This was an excellent place to stay for us as we were hiking Eagle Mountain and Cascade River state park. Both were easy to get to from this hotel. I loved the knotty pine in the room and the view of Lake Superior was fabulous. We had a small balcony to sit on and relax. The room itself is small, but all we needed. The beds were super comfy and the room spotless. Our check in was effortless and the two young ladies at the front desk were great and had fun personalities. We will definitely stay there again when hiking on the North Shore. H

Great views of Lake Superior from room. You could hear the waves crashing. They were having issues with the TV when we stayed so limited channels. The fridge in our room didn’t work and the water pressure in shower wasn’t the greatest, but for the price we didn’t mind.

This location was great for my little north shore getaway with my daughter! It was the perfect midpoint and absolutely loved how it was right on Lake Superior! Hearing the waves crash is amazing. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Clean rooms as well and the shower water was hot! Would stay again!

The view from window was exceptional. Love the abundant hot water and the bathtub. The bed was very comfortable. The location was close to activities we wanted to do.

Not bad if you wantca view and nothing else.
Great view! Only 2 towels and one roll of toilet paper. No breakfast to speak of. Road was really close so the noise was there. The room was okay. Bed wasn't horrible but kinda hard. There's no a/c, and shower is making a screaming noise, and the vent in the bathroom was broken.

Hello Monty, We do not have a full breakfast, however, we do offer a light snack selection of muffins and granola bars with Caribou Coffee in our sunroom. Rooms come standard with 1 set of towels per guest for space saving purposes. If you need anything additional during your stay, we would be happy to supply you with any additional amenities at the front desk. We don’t need an a/c in winter of course, but even in the summer the screen door and breeze from the lake keeps it under 80 degrees during the day and the nights are a nice cool 60. Thank you for your feedback about the vent. Please never hesitate to tell us if there is something wrong with your room upon arrival as we do have a maintenance man that can attend to any issues you may have. Kind Regards

Incredible place to relax. Amazing views. The perfect place to wake up, relax with coffee, and hike a waterfall or two. Take a drive to Grand Marais for dining, shopping and massage at LutZen.

Retro cabin style rooms have many modern updates. Everything was in great working order. Could have used a few USB charging plugs, but we brought our own strip so wasn't a problem. Best feature is the large balcony overlooking Lake Superior. Unobstructed view was incredible. Breakfast is scant but the small muffins and breakfast bars were great for us hikers. Coffee is better than most 4 and 5 star hotels I've stayed. Every staff member was friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again!!

Very reasonable price to pay for probably the best view of the lake and sunrise you could have! Peaceful, as the patio/balcony is right on the lakeside, and not facing hwy 61 as some places do. You can hear waves with your patio door cracked open, and you can see the lake right from your bed! Loved it, recommend it, and plan to stay here again. Manager was super friendly and very good at her job.

The property could benefit from having a deck area for residents to utilize or a way to get down to the water. Loved the balcony, wasn't crazy about sharing a balcony directly with another couple (small separation between, was not private at all). the location however was great- so close to lutsen, so close to hikes on the superior hiking trail- a really great place to stay!

The Cliff Dweller is an older property but very clean and reasonably priced. The location can't be beat - right on Lake Superior.

I would stay here again.
I enjoyed staying at Cliff Dweller. Easily accessible. Initially the room smelled quite musty/stale. Turned on fan, kept deck door open. Fan needed to be dusted. I wanted a room where I could sit and listen to lapping of water, and this totally met my needs. It was also one of the more affordable facilities.

Great location
Great staff and service ensuring check in was smooth even while I booked indirectly through 3rd party site. Clean rooms, full beds were smaller than prefer but sufficed. Great to have a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Beautiful lake side view on the balcony. A little loud next to other balcony’s but everyone seemed respectful in the evening time. An in room coffee pot would’ve made this much more enjoyable since the coffee wasn’t served until 8am on site and closest nearby served at 7am. Stayed for a race weekend and sacrificed the coffee option. Right next to paved trail route and a few min from Lutsen and Schroeder which made for a great race location too. Would recommend for the location and value!

Outside is a little weathered. View wonderful! Inside updated and clean. Had confirmed lower level room but not available at time of check in! Hospitality room not open until 8 am for coffee!

Beautiful location
Where else can you wake up to a view of the lake just outside the door? Location was great. Price was reasonable. I was disappointed that the bikes weren't available early in the morning for a sunrise ride. Also, we booked for three people, but only had towels for two. I would have liked a juice option for breakfast, but the grab and go was fine. I didn't realize it didn't have air conditioning, but the fan helped and the breeze off the lake was nice. Star gazing off the balcony and listening to the waves from the balcony was nice. The bald eagle fly over was a bonus!
