Snorkeling right at the property, you can see the variety of colorful fish. Property definitely needs a little facelift, we wish the have screen doors & windows as an options for guests to sleep with ocean vs air conditioning. WC and shower are out door which is way better. very roomy. choose beach front bungalow to see sunrise or sunset.

Overwater bungalows are well appointed, spacious and clean. The marine life is world class! Our two disappointments and ones that were shared by other guests we spoke to was the quality and selection of food and the state of the common areas/dining room - quite underwhelming. With only one dining option that you must frequent 3 times daily it gets quite old after a few days - especially when the food quality was well below average. There are also no options for snacks throughout the day expect for 2-4pm. Good luck, when you have kids with you!

Bungalows are nicely designed from 20+ yrs ago but not practical anymore - high ceiling and open concept makes it impossible for A/c to cool the bungalow. Outdoor bathroom is nice. The restaurant staff always go out of their way for you. Note that the restaurant menu is limited. Freshwater pool is nice alternative to the ocean- not really for swimming, more for dipping. Lots of small fishes to see in the lagoon. Not all overwater bungalows have a/c. Make sure you are booking the correct type of overwater bungalow. Very wide beach for everyone to use. Never feels crowded in the resort even when fully booked. Resort is closing for renovations on Oct 1,2023 to reopen in late 2025. I would suggest waiting until then

This place is absolutely beautiful. Waking up in a bungalow over turquoise waters filled with sharks, fish, turtles, sting rays etc is magical. We were on the furthest out Suite and felt like we had the whole ocean to ourself. I am not sure there are many places like this left in the world (particularly for this price)! We booked a tour swimming with mantas and snorkeling through the resort and loved it as well as the daily free shuttles into the village (theres one good restaurant in the village). Our whole week here felt like a dream!

Great place to stay, at times you feel like you are the only people there. Don’t even have to get in the water to see so many varieties of fish including reef sharks. Snorkeling was awesome. Staff were great. Meals options are a bit limited but you are in the middle of no where so understandable.

Most inexpensive overwater bungalow
Great place for just relaxing and doing very little. Best place I’ve been so far for snorkeling right on site, especially under the overwater bungalow’s. Private island you have to take the boat from resort to mainland only one store and church nothing else cost of everything very high. But this area is so beautiful it’s heaven on earth! Beautiful pink sand and the best opportunity to see all kinds of sea life. Takes a couple flights to get to Tikehau but it’s so worth the money.

Overall, the resort is well designed although it’s showing it’s age. It’s s due for a major renovation next year. I had an overwater suite, which is large, luxurious, and really well designed. The access to the lagoon works well, I used it everyday to go swimming. Due to the remoteness of the resort, I had all my meals there. To be honest, they’re no more than adequate, BUT let’s not forget that the place is on its own motu where everything is shipped in by barge or air. So we cannot expect the profusion of ingredients that we are used to in most other places. Even compared to Rangiroa, this place is remote. I came here for nature, not to indulge in gourmet meals. I took a trip the village one day, using the hotel’s shuttle. The service was impeccable even though it was free. So why the poor review? Before coming to this resort, I was on Moorea with my sister and we withdrew too much cash. My sister took some when she left for Switzerland. I still had more than 10K francs in my wallet. When I got to the resort, I tried to put it in the room safe, but its batteries were low and it no longer worked. I reported to the front desk, they promised to do something but never did. I didn’t follow up, thinking that this is a luxurious place so theft must be nonexistent. But I was wrong. When I got to Tikehau airport and checked my wallet I found there were only 3K francs left!! I had to withdraw more when I got to Tahiti airport. A beautiful but marred experience.

