“Affordable & great location for attending the Fringe Theatre Festival”
My sister and I have stayed at the Marlborough a number of times during Winnipeg's annual Fringe Theatre Festival. The proximty of the hotel to the Exchange District is a big plus for us. The Marlborough serves our simple needs: a comfortable place to sleep and a friendly and helpful staff. We don't need bells & whistles when we're "fringing" but we do appreciate the decor and charm of the lobby and ballroom areas. The restaurant is in a lovely room, too, and the food and service we've had there for our breakfasts was top notch. Sure, the building is old, and yes it is located in a somewhat sketchy area, but it is not scary, and this is coming from two 50-something females who often walk back to the hotel around midnight. The Marlborough is a couple blocks away from a few other hotels that are on or are closer to Main Street. The others are much less affordable and are probably newer or look spiffier -- but if you just want a comfortable place to crash after being out all day (and the convenience of a restaurant on the premises), why pay more?
“Good hotel for the price and location”
Whenever I'm visiting Winnipeg, I usually stay here. I stay here many times a year and I have no complaints about the hotel
“Totally depressed with hotel condition”
Entrance bad. U will finding standing people asking for money or cigarettes. Main manager not friendly. Staff at the reception is nice. Lifts very bad. Carpet and furniture in the Passage very dirty and old. Will experience kids making noise during night. Complimentary breakfast with any tea or drink. I experienced drilling sound from 0130 am to 0230am so couldn't sleep. Very casual.
“Antique”
Very small rooms--very old building
“No go”
We had a problem with the drainage in our bathroom, the hotel was also very unclean and overall services were poor
“Marlborough”
Free Breakfast=Perfect
“Un-Empressed”
The Marlborough Hotel boasts of beautiful arcitecture, which it has, but the rooms are nothing to talk of, quite shabby and our room had a VERY noisy heating system. The "complementary" breakfast, although quite a selection does not include beverages, not even coffee. Sort of disappointed for the beginning of a holiday.
“Unexpectedly Bad”
Unfortunately the lobby and cafe downstairs will lead you into a false sense of security and thoughts that you have picked an okay hotel. Upon getting to my room on the 6th floor, numerous structural issues were present in the hallway, which only worsened when I got into my room. The bathroom was in sorry shape, with chipping and bubbling paint, rust in the shower, and cracks in the wall - but the rest of the room was no better. Worst of all, from 2-5am the sounds of drunk people causing a ruckus through the floor could be heard, eventually resulting in me calling hotel security at 5am because my night had already been ruined. Top this off with the sounds of people in both rooms on either side of me violently vomiting, and you've got a hotel that looks nice (if you ignore all the people asking for money and cigarettes outside) but fails to deliver once you step inside.
“The staff was wonderful”
The breakfast was excellent. There was coffee in the rooms. The oddest thing was that I thought the tv was broken, it just happened that the switch beside the bathroom light shuts off the tv. Makes it interesting until you find this out, also tends to be shut off inadvertently. Thew staff was extremely friendly and so kind. The breakfast was on an open menu and was much better than any continental, I have had at other hotels. I would definitely recommend them. The hotel is a tad past its prime but it is still quite beautiful, and well cared for.
