“Good location”

This was a little hard to find but we made. Room was nice. Breakfast is typical Italian hotel breakfast. Good over all.

“Location was great!”

St. Mark's Square was close by and the shopping was wonderful. The variety of restaurants was fantastic. The location more than made up for the small rooms in the hotel. The choice at breakfast was extensive and it started my day well.

Area recommendations
St. Mark's Square is a must with both the Basillica and Doges' Palace! Both venues bring "alive" the history of Venice.

“A great hotel find in Venice”

This hotel is a great find in Venice! The hotel staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. It is just a couple of blocks from St. Mark's square and relatively easy to find and convienent for exploring Venice. The room was comfortable (although it had a standard hard european bed), but we had no problem sleeping without any noise or interference. Really a great find, and we wouldn't have any issues with staying here again.

Area recommendations
Venice (and the lagoon islands) are a great place to explore. It is easy to get lost, but the residences are very friendly and will to provide directions. Everyone readily explores St. Mark's square and the Rialto Bridge area (which is where the crowds are), but it is just as much fun to explore the Jewish Ghetto in Cannaregio. Also, Murano and especially Burano in the Lagoon are worth exploring. I haven't met anyone who has told me about a 'bad' area of Venice for visiting, depending on your interests.

“Close to St. Mark's square”

Location to St. Marks was great. The service at front desk was good. The rooms were okay -- clean -- just furniture style is old and the rooms smell like stale smoke. Bathrooms were clean and recently renovated. The breakfast in the AM was a nice spread. The hotel was very nice to store our bags for us on the day of checkout while we explored Venice a bit more. Not worth all the $$, but what can you expect when traveling to a heavy tourist town ~ of course the prices are jacked...

Area recommendations
Murano was awesome and so less packed with people... i enjoyed that the most. We took the advice of sights to see in the Rick Steves book....

“Well located”

The Best Western Hotel Montecarlo is just 2 blocks from San Maro Square. The hotel staff was friendly. Typical of most hotels in Europe there was no air conditioning on yet. We were there when the temps were higher than normal. We had to open the windows to get air. There are no screens on the windows and so we got the bugs. The breakfast each morning was excellent. By in large we enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Area recommendations
Close to San Marco Square is an ideal location. You are close to all the must sees of Venice. Vaperettos(public transportation) are close and easy to use from San Marco.

“BUYER BEWARE”

The only reason I wouldn't recommend this hotel is becuase of what they are involved in. Let me explain....the day I checked in I asked about tours and such. They told me about some of the tour brochures they had in the lobby and that they can book them for me. Then he started to tell me about this complimentary tour that will be made available the next morning. He said the hotel offered this tour during down season, which was a boat ride to take us around the local canels. We agreed. The next morning, a man came to pick us up at the hotel and led us to a boat. We were the only ones from the hotel and no one else on the tour, not even a tour guide. We were taken to another island into a glass blowing showroom. We were shown how the glass was blown, and several "rare and unique" pieces, and were offered 'sale' rates. After the tour of the showroom was over, they dropped us off on the other side of our island, where we had to manage walking back on our own. No tour and no canels. Once we got back, we checked out some local stores where we found the same pieces we had just seen at rock bottom prices! We spoke to other tourists and they said they're hotel had sent them on the same so called tour. So BUYER BEWARE!! Your hotels' customer service may not be completely honest.

“Located Perfectly , Great Breakfast”

Great Hotel ! Very simple to get to as long as you zoom in on the map provided. 2 minute stroll to St Mark's 5 min walk from St Mark's waterbus stop or 7 min walk from Rialto Bridge waterbus stop. The breakfast was wonderful with many options. Rooms were spacious by European standards. We would absolutely stay here again. May want to bring rain boots for St Mark's Square in Dec due to flooding from high tide. This did not effect our hotel at all. It was perfectly dry and clean.

When to go
The fall was my favorite time to visit Venice. It's the dry season, but not to humid or hot. You are also competing with less tourists so the prices are better. This trip we visited in December. I thought it was wonderful! Very few tourist so hotel prices are more reasonable. It is the rainy season so bring an umbrella and rain boots for the flooding. The high tide was very interesting to see and all the sites are still open. We didn't have rain boots and saw the sites without getting wet. The locals are use to this from time to time and have platforms for transportation around the square.
Getting there
Use the waterbus. It's reliable and inexpensive compared to a water taxi. The Waterbus transports you to and from the airport and through out Venice.

What to pack
Rain boots in the wet season. And comfortable walking shoes. Try to pack light and bring a suitcase that is easy to carry on cobblestone streets and to carry over several small bridges.

“Right off St. Mark's”

We had a great time staying in Venice, and the convenience of the hotel is a big reason why. The staff was friendly and directed us to quality restaurants off the main tourist areas.

Area recommendations
St. Mark's is near all the main shopping, food, and sites. It's also very close to the water taxi.

San Marco, Venice, Italy: San Marco (St Mark’s) is quintessential visitors’ Venice. The Piazza San Marco, famous for its pigeons, campanile, basilica, Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace) and expensive cafes, is unmissable. The waterfront views are legendary and more gondolas depart from here than anywhere else in the city. In season the Piazza teems with day trippers though just a block or two away streets are quiet and offer more museums and palaces to explore.
