“Close to White House & Memorials”
I was in DC for 2 days with the ONE Campaign to meet with my Senators & Congressman. Also was invited to the White House to discuss the importance of Foreign Aid. This hotel was within walking distance to the White House and the staff was very helpful when I needed a cab to Capitol Hill. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was glad they could hold my luggage after I checked out since I had a day full of meetings before leaving Washington. The neighborhood was very quiet and I felt safe. My room was clean, which is very important to me. The beds were unbelievably comfortable. Yes, it is an older hotel, but I think that is part of it's charm. The spaciousness of the room and the kitchen made it feel more like home. My kitchen did not have a microwave, but a quick call to the front desk immediately took care of that. Having a liquor store and 24 hr CVS next store was great! I would definitely recommend this hotel to others...in fact, I did. Friends from Canada, who were attending the meetings, actually switched hotels on my recommendation. I will certainly stay at the State Plaza Hotel during my next stay in DC.
“Not impressed , but good .”
The "State Plaza Hotel "met our expectations . Customer service is good . Just the room tempetature is cold sometime and it is not possible to adjust it. Overrall we are satisfied .
“Budget Crunch Special”
Hotel is very old, and they have done what they can to disguise it. The suite idea is good, more room to move around in, I changed from one suite to another, and they both had the same furniture, but the second one was larger. The beds are wood frame that move out from wall, so you can see they do not clean behind the beds. Kitchen is a good feature, but there is no where but a very run down CVS next door to shop. And it was really expensive. So be sure to bring your own groceries. Gypsy style. There is no choice on heat or air conditioning. The whole building runs on one system. So it only provides heat in the "winter", which means the rooms are really hot. You can turn off the system in your room and open the windows, but no screens. You still get the heat from rooms around you and in the hallway. Too hot and stuffy for me. Beds are hard, but you get four pillows per bed. Pillows are cheap polyester. The hotel is located next to George Washington University. It is five or more City Blocks to most tourist attractions. Metro stop is a long walk, especially if you are walking at night. Zero family activities at or near hotel. If you have kids, be sure to check windows, they open and one of our opened all the way, not only part way like the safety code states they should.
“excellent value”
I was in town for the Andrea Bocelli concert. I was extremely pleased with the hotel. Clean and the bed was a piece of heaven. Has a full kitchen, a changing parlor and spotless bathroom. If you are in town for George Washington University you can't go wrong. It is within walking distance to Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, Wash Monument. Everything else you have to take the metro, two blocks or a cheap cab ride. Quaint resturants and shopping are there also. I felt very safe walking at any time of day. I especialy recomend if you are traveling with kids and want to make breakfast each day before heading out on your journeys. Staff was also very friendly and helpfull.
“Pleased Packer fan”
Hotel in safe and walkable area. Accommodations were clean, staff pleasant. No microwave, oven, and only one pan in kitchen, but we made do. For a family of 4, 2 parents and 17,15 year old we enjoyed our stay and recommend.
“Good value for money”
Overall the hotel was a good choice in a centrally located, quiet area. The suite was nice in that it had a kitchen and comfy beds; however, the bathroom was pretty average as there was an overwhelming smell of bleach and the tub didn't drain properly. Also, the walls were very thin as we heard the couple next door having a bit too much excitement from about 2-4.30 am one night.
“OK.....”
Old hotel, apparently remodeled. Clean rooms and friendly staff. However, don't offer much of anything else. Valet parking is a rip off.....
“Very good hotel, perfect location”
I was very much satisfied with with my stay at the hotel: very good hotel, perfect location, friendly staff.
“I'll definitely stay again”
The hotel was much better than I had expected it to be for the price. Good location, friendly and helpful staff, very clean room. Not the best in hotel decor, but well-kept nonetheless. The separate, eat-in kitchen was a real surprise and I took advantage of it, cooking meals rather than dining out. The 1960s era tile and mirrored bathroom was also very nice. A short walk to the White House, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center. They would be wise to invest in wireless internet in the rooms though; ethernet cables are not of much use with current devices. I did not try the restaurant, though I heard it was good.
“Very good”
Hotel was great! Good location, great price.
