia.ca uses address verification between the ticket mailing address and the credit card billing address as a means to protect against fraud. Some banks issuing credit cards may not provide address verification. Please try again using another card as a form of payment.

Can I delete my saved credit card information?

Yes, you can.
  1. Go to www.expedia.ca and click "My Profile" at the top of the page.
  2. Scroll down the page to "Purchase & billing information".
  3. Select the credit card you would like to delete and then click "Delete selected credit card"
  4. You will be asked once more if you would like to delete your credit card. If so, click " Yes, delete this card".
  5. Your account should then be updated successfully.

Can I provide my credit card number over the phone once I have booked a flight?

Yes. Here's how:
  1. Create and reserve your itinerary on Expedia.ca.
  2. Once you have completed your itinerary, call 1-888-EXPEDIA (1-888-397-3342) and be prepared to provide your itinerary number.
  3. An Expedia.ca agent will take your credit card information over the telephone and store your information in our database.
  4. After the call is completed, visit Expedia.ca to complete your purchase. You will only need to enter the final four digits of your credit card number to complete the transaction.
  5. Any subsequent reservations will only require the final four digits of your credit card.

Why doesn't Expedia.ca find all flights?

Expedia.ca does not display all flights that match your search criteria, only the least expensive or those that most closely match your schedule, depending on the search option you choose.

When using Expedia.ca, you are accessing and searching a computer-reservations system used by travel agents throughout the world. However, this access does not guarantee that you will always find a fare that has been listed in the newspaper, advertised on television, appeared on another website, or one that someone else has received.

Airlines change fares and rules in the reservations system on a daily basis. Generally, these fares vary in restrictions, rules and availability. These restrictions, rules and availability affect which fares you see when you search for flights. For example, there may be a limited number of seats on each flight that qualify for a specific discount. Or, the fare may require specific routings, or a Saturday night stay.

The flights that Expedia.ca shows you are the flights that have available fares for you to book. If the fare you are looking for does not show up, it very likely falls outside of the search criteria you have specified, or the flight is full and there are no available fares for you to book.


What if I need to change or cancel my flight arrangements?

I've seen a better flight price advertised elsewhere. Why don't I get that price using Expedia.ca?


There are a number of reasons why a price you have seen elsewhere may not appear when you search on Expedia.ca:
  • Expedia.ca shows you only flights that have seats available. Advertised fares may apply to only a few seats, and those seats may have already been sold.
  • A small number of discount carriers are not available on Expedia.ca. To make reservations with airlines not available on Expedia.ca, please contact those airlines directly.
  • A special advertised fare may be offered by a resale company, which has already purchased seats from the airline and is reselling those seats to the public.

When searching for a best-priced flight, why do I sometimes get a lower price when I choose a specific airline than when I search on all airlines?

Expedia.ca is designed to find you an inexpensive flight close to your preferred departure time. When you submit an online search for all airlines, we search through a smaller selection of flights from each airline based on the departure time you've chosen.

For example, if you specify that you want to depart at 2:00 p.m., we might look at all flights from all airlines between noon and 4:00 p.m. If you specify only one airline, we look at a broader range of flights throughout the day from that one carrier.

Because flights at different times of the day may be more or less expensive depending upon whether or not they're "rush hour" flights, a lower-priced flight may turn up when you search on one airline.
If you're flexible with both the airline and departure time, we suggest that you search for flights on all airlines departing at any time. This search strategy may help you to come up with better prices.
 

I know there's a flight on this airline at this time, but Expedia.ca doesn't list it. Why not?

We show you only those flights that have seats available. All seats on the flight you're looking for have already been sold.


Does Expedia.ca offer Tour Operator Vacation Packages?

We're there to help you! Just use the Pre-Packaged Vacations option when searching for a vacation package to help you narrow down your selection. It's simple.
  1. From the home page in the "Create your perfect trip"box select "find a pre-package vacation".
  2. Select the destinations that interest you. You can select from several locations in the drop-down box.
  3. Choose when you'd like to go. Your options are varied. If you are not sure, indicate you are "flexible on dates"

What are e-tickets and why should I use them?

Electronic tickets, or e-tickets, offered by many major airlines, allow you to travel without a paper ticket. The only record of an e-ticket sale is in electronic form in the airline's computer system.

When you buy e-tickets on Expedia.ca, you'll receive a confirmation of your purchase via e-mail. The e-mail will include your itinerary information and confirmation numbers. You will not receive paper confirmation, a receipt or tickets. When you check in for your flight, give the ticket agent your name and flight number, or provide a printed copy of your itinerary along with government issued photo identification. Note that a valid passport is required for travel outside Canada.

An increasing number of airlines are offering e-tickets. Please be aware that e-tickets may not be available for all of the flights offered by a particular airline.


Why does my itinerary say there are seats available, but when I go to reserve them it says none are available?

