The place to be in Zanzibar
A nice and comfortable place to stay. Food, bar and service was amazing. Beach was perfect. Beautiful location and very relaxing. Pity about the tide going so far back during low tide. Makes swimming during the late morning and early afternoon very limited. Too many hawkers who follow you around on the beach trying to convince you to do a tour or an activity. Makes beach walks very unpleasant. But the place, bars, restuarants and Friday beach party makes for a wonderful beach getaway.

We spent an excellent time in Waikiki resort. Staff is very attentive and careful, hotel is very comfortable and well situated and the food at the restaurant very good. The only bad point would be the mattress a little bit too soft for our preference.

The property is truly stunning! Beach is even better when you see it in person, one of the best beaches I have ever seen. Not to many people at the hotel so nice and peaceful. The room was very cosy and the porch was nice to chill on. The staff are amazing, very friendly with great service. Management checked in with us daily which is a very nice touch. Was welcomed on arrival with cold towel and drink. Half board very good value for money aswell, for the price paid it is very good. Breakfast is small but you can add more at small price, again this is included in price of half board and 3 courses at dinner it really is good value for what you get. For a 3 star hotel i would say service and food is 5 star. If i wanted food or drink they was happy to bring to my terrace. Wasn't expecting entertainment but there was 3 nights when we had a show at dinner so nice surprise for us! I would definately come back and recommend to friends and family.

Great location and reasonably priced. The proximity to the beach is great. There isn't much to do outside of the resort (immediate proximity) so as long as you are ok with the beautiful ocean and beach you should be ok for short stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at Waikiki resort. Everything from the pick up to the drop off was perfect. I went there as a solo female traveler and from the moment I arrived I felt very taken care of and welcomed. A very special thank you to Baraka in reception who made sure that all my excursions were booked and that everything went perfectly. Traveling in Africa made me nervous but he made sure that I felt safe and stress free. It was truly a paradise that I left behind. I miss it already!

Management failed to follow through on return airport service. We emailed prior to arrival, stating we would require airport transfer, drop off and pick up. We clarified with them again at check in and scheduled a departure time. When we checked out the night we asked again if there would be a return organized at 7am for us and the manager confirmed that we had a return scheduled. There was no taxi or shuttle there on time, so we had to hunt one of the staff down (no manager available) and he was able to call us a taxi, 40 minutes after we were supposed to leave. After arrival, the cab driver informed us that the hotel staff said we would pay him, even though we already paid for shuttle service. The cab driver provided his phone and we were able to call the resort. The person on the phone stated we would have to pay an additional $40 but neglected to say how as he was unwilling to card our card, the cab driver said it would only cost $25. This not only meant that there is a huge mark up on their transfer services but they were unwilling to even try to rectify the situation even though we were at the airport almost late for our return flight. The person I spoke to failed to get a manager and HUNG UP on me when I asked to speak to one. This debacle cost us an extra 30 minutes at the airport. The manager only returned our call over 15 minutes later after we had withdrawn more cash and paid the taxi driver. After our conversation the resort emailed us blaming us for the situation

Dear Elliot Thankyou for the anonymous review The fact of the matter is that you as guests only ever paid the hotel the 50$ for the one way way transfer even though we wrote to you to confirm prices on the 10th January...There is a big difference between the one way or return prices and at check out time you only paid for the incoming service I as booking manager never received any confirmation or time about the return journey and we have your check out form as proff of the amount that you paid We were indeed contacted by a thrid party driver that you took from outside that was angry because you wuldn't even pay them saying that you had already paid at Waikiki...Really??/ That is why we wrote to you If there was any miscommunication we feel that this came from your side and if you had indeed paid the 90$ for the return journey this problem would never have happened We thankyou again for your comments

Great resort right on the beach
Within the first 5 minutes of arriving, we were greeted with 2 glasses of fresh peach juice. We arrived and the people that were previously in our room were late to check out. The resort staff were accommodating of this and gave us breakfast, let us explore the beach and made sure our room was clean. The room was clean and well maintained. Backpackers tight I’m on cash* beware that prices of food are ~10-15 USD and drinks ~8 USD. No wifi in rooms but there is 2 public wifi spots. It cuts out sometimes. Staff is very nice and being able to sit out right on the beach late at night in the open beach restaurant is very nice.

This is on a public beach. I was constantly solicited and sexually harassed by vendors. The room facilities are okay - but, there was hair all over the bathroom walls and everyday awoke to many bug bites. Staff - they were intrusive. I had headphones in, trying to relax and they would come try to talk to you about random things. Also, they wanted you to fill out a customer satisfaction form daily. It was irritating as I did not want to be bothered with filling in forms on my holiday. The booking manager was unbelievably unprofessional. She was terrible to deal with. Tours - Their website says they will book for you, but they really will not be helpful in this regard. I booked my tours 2.5 months in advance and a week ahead of time, the booking manager said she never got my confirmation email. Also, they promised tours that did not exist and charged me for them. I had to work with them over my holiday to get refunded (which I did) but it was not something I wanted to be bothered with on my break. Wifi - not in rooms as advertised, which was fine. However it had to keep being reset in the designated wifi areas. Just the worst holiday ever. There is a lot more I could write, but I do not want to waste anymore of my time on this place. The manager of the hotel was nice. He needs to better monitor his staff''s behavior and insure they properly do their jobs.

