Cons: A lift would be nice
It was a very friendly hotel with comfortable rooms. The staff were very friendly and their manners and competence very good. The hotel was very well situated near a busy situation which was very good for getting around, also near to the grand canal. Would go back there.

Great location, small room

The hotel is near the train station and many vaporetto stops. Very convenient. Our standard room was very small but the bathroom was quite large. The staff, with one exception, were ok. A decent three star hotel

Terrible

Posted 10-May-2015
The shower has no curtain, so all floor was very wet and we had to clean it everytime we showered. The airconditioner did not work properly. Staff had poor customer service level. Good thing: great location.

Beautiful setting, exceptional staff

Abbazia is perfectly situated for travellers arriving/departing Venice by train or cruise ship. Easy walk from station and port. Also close to bus and boat transportation, yet housed in an old abbey and is very peaceful and quiet. Great breakfast can be enjoyed indoors or in the lovely walled garden. Staff is wonderful, especially Mirkko at the desk. They were very helpful with our bags - carried them upstairs and also stored them for us both prior to and after check out. Overall Abbazia is a delightfully unique place to stay. Book early, it fills up.

Great location near train station

Posted 4-May-2015
Pros: Great location. Friendly staff. Still feels like an abbey. Good breakafast.
Cons: Climate control is central. The heating had been turned off but we had warm weather and the afternoon sun beating on the windows made the room ho.t
Location: Short walk from the train station. Plenty of places to eat. Vaporetti stops real close can take you anywhere (San marco, Murano, Burano, etc).
My wife and I stayed ther for 5 nights. I chose the hotel since it was well recommended in my references and close to the station. We reached Venice Santa Lucia station from Florence SMN train station. On exiting the station we face the grand canal and turned left. Within 100 meters was the entrance to the Calle Priuli Ai Cavalleti and 50m in was the entrance to the hotel. It is a former abbey with a welcoming lobby and staff. There is a large rest area right next to it where you can read the morning paper, relax or have a nightcap at the bar. We stayed in room 221 which is one flight up, across a couple of hallways and down a couple of steps and back up one flight of stairs. Not overly taxing but by this time we had visited Rome and my wife's luggage kept getting heavier. There is no lift. Breakfast was just next to the bar with a broad and warm selection. No made-to-order options but didn't miss it. Coffee was an automatic machine but tasted pretty good. The room was toward the back or train station side of the hotel and noise was sometimes an issue (not from the station but from people below). The staff wwas extremely friendly and always willing to give advice or chat. There was an in-room safe. There is a trattoria Il vagone in the calle leading up to the hotel and was a good experience. Once back out to the Fondamenta Santa Lucia (in fornt of the train station), there are multiple vaporetti stops from where you can go anywhere. Plenty of places to eat nearby.
