A lovely big room. Clean and comfortable and friendly staff. It has a great location - very short walk to the train station. I would stay here again.

My stay at Hotel Besso was a wonderful experience. The employees were gracious, thoughtful, and hard workers. Shout out to Cristian simultaneously working the front desk, making sure breakfast was in order every morning, and answering any question that guests had (in 4 different languages) The hotel is quiet, clean, and in a convenient location in front of a bus stop and 5 minute walking distance from train station. There is also a good pizza restaurant around the corner. A full breakfast (muesli, cereal, cured meats, croissant, fruit) costs 10 CHF per person and is filling, delicious, and a valuable meal option considering the high cost of living Switzerland is known for. I highly recommend this hotel and would only stay here if I ever return to Lugano.

We paid double for the room because we were four people. The room was a bit bigger but they just squeeze 4 full sizes bed. The bathroom was nice, but just a tub with no curtains so if you don't want to water the entire bathroom you need to squat. It says there is parking but it is really limited and they said because we booked through expedia we had top pay for it. The location is great and close to downtown. Overall it is ok for one night

Was noisy. No ice. Refusing to turn the AC on in breakfast area even it was very hot. Lomited choices for buffet breakfast. Only one electric plug in the room. Pillows are very low. Dirty bathrooms

We only stayed one night on a trip to bring my daughter to college. It was very clean. Rooms were nice. Good choice for the price. It was close to the train station which was very helpful.

we just slept the night and left by 7am. No AC in the room, we had to sleep with the windows open in a thunderstorm night. Location was very convenient and close enough to the train station.

Just the price included
Not a great hotel but certainly one of the more cheaper ones there. So if you a cheap place, give it try, but it is a bit disappointing... with breakfast included, you are about the price of a better hotel.

My room was covered in cleaning perfume, so I needed to open the windows for a while. Definitely a smoker friendly place, but my room had no smell of it from the perfume thing. Great view, great price, working wifi.

A lot Better Than Expected
I used to live in Lugano and have walked by this hotel many times. It is not super cute or particularily nice looking from the outside so i didn't expect too much. The lobby is what I expected, very simple and made for utility not aesthetics. However, the room was so much cuter and comfortable than I expected. The views were incredible, and everything was super clean and comfortable. Loved staying there! Would definitely stay again.

Convenient to train station.
The hotel staff was wonderful in helping us find the bus connection to Varenna. A nice breakfast was offered for a small charge. This hotel is very close and behind the train station so don't make the mistake of the funicular bus that goes down the hill! There is an elevator but no AC, however a fan in the room and nice big windows were fine in June. Overall, a very comfortable stay.

Clean room. Basic amenities. The shower did not have a door, just a curtain. The hotel is on a busy street, but they do have parking on the side of the bldg (they have to buzz you in to park and take the car out). I appreciated the hotel letting me check in early and my flight arrived at 8:30 am.

Will not return.
It was a terrible stay. Staff was not too friendly and you can hear the elevators going up and down all night. All rooms are smoking and no breakfast included. When getting to our room, the hall way was unlit and we had to use a flashlight. Very pricy for what you get.

Very convenient to train station, MXP airport bus
Very nice hotel in close proximity to the train station, as well as the bus to/from Milan Malpensa Airport. We missed having a shower in the bathroom. The continental breakfast was sufficient and beautifully served.

The staff is very friendly. The room was clean and it had everything I needed, wireless, a clean big bathroom, air conditioner, flat screen TV and a comfortable bed (actually I was given a large three-bed-room although I originally asked for a single). It had a big balcony overlooking the busy street going to town center, a distant half view of the lake. It is an old building but taken very good care of. Even if they might still delay a total interior renivation; they certainly need to have new window fences and sealings to block the occasional street noise; it was the only downside I could see. I recommend this hotel to families and business travelers alike; if you nightsleep is carefree.

Not what I expected
Room had a bad odour,decore was like it came from a second hand shop. It was more like a cheap back pakers accomodation than a hotel we paid alot of money for. We booked a double room which was 2 single beds placed together with wafer thin pillows.The hotel is a 10 min walk up hill from the train station so its not suitable for disabled or elderly folk. Lugano is a beautiful place to visit but i would not stay here again.No breakfast included in expensive price but they can provide it at a cost in the dinning room. The hotel reception asked you to leave your room key on a shelf with all the room numbers with hooks on it. For security reasons we asked why, as we thought any one could then enter your room as they knew you where out, the reply was incase we lose the key!!!! Its thier policy that everyone leaves thier room key on the shelf. We found this strange as anyone could come and get the key...it wasnt safe. We took our valuable out with us. The front entry has steps which made it difficult with suitcases as well as a bus stop directly at the front of the enrty which teens would sit on the steps waiting for thier bus. Wifi was slow. If you want to go into town its all down hill, but coming back is uphill. There is a cable car in Lugano that will bring you up to the train station again and then you walk up hill from there.

Cheap hotel at an expensive price
Looks like a convenient location, but it really is the wrong side of the tracks, with the town proper being 10 mins away downhill. The hotel and decor is very dated - for about 120 quid a night, it's not unreasonable to expect a lot better.
