“Very Comfortable”

I'd read the horrible reviews - rude staff, loud hotel and was dreading staying here. I was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly. Yes, they were busy doing their job but would always stop what they were doing if I asked a question but I don't need someone's full attention if I'm just getting my room key. Also, I emailed ahead to ask for directions from the Alilaguna stop and they were quite happy to give directions. We did get a courtyard room so we didn't have to deal with noise on the "street." So, I would say when booking a room, ask for an inside room. But, the location made up for ANY short comings. It was only steps off Piazza San Marco. Venice was our first stop on a three city tour of Italy and this hotel helped set the mood (along with the great chocolate croisant in the continental breakfast). We were very pleased with our stay.

“A nice surprise”

We've seen many hotels in Italy that looked great on the outside but not so great in the rooms. With this hotel we were indeed pleasantly surprised. We requested a large room (the bathroom even had 2 basins!) and that's exactly what we got. It was such great value for the price we paid I wish we had stayed here longer. It is so close to San Marco we could hear the church bells from our room (which may not be so great if you are a light sleeper). Would definitely come back here again.

Enjoyed our stay. Friendly and helpfull staff. This hotel is in an excellent location just off St Marks Square. We would definitely stay here again.

“Best Western Albergo San Marco”

You can't fault the location or the service - though not the most stylish hotel I've ever stayed in this rates highly because the staff are friendly and helpful, and appreciate poor attempts at Italian. I was there in 2005 and this year got the same room, an attic suite for three. Points were lost because the matress on the double bed should really have been changed. But I'd go back again

“Small - Great Location”

As close as you can get to St. Mark's Square. Perfect location for dining, shopping and sight seeing. The rooms are quite small but that was not important to us. Room was clean and staff were very helpful and informative. It was a "magical" place at night with the lights. Also received a great complimentary breakfast each morning. We would return.

“Happy to go back”

The hotel was perfectly adequate for our requirements. The only fault was that there was one wardrobe and no other space to put clothes. The room was small but we went there to sightsee and not to spend time in the room so that was OK. The breakfast was the same each day but it was fresh and efficient. The location was absolutely perfect so for further sightseeing i would go there again. Staff were pleasant and it was very clean.

“Venice 2007”

This was our second trip to Venice and the second time we've used this hotel. Its great strength is its location - virtually no other hotel is closer to the sights of St Mark's Square (San Marco). The hotel itself is comfortable but not over luxurious. We found the staff very friendly and always anxious to help where they could, though don't expect to interrupt a busy receptionist with some trivial query and be greeted with great enthusiasm. If anything breakfast had improved since our 2005 trip, although that was in October when things were a lot quieter. This time our bedroom was on the 3rd floor oposite the lift, generally OK apart from when an American decided to call home on his mobile at 3am If you want to be in the centre of things then chose this hotel - if you want international comforts you can stay at the airport hotels but miss all the sights of being on the spot. Don't forget you can use the 12 euro Allilaguna boat service direct from the airport to San Marco - it takes an hour, you end up a short walk from the hotel and get the most impressive classical view as you arrive