Dear Dorian...I can only say that we were expecting this review from you...I can honestly say that we have never had to deal with such a rude person in all our years of being in business. How the can the staff be intrusive if you won't even let them talk to you? All they wanted to do is say good morning and know that everything was ok....I think that it is called being polite...NOT INTRUSIVE. As for the tours ...Please go ahead and check your emails very carefully. The day that you confirmed that you wanted the tours you then wrote to me again 3 hours later telling me to "Wait as you were checking for a better deal" then I never heard from you again...So in my eyes you never actually confirmed and it was a good job that i did indeed contact you a week before your stay to confirm things. On the second day you asked to go back to the hotel because you were tired and then proceeded to write me an email at 5am asking for some money back but I couldn't speak to you...only contact you by email. It baffles me as to why you chose Waikiki...A friendly,easy going place with staff that actually care. You would think that after spending 3 days with a private tour guide and driver you would have least said goodbye and thankyou upon leaving the car....but no that didn't happen. Please don't go shaming our hotel and services as we will not accept it.

Nice resort can be better if breakfast is improved
It's very hot in Zanzibar so the air-condition in the room was spot on! Hot water in the shower. There are no ocean view rooms but its a hop away from the beach. The grounds are kept really clean and it's quiet. There was no TV in my room. The rooms and sheets are impeccable. The breakfast was a joke, lacking in quality and variety-needs improvement!

Wonderful location for rest and recuperation!
Lovely attentive staff and management made me feel at home and at peace. Truly gorgeous beach and the twice a day extreme circle of tides leaves something interesting to explore when the lagoon almost dries up during the low tide. I was constantly provoked to capture the magnificent colors of sea, sky and surrounding flora with my smartphone camera, resulting in much envy by loved ones wishing to join me in Paradise.

Unfortunately the internet connection here in Zanzibar can be sometimes slow Waikiki does not charge any fee to our guests for internet usage.

Lovely hotel but not on a Friday night!
The Waikiki was a lovely hotel to stay at. We had a room right on the beach and there was plenty to do there or you could just lie around and do nothing if you wanted to. Our last night there was a Friday night when they host a party from 10.30pm until 3am and we subsequently got very little sleep that night. Any other night of the week is very quiet and relaxing!

The Waikiki Resort was just magical, it really was like paradise. The staff are so friendly and the owners are always there to help with and queries about the island or culture. The resort itself is like something from a magazine and I was so impressed, also the food was delicious! I would recommend this to anyone looking to escape and relax on a beautiful beach.

I booked and paid for a nice room with air condition but was downgraded with the explanation....I thought it was just a mistake since I was extending my stay to arrive one day before. Never asked and did not receive any money back nor did anyone ask if it was a mistake. Also I booked to stay earlier because of what was offered on the website... found this not to be true. This famous Friday night.

It seems strange that you were downgraded without any explanation When booking online you are able to see clearly the different room types that Waikiki has to offer. Each site though has there own policies regarding date changes .and/or cancellations It is possible that if you changed your dates at the last minute that the room you had previously booked was unavailable Again we are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay

We visited the resort in the off season, which meant that the pizza oven wasn't working, and not all drinks were available. There was also some renovation taking place. This did not really negatively affect our stay however. The resort is definately more relaxed than some of the pricier places around it. The menu in the restaurant is good and the chef was really good. Try the african coconut fish or seafoodcurry. The burgers were great. Breakfast was also very good. The location is great. You are never more than 50m from the beach. They serve drinks and even food on the beach. The traditional rooms are a bit too basic, but the newer rooms are very nice. The staff organised motorcycle rental and other excursions for us. By the way, only rent a scooter in Zanzibar if you are willing to pay bribes to policemen. In all the stay was pleasant

Best Beach in Zanzibar
We stayed for 7 nights at Waikiki and, overall, were very happy with the hotel (considering what we paid). Our room was always cleaned, fresh towels on request, clean linen and a great beach area with loungers and thatched 'umbrellas'. Our only two minor cons were (1) the food became repetitive and lacked flavour. Pizza's were not available. We do understand we were there during low season but this should possibly be communicated to us on booking. (2) Aspects of the hotel required some maintenance. These were not major issues but some attention to the weeds on the path, tiles missing on the paved areas, and holes in the thatching of the common area would be good. The manager (Flavio) did inform us that they were closing for a month to undertake maintenance so I'm sure this will be dealt with. Otherwise we were extremely happy with our stay and, as mentioned, this is on one of the best beaches in Zanzibar.

