This was a great place to stay for a three day trip to Whitby. Emma contacted me by text the day before we were due to arrive with check in and parking instructions which all went seamlessly. The room (room 6) was a very good size with a large bathroom and plenty of good quality towels. A very nice touch was the complimentary water and pint of milk in the fridge. There was also plenty of storage space. There is no breakfast on the premises but a ten minute walk into town provided plenty of options. Overall a lovely hotel and a great place to stay in this lovely seaside town. We would definitely stay again.
Easy to get to town close enough to walk although to and from town quite hilly but whitby is hilly and beautiful. The whalebone arch is located on a relatively quiet street, the room on the ground floor lovely, cant fault it. Received information from owners regarding time of arrival, on street parking permit was provided by the property even includes the day of departure so we were able to enjoy a third day at whitby before going home, Whitby is lovely and will be back.
3 keys to access the property front vestibule and room door at times a little finicky the smart television was placed on a wardrobe whi h was to high to see all the screen unless you were standing fridge in the room was perfect for food and drink bed was comfy a little on the soft side bathroom and shower was excellent also smart mirror which was novel with blue tooth wifi was good and when we stopped the accommodation was quiet would book again different room ?
Great comms from Emma and dave, comprehensive booklet explaining everything locally, spotless clean and like new.. Comfiest bed I've ever slept in. 11/10 all day long.
Nice property. Quiet with a comfortable bed. It’s at West Cliff, about 20 minutes walk from the station.
It’s technically near the beach but the cliff lift is out of action so it’s a walk to get there. The quietness is the problem as the area feels residential. To get into Whitby is a fair walk down. There is a cost cutters with cash point at the roundabout, a cash only Chinese on the cliff top road and a bar (which was rude when I went in). There are ice cream vans about but you have to walk into town to do much.
The only issue with my room was that I couldn’t charge my phone by my bed. I would have preferred breakfast but they don’t do it here.
Super clean and very nicely decorated, lobby, stairway & room, we stayed for three nights, our only issue was the size of the shower, so small you can only wash your top half, also with no daily room service, which didn't bother us there was only a thimble full off shower gel and one of shampoo to last three nights.
Really nice guest house with a very clean room with a comfortable bed, sofa and good shower. We had room 6 which was a lot larger than I would expect.
Easy check in and out with free on street parking. Great location for walking to Whitby town centre and West Cliff Beach is a short walk away.
Wonderful stay in what is now called Whalebone Arch . It is situated on the harbour side of Whitby close to the Promenade which allowed another access into Whitby. Probably wouldn't have visited that area if I had been staying closer to the centre. Very small shower stall but spacious bathroom.
Quite a steep hill from the railway station but great views over the town and Abbey can be seen from across the river .
Very comfortable large room, complimentary water and fresh milk provided for my 3 day stay.
Wonderful information booklet provided with directions which I used to get the most out of the village.
Excellent guest house. Clean, well presented and great remote communication from hosts. Would highly recommend for short walking distance to main areas of Whitby. Lovely room, super comfy bed and lucky enough to have a view of the sea from our room.
The entrance was clean and welcoming and our room (6) was beautiful with a very comfy bed. The bathroom is lovely and spacious with all towels provided.
Instructions regarding accessing the property were clear and accurate. We didn't see anyone else during our stay other than a few guests. The house was quiet at night.
The house itself is situated really close to the beach and there is a hotel on the end of the road with a lovely bar and great screens for watching sport.
The Melrose guest house/The Whalebone Arch is a lovely place to stay check in was easy David, Emma and his mum didnt miss any attention to detail. The room was lovely clean and spacious with a comfy king size bed. Plenty of tea/coffee available, milk and water in the fridge. Would definitely like to return and would recommend to family and friends.

The room was supplied with tea and coffee and a pint of milk in the fridge was a nice touch . It was peaceful as well and at the end of the road was the beach . I would definitely book to stay here again when in Whitby . So it’s a five star from me and my partner.