Because we use a real-time reservation database, availability can change between the time an itinerary is created, and when a ticket is reserved or purchased. Tickets are constantly being sold around the world, so a flight can be fully sold out minutes after your search. The same applies to hotel rooms and car rentals.


How can I enter special discount information, such as frequent-flyer numbers or corporate discounts?

You can enter your frequent flyer and frequent guest plan numbers when booking a flight or hotel on Expedia.ca. When booking a car rental, you can enter the numbers of any frequent car rental plans to which you belong, or the discount codes appearing on vouchers available through organizations that offer special travel benefits. You should receive whatever discounts apply to those programs.

Expedia.ca is not able to process free ticket redemptions or car upgrades from frequent flyer programs.


How can I find and reserve a rental car?

To search for car rental options and to make reservations, please visit www.expedia.ca:
  1. Click on the tab labelled "Cars." If you have already have set up flight arrangements, access your itinerary, and click "Add car rental."
  2. From the drop-down list choose where you want to search: an airport, a place or a U.S. address.
  3. Enter the name of the city/airport in which you want to rent a car. To search for a non-airport rental location, select "a place or U.S. address" from the drop-down list, and enter the city name.
  4. Indicate your pick-up and drop-off dates and times. Select your car type preference and a car rental company from the drop-down list.
  5. Click "Search for cars."
If you need a different airport drop-off location, want a specific car class or special equipment, click "Start search over"on the left hand siade of the page.

Click "Select" to choose one of the search results. On the following pages you can enter frequent traveller numbers, corporate plan information and other rate options.
In certain locations, "Expedia Special Rate" car rentals are now available, offering additional cost savings. Expedia Special Rate car rentals are charged to your credit card in advance: please be sure to review change and cancellation charges and other applicable rules and restrictions when making your purchase.


How can I cancel a rental car reservation?

To cancel a car reservation, log on to Expedia.ca and access your itinerary from the "My Trips" link at the top of the page. Scroll down and click "Cancel this car reservation."

If you booked an "Expedia Special Rate" car rental reservations, a cancellation penalty C$50-100 may be charged.

Can I use a credit card with an international billing address?

Yes! if you have a credit card with a billing address outside Canada you can use it to
  • reserve hotel rooms
  • reserve rental cars
When entering credit card information online, click Non-Canada billing address to enable the international billing address format.

Airline tickets may be purchased on Expedia.ca only with a Canadian credit card billing address Expedia sites cannot provide airline tickets across international boundaries. For example, Expedia.co.uk can only ship to addresses within the United Kingdom.


Can I purchase a ticket for someone else?

You may purchase airline tickets for other travellers by entering the other traveller's information at time of purchase.

After you've selected a flight, read and accept the rules and restrictions, you will come to the "Trip Preference"page. Here you will be asked to "specify your travellers and flight preference". Use the drop-down menu to select a traveller in your profile, or choose "add a new traveller" and provide the person's name, information and flight preferences.


Can I buy travel insurance through Expedia.ca?

How can I find out about senior citizen discounts?

To search for senior citizen fares and availability of flights, visit www.expedia.ca:
  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Click the "Flights" tab at the top of the page.
  3. Enter your cities and chosen dates.
  4. In section 3, "Who is going on this trip?" indicate the number of senior travellers in the appropriate box. Be sure to change the number of adult travellers to 0, if only seniors are travelling.
  5. Click "Search now" at the bottom of the page.
Once you have selected your flights, look at the "Summary" box at the top of the left-hand column. Any applicable discounts will be included in the rate shown here.


I cannot take my vacation on the date I booked. Can I rebook for another time?

Your vacation package may include various components, each with different change and cancellation options:

Flights:

If you are unable to travel on the dates you booked, you may have the option to use your ticket at the current face value. Note that:
  • You must cancel all flights prior to departure
  • You must complete travel one year from the date your original ticket was issued.
  • You are subject to a C$75-C$200 airline change fee per ticket plus any increase in the fare.
  • The ticket(s) must be used by the original ticket holder(s).
  • The ticket(s) must be used on the same airline.
  • No new bookings or revisions may be made within seven (7) days prior to departure.
  • Once travel has commenced, no revisions will be accepted.
Hotels:
  • If you do not have new travel dates, your prepaid hotel reservation will be subject to applicable cancellation penalties based on how far in advance you cancel your trip.
  • If you do have new travel dates, you may be able to change your existing reservation to these new dates for a fee.
Cars:
  • Prepaid car rentals are subject to a cancellation fee of C$50-100 depending on how far in advance the reservation is cancelled.
Trip Extras:
  • Prepaid tickets to attractions and services are non-refundable after purchase.
In addition, any changes or revisions to a vacation package will be subject to a C$50-100 administration fee per package.

Why can't I book an around-the-world fare with Expedia.ca?

Expedia.ca cannot offer this type of airline ticket at this time. Around-the-world tickets involve complex itineraries and fares that are available from a small number of airlines. Please contact the airlines directly for assistance in booking this type of fare.
