The Scene Bellini operates in the first floor of an old Shadyside residence that previously housed Cafe Fotoforum's offbeat gallery and cafe. Its facade is so demure that without a photo, it might take a few fly-bys to find. Inside, warm salmon-like reds and soft browns engulf customers. Diffused lighting from red glass fluted wall sconces provides an intimate glow that is muted enough for intimacy without provoking eyestrain.
The Food Tantalizing bordering on spiritual. A cappuccino-sized roasted red pepper soup topped with a dollop of Sambuca cream began the meal. One savory taste blended into the next as a salad composed of endive, crumbled blue cheese, walnuts, hunks of charred bacon and decorative slivers of warm pear cleansed the palate. An incomparable waiter suggested the veal medallions, which were scrumptiously sauteed atop caramelized onion cannelloni and a woodland mushroom ragout base.