Nice place if you are looking for solitude.
The owners are a lovely couple who go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. I would give them an A+ for effort but unfortunately the staff that they have working for them only rate a C- in my book. I witnessed frequent bickering between the staff in the two restaurants which made for some uncomfortable moments for me. The restaurant has a limited offering on the menu, the food was ok but quite often they were out of things on the menu which is disappointing when the menu was so limited in it's offerings in the first place. The pizza was great and I would highly recommend it! However, the final straw for me was when they had no coffee for breakfast because they ran out. How does that happen? You know that you need coffee for the breakfast buffet each morning so make sure your inventory is stocked. Just plain oversight and lack of concern to please the clientel on the part of the staff.

Stayed at Waikiki for 6 nights in Feb . At low tide you can't swim at the beach but that goes for all of the east coast beaches . The water in the rooms are brackish water . Friday night is party night with very loud music until early hours of the morning . Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again . Globetrotter

Excellent budget friendly place w/ personal touch
Waikiki beach resort is owned by the italian/English couple Flavio and Sarah, who run this small resort personally. And that is noticable in the day-to-day operations. Issues are dealt with swiftly, there is a personal touch to everything. Its located on the northern side of the island, right next to the Neptune beach resort, where the waters are almost always shallow enough to enjoy swimming in the sea, and the water will hardly ever be to deep to stand. Its a kiteboard center, and therefor many kiteboarders will find their way here. This adds to the relaxed and "young" atmosphere, although the clientèle definately isn't only youngsters! On friday nigh there is party that seems quite renowned around the island. Just be aware that this might lead to some noise in your room till early hours (unless you're partying of course!).

We had great time in Waikiki hotel in Zanzibar with my boyfriend. Staff was extremely helpful with everything. Mr. Mirage help to us organize trip to Ngorongoro Park near to Arusha. Mr Fabio F&B manager give first aid to my boyfriend when he has accident with jellyfish. Food was been served to us was very good. I am highly recommend this hotel.

cool place, very clean, friendly staff. good food at the restaurant. bar on the beach. rooms right on the beach. very convenient and relaxing. Unlike Nungwi at the north where all the hotels are. This one is more a couple place. If you're single and looking for fun, Nungwi is better for u. They have this cannibal party every friday, which last until 3 am, and they were playing bad top 40 music when I was there, so careful. If you're diving saturday morning at 8, you're done. Also for some reason, the place is packed with Italians.

This hotel is a true gem!
We travelled around Zanzibar and the location if this hotel is perfect. Not around the other big hotels, great quiet beach and generally quiet area. The staff is local, and they are extremely friendly. The hotel is owned and run by a couple with passion for Zanzibar, that has put their soul in the hotel. You feel instantly at home - finally a place in Zanzibar to really relax. And if you don't want to relax there is a very good kiteboarding school at the hotel with professional instructors. The hotel consist of 1 restaurant and 1 beach bar. They have recently installed an original pizza oven that makes the best pizza I have tasted in a long time. We only stayed four nights, but I could have stayed for 2 weeks easily. We stayed at bigger and more expensive hotels in Zanzibar, but just forget about it - here you have it! Much more relaxing, and a personal experience from the staff. The hotel is quiet all week except on Fridays, when they host a great party and invite tourists from other hotels and locals. Great show! I have stayed in over 100 hotels, and can say that this is the best hotel I have stayed in at so low rate!

The resort was well located. The rooms were very clean and well kept. The only disadvantage was that the bathroom good had a massive clear glass panel which was slightly strange. The pizza was amazing and drinks were nice. We were disappointed with the selection/price of the Africian Buffet.

Totally recommend!
Easily the BEST resort I've ever stayed at. The owners are wonderful and attend to your every need, the food is delicious, the rooms clean and the location is perfectly situated on the beach. Perfect place to relax, sunbathe, meet others, relax some more, and if you want, kitesurf. The only downside was a dodgy travel agent who works through the resort. He arranged our transfer to dar es salaam airport on a "one hour ferry". It turned out to be a 2.5h ferry ride and we only by some miracle made our flight. Aside from that minor point it was a fantastic holiday. Additional bonus is they have a terrific party at the resort on Fridays, great if your looking to meet other people.

Island Feel for Sure
Management very helpful and open for suggestions. Food and menu is not always up to standard especially breakfast. Staff need training and is not professional. I made a few suggestions and I believe that management will implement it as they are very eager to improve the standard. Rooms are clean and the location is PERFECT!!! if you want to feel you are on a tropical island, Waikiki is the resort......let hope they improve the minor irritations - We'll visit again

Perfect! Great location, great staff, great food!
Rooms are literally on the beach, the location is perfect! The beach was the most beautiful place I've ever been, and at low-tide you can walk out to the reef and see octopus, crabs and starfish. The staff could not have been better!! And the food (especially the Swahili buffet and the pizza) was phenomenal! We originally booked to stay here two nights but extended our stay to five nights because it was so amazing. The Friday night party was a lot of fun!

Très satisfait
Petit endroit intime et plein de charme, j’ai adoré les logements en petites maison indépendantes. Pour un prix très intéressant. Seul bémol: les tarifs au bar ou à la carte, qui sont ceux de l’Europe alors qu’on pourrait s’attendre à un prix local.
