“Hotel has some charm”
The location was great. Attached restaurant, Guappo's, was a good place to eat and reasonably priced. Not a super high class place, but it has a lot of charm and I'd go back there again, especially considering the competitive price.

I stayed at the American Inn from 11/6-11/10 2009 & found it a "comfy"! The place is in a good location, accessible to Metro ,a short 5 block walk, there's a local bus stop nearby, many restaurants & free continental breakfast.
“Perfect location for our stay”
This was the perfect place to stay for our NIH appt. It was the first stop on the shuttle, which filled up fast. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone with an NIH appointment. Good resturant downstairs and an excellent breakfast was available in the mornings. Computer for guests use. Pleased to be able to print our boarding passes. Staff very nice and friendly.
“Really comfortable”
This was a nice hotel in a great location. There are dozens of restaurants within walking distance. Had no trouble parking out front and everything was 'easy.' The continental breakfast included cereal and waffles - in addition to bagels and pastries. As I was there for 5 days, I particularly appreciated the microwave on the floor next to the vending machine and the fridge and coffeepot in the room. Soft sheets.
“Good for a visit to DC”
The hotel is clean, breakfast is good. we stayed there with 2 kids 6 and 15. there is free parking. few minutes walk to metro. we came to visit Washington DC, spent all day at the national mall and had dinner back in Bethesda. there are lots of nice restaurants near by including a Mexican one right next door.
“Will Return”
The staff was courteous; rooms clean and comfortable. Proximity to NIH facility was a deciding factor in choosing a hotel, as it's on the shuttle service. Having a restaurant on location was a bonus. It was so convenient to just go downstairs for dinner after a long exhausting day of tests at the hospital. Will come back here for next appointment.
“Would stay here again”
The American Inn of Bethesda was perfectly located for my trip to the NIH. It is in walking distance of many restaurants. The staff was really friendly and helpful. It looked like they were undergoing some renovations so I can imagine the hotel can only get better. Very comfortable bed and clean room.
