“Exceeded expectations”
Having read a number of reviews on this and other accommodation in the Ayres Rock resort indicating that the staff were uninterested and unhelpful, I didn't know what to expect. In fact, it was quite the reverse. Reception staff were helpful and friendly, giving the impression that nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to do a sunrise tour of the rock on the day we checked out, but this was not a problem - they collected our luggage from our room and stored it until we returned from the trip. I got the impression that because this hotel is smaller than the other hotels and hostels with a smaller staff then they were more motivated and able to offer a more personal service. This hotel shares restaurants and cafes with all of the other locations at the resort - if you stay at any one you can eat anywhere. We chose to eat at a carvery restaurant located in one of the bigger hotels and found the service there to be slow and erratic - things would only happen if prompted.
“Clean modern room”
Good hotel, very clean and modern. Expensive for what you get but that's Ayers Rock for you, as all hotels are owned by the same group they can pretty much charge you whatever they like, however the advantage is that you can use all facilities in all the other hotels such as swimming pools, bar, restaurants etc.
“Would Return”
Ayers Rock has several hotels in various price ranges and tis mid-range was good for us. With its proximity to the little shopping center where there are a post office, 2 cafes, a grocery store, a tour office, a news store and a couple of shops, I felt it was the best place to stay. The rooms have microwave ovens; so, you can fix something simple. The rooms are clean and the staff members are friendly and helpful. You can use the internet for a fee and your computer works well in your room. There's also a computer in the hotel lobby as well as in the other hotel lobbys you can use.
“Lost Camel Resort”
Good middle of the road hotel given the prices here at the resort. The room is small, but clean. Our air conditioner did not work very well, which made things not as comfortable as we would have liked in +40 heat, but all in all we were satisfied with our stay here. Definitely recommend the bbq restaurant for dinner (choose your own meats, do your own bbqing) for a great fun casual evening, as well as the Sounds of Silence dinner for a great experience!!
“Mouse in room”
Make no mistake: The Big Red Rock is hot. Do buy the netting to go over your hat to guard against the flies. All you will remember about the Red Rock is the flies. There are no other choices but to stay at one of the Ayres Rock Resort Hotels. If you can, book up. Lost Camel might have been just fine if we hadn't been sharing the room with a mouse. I've done this before in St. Martens so I wasn't so freaked out. Also, do self-cater. The grocery store is fantastic. And there is free washer and dryer use at the hotel next to Lost Camel. Do not go on the evening dinner outing. Spend the money instead at one of the upscale restaurants. Do use all the pools at each of the three hotels. And be on time with the minibus drivers. Our driver drove off, we waved him down, he didn't see us but other passengers did. They saved my life (from the heat and exhaustion).
“Your there for Uluru not the hotel.”
Yalara is very small. Hotels vary from camping to 3 to 5 stars. Room was adequate and comfortable enough. In reality we spent very little time in room. Most time was spent hiking and touring.
“Acceptable, but barely”
Given the limited choices in the Ayers Rock area, The Lost Camel hotel gets away with charging high rates that would otherwise not be possible for a hotel of its class elsewhere. While clean, the interior of the rooms is aging and could use a few upgrades here and there. Beds are small and borderline uncomfortable. No in-room heating is available despite being located in an area in which night times routinely reach temperature just barely above the freezing point. Staff is friendly and helpful.
“Good Choice”
Very good Hotel, friendly and helpful staff. Well maintained and nice Pool. Highly recommended
“Top pick from the lot”
The location within the resort is ideal. There is no need to use the shuttle to get to any of the shops or restaurants. The room had a nice modern touch, but blended in perfectly with the vicinity. Just what we needed.
“Everything okay but pricey (like the whole resort)”
The Lost Camel is a pricey hotel, but so are all the other ones in the Yulara resort, given the lack of viable alternatives. It was the best in terms of quality/price within the limited range of accommodation on offer. The rooms are reasonably well appointed, although with a weird disposition. The toilet/shower face the swimming pool and you need to keep your curtains closed at all times, while the bed sits in the middle of the room. The convenience of being close to Uluru and the Olgas is the defining factor of the Yulara resort. Many travellers stay at Alice Springs and get on tours that visit Kings Canyon and Uluru, staring at the crack of dawn (ie, 4am) and getting there for sunrise at around 7am. All perfectly doable. Budget accommodation exists at a cattle station about 100 km away from Uluru, as well as in the camping ground.
