“Nice Suites”
We upgraded from the regular room to the Suite. The two room suite was perfect. We were able to hold business meetings right in our room. Service was great - we found a couple things that we were not happy with and the staff was there within 30 minutes to fix them.
“Green Tree Inn - The High Desert's Mid Century Monument”
The Green Tree Inn, with its adjoining golf course, is Victorville's venerable hotel, social hub of the business community, and once hosted a glamorous crowd. Hints of the past can be found in the faded mid-century architecture, the incredible stone lobby, and the time machine coffee shop. The traditional American full breakfast of eggs and bacon is included in room rate and is a great deal (avoid the pastry breakfast). The mid-century waitress, with her hair bunched up, actually called me "hun" when she poured the coffee. I was thrilled. The cocktail lounge was closed, but I suppose it also hails from the same era. I also wish I had the time to try the large, deep pool. Despite being in town, The Green Tree Inn has marvelous freeway access to the 15, and can be reached in or departed from in seconds. Here's the bad news: the neighborhood is rough, which accounts for why the Green Tree Inn had vacancies while others didn't: don't go wandering around at night. The old wing, with the rooms, is showing its age, and the central air conditioning system broke down. Not good in the desert heat. The management found me a fan, but I wish I had booked a suite in the new wing. Oh yes: the TV reception was bad. Next time I will book a suite, though only if the other places out in Hesperia are full.
“Too Damn Noisy”
I was really sorry I stayed here. There are a lot of "permanent" type residents that are of questionable character, and they seem to come alive at night. There was loud music, people yelling and stomping around on the deck. After 3 calls to the front desk I was finally moved to a different room after midnight. It's a funky old building that is anything but modern. Internet was slow, and kept dumping me off line. Worst place I've stayed in for a long time. Pay the extra $20. per night and stay at the Hilton.
“Never Again”
The good. The hotel service was pretty good. They tried to accomodate me as best they can. The bad. My first room was night next to a freeway off ramp and the road noise was too loud to sleep. I asked for another room and they upgraded me at no extra charge. The room opposite the freeway off ramp was on the sunny side and the central air did not work well at all so I was really warm when I tried to sleep during the day time.
