“More to the name, than quality.”

Given that this was a Fairmont hotel, and it was downtown Toronto, I think that the deal I got was fair and reasonable. The hotel is very nice in appearance and has the luxury environment that is usually advertised. The downside to stay were the following; On one night, 2 or 3 elevators were not operating, which left many people running in and out of non-operational elevators. Despite the price and the fact that the hotel can be seen as a luxury hotel, it lacked some small amenemities such as a phone book in the room. Some were available in the hotel but at a cost. The upside to the hotel I found was friendly service, and staff willingness to ensure your stay is going well.

Getting around
This hotel is located downtown, nearby union station, and is also part of the PATH system. You can get to wherever you need to go from this hotel. One day of my trip I was prettty much underground the whole time without needing to wear my winter clothing, either by way of subway or walking through the PATH system.

“Convenient Location,but needs uplift”

Good service, convenient location. However, hotel (particularly corridors flooring and lighting) needs upgrade. Due to ongoing construction, the surrounding looked poor

“serenity, service and affordable indulgence in the heart of Toronto”

the most relaxing stay I've had at a hotel in years - I didn't' want to leave - it was that enjoyable !! luxurious sheets, cozy rooms, deep bathtubs for those who like to indulge in a relaxing soak , bathrobes - best of all ... the health club and whirlpool & pool & steam & sauna -- club attendant very friendly and helpful - facilities super clean - front desk staff incredibly polite & helpful -- room service quick and meals delicious - I would definitely return.

“Unexpectedly disconcerting.”

A large cigarette burn on the carpet in my room right next to the bed was not something I was expecting from a hotel with such a prestigious reputation - especially in a supposedly non-smoking room. It made me feel 'icky' and a little wary about the cleanliness of the rest of the room. I'll be generous and assume this was a one-off. Everything else was great though: really comfortable bed, efficient and attentive staff, good facilities, great location.

Nightlife
If you can find The Madison, go there. A fun, dingy, yet crowded and lively place with great live music on five out of six floors in a large converted house.

“Standard 'Fairmont' Room a dissappointment”

Great location. Classic Landmark Hotel. Great martinis in the Library Bar. Standard room disappointing - small and dingy. Better value in the newer hotels

Comment from the hotel's management
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for your feeling of disappointment with your guestroom. Our Deluxe rooms are more spacious than our Fairmont category rooms and are a good choice for guests who require extra square footage. Detailed guestroom information is available on our website.

“Love this hotel”

When you stay at the Royal York you really feel like a special guest. The rooms are beautiful and full of special touches...like fresh flowers in the bathroom and creamers for your coffee instead of packages of powder. Some might think it is a bit old fashioned but that is what I love about it!!

“Not that Impressed -”

Check in took 1/2 hour - upon checking in to our king size suite, we were told this was a noisy room an "if I were you I wouldn't stay in that room". So we got downgraded to a queen. Sheets had hair on them, and the room smelled like smoke. I wouldn't stay here again

Comment from the hotel's management
We are concerned about this review and have shared it with our Front Office and Housekeeping Managers as well as our colleagues. We apologize for our serious shortfall in quality and service.