Dear Mrs Truc We thank you for your message. Nevertheless we are very sad to read the situation you describe which "does not exist" when you stay at The Tikehau By Pearl Resorts. Maybe you do not remember a cash purchase of 7000 xfp - about 59 Euros- (at the village, or a last minute purchase at the Boutique, or tiping a staff ?) which would explain the situation. We are also sad that regarding this, you did not call or message the hotel since you realized the situation, except on this media. Regarding an issue with the safe in your room, all our safes are new, and in case of issue (incorrect use, or low batteries for a new safe ?), our Maintenance Dpt comes to fix it when you are in room (of course they do not fix this kind of issue if the guest is not in room, for security reasons). We believe the issue was not fixed because at the time you requested it, maybe you were not in room. Moreover, the safe was working perfectly well before your check in (as it is controlled before every check in), and your room has not been occupied since you left. Following your review, we checked the safe again today and the safe is working perfectly well. Again, we are sad to read your review. We sincerely hope the rest of your stay in Polynesia met your expectations. Best regards The General Manager

Great experience, location, staff
This is a very nice resort in a great location. This is the 3rd island visited and 2nd Pearl resort this trip (first was Taha'a). We stayed for 3 nights on December 18 to 20, 2021. We had booked a premium overwater bungalow, #5, but found it had no a/c which was surprising as some do have so the premium label seems misleading; we should have read the details more thoroughly. Luckily, a Swiss couple with 2 small children had also just checked in with us and they wanted a overwater bungalow, so we made a quick switch. They got a nice upgrade at no cost but our beach front #22 bungalow with a/c was well worth it. It is on the corner of the channel but still quiet despite the shuttle boats passing in front every hour or so. The bathroom was outside which we liked overall, except during the heavy rain on our last full day which made it a bit slippery and messy. This resort is not a nice as Taha'a, but was told it is scheduled for a makeover in '23. Regardless the room and property was well maintained. Tikehau and this resort has a completely different vibe than our stay in Rangiroa at Kia Ora which has a few caveats detailed in that review. The Tikehau staff and manager in particular was very friendly and welcoming on our 10 minute boat ride from the dock and he has a beautiful voice; he also hosted and sang during a Polynesian show. We did a Manta Ray excursion about 10 minutes away and enjoyed it.

Stayed here after staying at Kia Ora in Ragiroa (Overwater Suite vs Overwater Bungolo). Calmer water in Rangiroa but much better snorkeling at Le Tikehau (and go snorkel with Mantas). Better more interesting/difficult drift/currrent diving in Tiputa Pass at Rangiroa (pet the dolphins, large sharks, coral/reef fish,) than Tikehau pass (coral/reef fish). Nicer bungalo at Le Tikehau. The major difference between the two aside from the diving and snorkeling was the food service- Tikehau didn't even have menus or phone numbers for room service in room. The breakfast, lunch and dinner times at Le Tikehau were also very limited (one hour for lunch and dinner!) and if you didn't show up prior to its end- too bad. Breakfast starts at 7 but they would serve food (buffet) until ~9. Don't show up after though. The bar has a limited snack menu though. Both places are absolutely stunning and have amazingly nice friendly people and we'd go to either if given the opportunity.

Fantastic place to 'get away'. Bungalow over water very clean and definite unique experience. Staff very nice. Beautiful scenery. Crystal clear, blue water with lots of marine life. Only critique is that wood exterior is in need of refinishing/staining. Looks weathered. Hot water heater did not function twice for us, but staff was called and immediately fixed. As others have mentioned, food variety / quality not the greatest. That said, we really liked the poisson cru and red tuna. Breakfast was kinda blah. No comment on lunch since we skipped.

Amazing high end experience staying in bungalow over the water. Exactly what I was hoping. Jumping in for a swim every morning before breakfast. Privacy and thoughtful accommodation. Sadly the AC did not work the first two nights, and the food at the restaurant -besides being expensive which I wouldn’t mind- was extremely limited and sub par.

We were very happy with our accommodation. exceptional villa overwater No. 44. villa. we stayed for 6 nights. The food was a total disappointment - in fact we lost weight! We even doubted the resort had a qualified chef. Most of the meals were in fact reheated frozen fair like tv dinners! The restaurant staff were quite lazy and while friendly they didn't exert themselves to make you feel welcome and see to your needs. We didn't see any chef or kitchen staff appear from the back area at any time. 90% of the evening main courses did appear to be frozen and microwaved. There is much better value for over water bungalows on other islands that offer a better standard of restaurant.

Very wonderful and close to nature. Especially good if you like snorkeling. Lots of life, corals, fish. Sharks are cool, not dangerous. We saw a stingray, octopuses etc. Not too very much else but to relax. The one thing I wish is that they had a small continental breakfast- petit dejeneur - as an option as the breakfast buffet is spendy, more than we want. We went to the village to get breakfast snacks and just made coffee in the room.

