“Magical Getaway”

My mom & I went to the MVGH to celebrate her 81st birthday and do a little x-country skiing and hiking. We had never been to this hotel before and we had an amazing experience! The two night stay began with an upgrade to one of the seven rooms with its own private balcony looking out over the best view in the world - the entire presidential mountain range all snow covered! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, from the bell hop to the front desk people to the wait staff to the farm and equestrian staff. The food was delicious and beautifully presented; the service was professional, yet friendly. Everyone there was having the time of their life and sharing their enthusiasm as they passed each other in the hallways or outdoors. This is a newly renovated historic hotel in a most beautiful spot with impressive efforts to be eco friendly. They have their own wind energy, water tower, organic garden and apple orchard. They have a barn full of clean, friendly animals - goats, llamas, alpacas, rabbits, sheep. The pool and sauna area is clean and peaceful. The fitness center and spa impressive. It's obvious that the people who work there love it and are proud of the place. We felt spoiled and will definitely be back! I can't think of one negative thing to say except that the snow was melting so the x-country skiing wasn't that great! Not much anyone can do about that!

“not impressed with food”

The hotel itself was beautiful with grand views of the mountains with complimentary x country ski rentals. We decided to dine in the tavern at the hotel, my husband ordered a stuffed chicken breast that tasted as thought is was pre made (possibly frozen), I ordered haddock which had no flavor and we also thought it to be previously frozen. The hotel is not located in an area where you would have other restaurant choices that is the only downside to staying here.

“Great place for a winter vacation”

Pros: - Well kept-up property - Very responsive and polite service - Many activities that can be organized through the hotel and done on-site -- snowmobiling, dogsledding, sleigh ride, snow tubing, ice skating - Bretton Woods and Cannon ski areas are nearby - Very nice onsite dining Cons: - On vacation weeks, it's really noisy. Partying college kids across the hall one night; groups of preteens running up and down the hall shouting another night. Staff was responsive when we asked them to check into it. - Beds were really firm -- too firm, for some folks - Few dining options off-site Overall: It's tempting to compare this to the "other big old grand white mountain hotel" 20 minutes down the road. The Mountain View Grand was recently redone, and while it's in great condition, it sort of comes off as new-money rather than being authentically old like that other hotel. Still, it's very family-friendly, everyone was courteous, and is less expensive than that other hotel near Mt Washington.
