“EXCELENT”
IMPECABLE
“Oasis of Luxury”
The Movenpick is a beautiful, modern hotel that was a joy to return to after a day of wandering through the old city! The staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. The pool was so nice after a hot day in the city; very refreshing and relaxing. The head bartender was awesome, a total gentleman! I would absolutely stay there again if ever we find ourselves in Tangiers!
“Attractive hotel but a bit away from town”
This is an attractive hotel, particularly the pool area, but is quite away from town meaning you are dependant on an unreliable taxi service. Maintenance is a bit flakey a few damaged items in our room were not repaired during our stay despite being reported the minute we arrived. Cost of food and drink is very high (the price of a 5 star tag!!) Staff very helpful - helped us organise a couple of sightseeing trips. Would stay again but dine outside hotel
“Beautiful pool, right on the beach, kind of deserted though...”
The Movenpick is overall a nice hotel right on the beach, but it has a weird vibe. The rooms, while large and having at least partial beach views (I think most of them do, anyway) are furnished with quirky wicker furniture shaped like pyramids- ? Not sure what that's all about, but it's different to say the least. The staff is not plentiful (several stops at the front desk were fruitless, as no one was there) and seemed somewhat non-plussed to have to speak English (I think they are used to French speakers, and maybe Spanish), but they tried. There's not much within walking distance of the hotel, so I ate at the restaurant there, which has a really unique "desert tent" atmosphere, but I was the only one there for the first 45 minutes after they opened (and actually the staff didn't show up for almost 20 minutes after they opened...) The lunch buffet was good, though expensive, and I didn't appreciate the flies buzzing around the food. The hotel is a good 30 minutes away from the airport, but taxis are cheap compared with Europe. If I come back to Tangier, I might stay here again.
“Would never return, would never recommend, terrible value.”
The public areas were clean and very grand. However, once you go up the elevator to your rooms, quite another story. The second floor hall carpet was filthy and encrusted with unknown substances in several areas. It was quite unbelievable. The room was tired and in need of detailing. Drapes were in disrepair. Tile flooring looked dirty and was in need of complete replacement. One good point was that the sheets were quite clean and the bed was comfortable. TV worked well. Bathroom was not the cleanest; for some reason the toilet water was brownish. Bathrobe was scratchy and old. The doormen were very nice. This hotel is so far away from the city center. Also, the hotel desk clerks were not friendly in the least. Oh yes, they gave me a crummy view and they tried to make me think I had only booked for one person (fortunately I had my paperwork to disprove that deception), and they tried to get me to upgrade by saying they had given me a smoking floor. Their deception was so transparent and vile. I wouldn't have given them another dime extra. I didn't eat in their hotel, nor did I frequent their bars. When I get treated poorly by hotel staff, I'm pretty sure their kitchen people must be surly too. It was too rainy and too late to make a big deal of it. If the weather had been better, I would have been out of there in a heartbeat. Made my last day in Morocco a real let down.