Nice hotel for snorkelling off the shore and relax
Nice hotel to relax with good options specially for lunch and dinner. Pleasant service at restaurant. The cleaning staff is aware of the amount of ants in the beach villas. I would expect a much better cleaning process to avoid this, and a quicker removal of the room dishes/cuttlery...when dining in room to avoid an even higher amount of ants and other little animals. Reception hotel not too friendly and not too supportive. Diving is a main activity for choosing this hotel. This hotel has a house dive team. However, reception did NOT offer an alternative diving company when the diving for the next days was complete, telling us simply to wait for a day in which the on house dive team had availability. This gesture was very unwelcome from our side as they perfectly know that there are only 2 more diving companies nearby and they could have provided us with the contact details, but they did not. In addition, they last cancelled diving activities last minute if the number of divers was not as high as expected.
Response from General Manager on Jan 9, 2018
Dear Traveler, We thank you for your message. We kindly recommend to book in advance regarding activities, to make sure you can enjoy it once here. There are 2 diving centers in Tikehau, and not much solutions when both are sold out, or when they have an issue with one of their engine on the boat. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience and we thank you for your understanding. Best regards

A True Gem in Tikehau
The Tikehau Pearl was wonderful in every way. The staff were wonderful and welcoming, and the food was terrific. Our overwater bungalow was simply enormous with a huge swim platform and plenty of room to lay around in the south pacific sun. The resort is basically on a private island which can only be accessed by boat and it is extremely remote compared to places like Bora Bora or Tahiti. That was the draw for us, and we could not have been more pleased. There is great snorkeling right from your room and a scuba center is on site as well. We spent hours just roaming around the beaches and enjoying the beautiful quiet. The added bonus is that you are so far from anything you will see the most beautiful night sky of your life. Don't go if you want nightlife and bustle, but other than that, you cannot go wrong.

Secluded location
I was very much looking forward to the stay, but the hotel was not worth the price. The staff clearly treated some people much better than others and it was not clear why. For example some tables in the restaurant always got fresh flowers some none. There were also "special" dishes offered to some people and not others. The reception staff was unenthusiastic and actually dissuaded us from doing excursions. Of all the front desk staff, only one was nice and helpful. The manager showed little care and was absent most days.
Response from General Manager on Dec 22, 2015
Dear Wusia, Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about your stay with us. We are sad to read you did not enjoyed staying with us, and to read such a bad feedback. Indeed, we take care of all our guests in the same way, especially at the restaurant, where usually the staff gets very good comments for their kindness and service. We are very sorry if it is not the feeling you had. The flowers are coming fresh every morning from the village, located 15 minutes by boat from the hotel. We do not understand your note regarding special dishes. They are on request, and also proposed by our Maître d'Hôtel, to all our guests, usually after 3 nights. We did offer these specials to you as well. The first days of your stay, you did not want to try them, and on 1 day, you did try them (shrimps). Regarding excursions, you stayed with us during a few days bad weather period. We are very sad you were not able to go in excursions but the weather (for which we are not responsible for) was not good enough for security reasons. The Hotel Manager was on property, as usual, and you met her as well. At that time, you never complained about anything, answering that everything was fine. We are very sad you did not say anything about your bad experience with us at that time. At least, we could have try to do something, as we usually do in such a case. Be sure we are really concerned and sorry when one guest's stay does not correspond to his expectations. We hope the rest of your stay in Polynesia was fine, if not during your stay in Tikehau. It is a very nice hotel, in a paradise location. you can see sharks, beautiful fishes under the bungalows. Restaurant a little pricy and no Internet connection in the rooms.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your kind message, and sorry for our late answer. We are very happy to read your stay met your expectations. For information, internet is available only at the desk, restaurant and bar, not in the rooms (High speed internet does not exist in this part of the world, and we only have 1 telephone line, so the signal would be too weak, if shared between 37 rooms). These days it works pretty ok, at least to read emails, send a picture or connecting on social networks. We hope to have the pleasure to welcome you back in our paradise. Best regards
