“Second Time Around”
We had stayed at this hotel last November and the service was a little bit better than it was this past weekend. Previously they had valet parking free of charge and as of now they have $15 a day parking that you have to do yourself. Also we had booked a suite about a month ago through Expedia but when we checked in they said they had no suites left and were not sure how we booked a suite. They did accomodate us with ajoining rooms but it was a little disappointing at first.
“Great Deal!”
We stayed in this hotel as it changed hands from Red River to Holiday Inn, and it was an absolute steal. Great downtown location (though we wished they'd had parking, it wasn't too expensive), super comfy beds and attentive and friendly staff! It was a last-minute, rush purchase and I did not regret it one bit!
“under renovations”
Kind of a no care attitude, they offer no parking. Set the alarm clock, they never sent a wake up call and I had to return my rental car. The hotel was under renovations, quite loud in the room. Don't face the street, the windows are not good enough for the noise. Find it quite strange that a property owner finds it suitable to list rooms then have drilling and general contract work going on in the hallway. An apology in the form of a letter at the elevator isn't sufficient. How about closing floors and working on them one step at a time, with a buffer floor in between. WIFI kept going out. Pool was closed and it was 35 C, renovating it in January not July might be more practical. Location is great, for the price you can do much better downtown. Once the renovations are done I'm sure it will have good reviews, maybe have to work on the service, seems like a skeleton crew operates.
“Not as described. From Thunder Bay traveler”
This hotel is lacking in so many ways. First it has NO onsight parking. The only parking available is owned by the university and requirs payment. $3.00 from 6pm to 6 am, $8.50 from 6am to 6pm and $2/hr. The hotel does have 10 reserved spots on the lot that again cost $9.50 and is ONLY good till 9 am the next day and you are NOT guarenteed the spot. The hotel is VERY hard to find, the building is labled as a Holiday inn and suites and the only markins for red river is a hanging sign above their door that is slightly hidden from the street. It took us an hour to figure that one out. The pool as of July 15, 2011 is out of service pending renovations, the hotel its self is switching to a holiday inn. The electrical outlet in the bathroom was faulty. And to top it all off my car got broken into the first and only night here. And it was locked...with an alarm. Tough to hear on the 10th floor and its not like the hotel will do anything they do not own the property. I will say though that the room is very nice. The beds and pillows are a dream, the room was very clean and well kept. Most of the hotel staff were very nice and the manager we spoke to was understanding as well. 2 / 5 from me and that is just because the room was nice, I wont be coming here again.
“Just OK”
This hotel is right downtown so it's close to shopping and equally far from everything else. Good if you're a business traveller I suppose. Parking is not included and that came as a surprise. Front door locked after 11pm and you need your room key to get in. Room service looks like they don't actually make the bed, just pull the covers level. I asked how often they change the sheets and could not get an answer on what hotel policy was. The staff claims that policy is in flux as the hotel is undergoing change from Red River Hotel and Suites to Holiday Inn. That seems to be true as there is a mix of both names in various locations. I would not hesitate to stay there again if their room rates are still competitive.
“Good hotel, well priced and very comfortable”
Good hotel, well located in downtown Winnipeg. The hotel is in good condition and has a nice pool and fitness centre. There is a restaurant on site too. The only problem for this property is the parking around the hotel. There is parking next to the building but its's somewhat inconvenient as you cannot purchase parking over several days only for several hours per day.
“Convenient and affordable”
Great location downtown, accross from The Bay and next door to the University of Winnipeg. New beds, pillows and linens, very comfortable. Friendly service all around. Very affordable.
“Great location in downtown”
The hotel is undergoing some renovations and the room I had was very nice. The bed was comfortable. The staff was efficient and friendly. The location was convenient for restaurants, shops, & public transit.
“Would go back”
Thank you Expedia for finding me a great executive suite at the great price. I had to speak with staff twice about bedding (the lack of) for my sofa bed. My daughter was provided only mattress pads to sleep with the first night. They were out of blankets?? I had to get maintenance to get the fridge working-shouldn't that have been checked before we checked in. We couldn't get the bedroom cool enough, I should of called down again & had that checked. But I thought the maid would have picked up on that. The room was 75F. Parking fees were ridiculous! Great location for walking to some restaurants & the MTS center.
“Comfortable, moderately priced, clean”
The hotel was under renovation while we stayed there so workers wandering around and taking up elevator space. Pool was often closed but even so, they were courteous and helpful. Rooms were clean, nice and comfortable. Only thing is in Winnipeg with the wind and dust - you cannot see out of the hotel windows. But a nice place, safe, quiet and very reasonably priced. Ice and drink machine right on the floor.
