Sofitel Hotel Washington, DC

Posted 18-Nov-2014
Pros: Location, location, location.
Cons: The amount of towels left for guests and the coffee, way to many grinds floating on top in their breakfast café.
Location: Walking distance to almost everything. The White House is just out the door and to the right. The Mall just a short walk away. Incredible location.
Great location, very friendly and attentive staff. The rooms are tiny which we could have lived with but each night they only left 1 towel for my wife and I. Each night I complained and they promised to correct it the following day but 4 straight days, only 1 towel. Unacceptable. The Hotel bar was overpriced too. We went next door to Joe's Stone Crab and across the street to the Wooden Grille and got much better prices.

An Hotel that leaves much to be desired...

Posted 17-Nov-2014
Pros: One thing was up to par. The personnel at the desk, and the bellhops were very gracious and attentions...
Cons: Just about everything needs to be improved in the hotel...
Location: Location is perfect! Right by the White House and other key Washington DC sites
Our room was very small, with an unusable closet and carpet with small stains and a hole right in the entrance to the room. We asked for a new room and the management placed us in another nicer room, but we had to put up with drilling until 11 PM! We complained, and the management discounted our first night from $400 per night to $200 per night.... The towels are ship and rough. Our room was for two people and they only had one robe in the room. We stayed 4 nights because we were under the impression that we had already paid for all 4 nights. Otherwise, we would have left. Many details in the hotel need the attention of management: the breakfast is very subpar and extremely expensive; the flowers in the entrance hallway have dirty old water and many are dried out, etc., etc. One thing was up to par. The personnel at the desk, and the bellhops were very gracious and extremely friendly...

Fantastic location for a couple of first timers

Posted 10-Nov-2014
From check-in to check-out, this place exceeded our expectations. It's a few blocks from the White House and only a slightly longer walk to the monuments of the Mall. The bed was super firm, which some people may love, but wasn't for me. Room maintenance was done twice daily, and the place was clean as a whistle. Loved it!

Great hotel

Posted 5-Nov-2014
Pros: Location and friendly staff.
Cons: Include complimentary free breakfast.
Location: White House and National Mall is very close.
Location is ideal to walk around National Mall. Hotel is good distance to White House as well. Very elegant and beautiful hotel. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Having stayed in numerous hotels in Europe, I got used to delicious breakfast buffetts included with the hotel stay, so was disappointed that this place didn't offer that. Overall, a great hotel. The hotel staff was very courteous and friendly. The valet parking was a little too pricey.

very very very disappointed with our stay

Pros: location
Cons: new management
Location: close to White House and National Mall
After reading all of the good reviews on TA, we decided to book a 5 night stay at Sofit Hotel and for a "luxury" class hotel it failed miserably. We travel extensively and always in luxury class hotels in general. Part of the reason I book with Sofitel was that they are part of the Expedia VIP+ hotel where you are suppose to get up grades and special treatment when you are an Elite Plus member. We booked their best room available in their best Luxury room class. Upon arrival, the greeting was warm and friendly and they informed me that I was entitle to an up grade to Jr. suite, but alas the suite was sold out for the last 2 days of my stay, I was ok with that, until I check that night out of curiosity, and in fact they were selling the Jr. suite on their web site available during our entire stay. I call the front desk and ask them about it and they say there is a mistake on their web site, and the rooms are not available during the beginning of my stay. So which was it beginning or the end of my stay the room was not available? they then say they would up grade me to the suite for the last 3 nights and I was ok with that. well that never happen. if that was all the problem, I would have not been so disappointed. once we went to our "luxury" room, which I was promise was their best room in the class , high floor and with great view. well the room had no view, on the 5th floor and rather sterile looking and no charm at all.please read the complete review on Tripadvisor

Wonderful hotel near monuments and White House.

Posted 29-Oct-2014
Pros: Location
Cons: In my room, it was time to spot clean carpet. Duvet on bed should have been changed; was slightly soiled.
Location: All the cultural attractions were in walking distance - museums, White House, Mall, etc.
Was on business and stayed one night. Quiet and within walking distance to office.
