Won't return

Posted 17-Jul-2014
Pros: Internet, bar
Cons: Staff attentiveness/attitude, cleanliness
Location: walking distance to a lot of restaurants and various neighborhoods
I stayed at the Sandman downtown for three nights in early July 2014. Positives: My reception was pleasant, the desk arranged for a room switch to accomodate my early arrival as my assigned room was not yet ready. I did not eat at the restaurant, but the bar was nice, was always empty, and the bartenders were attentive. Internet service in room was easy to connect to and was plenty fast enough for my to do everything i needed, including video calls. Negatives: One stands out: Besides the pool towels not being stocked (if you don't count the massive pile of used towels toppling over in the corner of the pool area.) ... my room was not clean. Tissue on the floor near the bed and hairs in the bathtub were what greeted me. A call down to the desk and I was assured it would be taken care of in short order. Two hours later, nothing. I went out and reminded the desk on my way through the lobby. Returned an hour later, still nothing. Another call down, another “we’ll get right on it”. Then, moments later, a call back from the desk to tell me it had been discussed with cleaning staff and they said they had already done the work (hairs still in tub plain for anyone to see at that point). I assured him it hadn’t been and finally a staff member arrived minutes later. As the woman, apparently as grumpy as I was at this point, stomped through the three-minute clean-up job and huffed out of the room, I had firmly decided this would be my last (and only) stay at the Sandman

Did the job

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Elevators. Only two elevators in the North Tower which were small and VERY slow. At one point, we waited clost to 10 mins for one that could fit us.
Just needed a safe, clean space to shower and sleep.

Reservation Not Kept

Posted 11-Jul-2014
Reserved, through expedia, a 2 bed room at Sandman Hotel on Georgia and Cambie. Given a 1 bed room with single (horrible) pull out bed touching air conditioner.Staff had no end of excuses as to why my reservation was not kept. Just a bad experience overall.

Did not meet expectations

Posted 10-Jul-2014
Pros: Location, comfortable beds
Cons: Overall appearance of hotel and rooms. Slow check in and check out.
The paint was chipping in our room, especially above the windows. The rooms were also very small and the quality of the picture on the TV was awful.

Close to BC Place

Posted 8-Jul-2014
Location: BC Place; plenty of restaurants nearby, short walk to the marina
Although we couldn't see BC Place from our room, we had a nice view. The best part is that it's only about half a block to the stadium. The restaurant was very helpful in loaning us some silverware for the food that we had brought with us. This is the second year in a row that we have stayed at this hotel. We'll be coming back.

In town for mini vacation with my son Room was quiet, cool and comfortable with great view towards grouse mountain and north van Location was great for our visit to Chinese gardens and close to Japadog! Easy walk to/from sky train and central for accessing Granville street, Robson street as well as Yaletown. Saw the Coupland exhibit at the art gallery too

Good Choice!

Posted 6-Jul-2014
Pros: Nice hotmail for end of day. Very secure with keyed elevator access. Few rooms per floor so not much walking down long corridors like many hotels
Cons: pool area is looking a little worn but OK.
Location: Very central to much of vancouver.
Excellent location. Can walk out easily to shops. Transportation. Breakfast
