“We loved our stay”
We loved our stay at Island House. The view, staff and food was excellent. We defifinetly will go back. The chairs out front were especially enjoyable. It was close to all the amenities.
“Enjoyed my visit and would stay again”
The hotel was beautiful and very close to everything we wanted to do. The only negative was that the mattress was a little uncomfortable.
“Peaceful Island Hospitality”
We spent July 4th on the Island. From the ferry, our luggage was handled and delivered to our room. The location of the hotel in relation to the downtown area was ideal! Upon arrival to the Island House Hotel, we were listed on the enrty board with Happy Anniversary for all guests to see. It was a welcoming touch to our long weekend. The front desk was helpful and friendly upon checkin. The hotel room, although very small, was clean and accommodating. The maid staff was helpful everyday and did a good job of cleaning the room with the abundance of infant stuff we had to bring over. We were also thankful that they had a pack-n-play available to use since we specifically requested it ahead of time. We had an issue at our hotel on the drive up where they didn't have one available. The indoor pool was a great resource that we took advantage of twice. The morning breakfast that was included was also a refreshing start to the day with several juice selections, assorted breads, pastries, fruits, and cereals, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits, and GREAT waffles and french toast. The front porch was beautiful and a great relaxing time. Although we didn't get to partake, the nightly smores by the fire was a nice option. Overall we had a great time as a family on the island and the Island House was an excellent hotel. Our only complaint was the size of the traditional rooms, but at the same time, we understand it's a historic hotel.
“Very cozy and quaint!”
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Island House. It is centrally located between town and Mission Point. Bicycles are just out the front door along with adirondack chairs to watch the world go by. Wrap-around porch with rocking chairs was great too. Restaurant served wonderul food and server staff were very attentive.
“Great Stay!”
Very friendly hotel. Waitstaff was extraordinary! Rooms were quaint with period stylings. Loved the stay!
“Room change - no problem!”
The Island House Hotel is historic and just a couple blocks from "main street" Mackinac Island. At our request we had a Lake Michigan view room. The Victorian room was small but adequate, very clean and brightly decorated in yellows. The rate included buffet breakfast was one of the best we have had at a hotel. Since there are no cars on the island, the location to the main street, restaurants and horse drawn carriages or bicycle rentals was just right with enough distance from the hussle of the shops, pubs and restaurants. Good place to stay.
“Wonderful Hotel FREE Breakfast”
My room was excellent. A special bonus was the "included" breakfast buffet that included hot and cold entries. What I did find ironic was the request to save water by reusing the towels, yet the toilet tanks are the huge 5 gallon per flush variety. The hotel is nicely located above the marina and enough away from downtown so as not to deal with the influx of the daily visitors. Also, since horses are the main means of non-human-powered transportation it is nice not to be too close to the smell of horse urine and excrement that permeates downtown. The evenings are delightful around the stove pot fires making 'smores witht he cool breeze blowing up the hill.
“Will return next year”
A great place to stay
“Excellent Mackinac Island Choice”
Great hotel, phenomenal location, and reasonable rates. We booked a last minute vacation to the island (less than a week) over Memorial Day. This was one of the few hotels left, but previous posts left generally good reviews. We were extremely satisfied when we got there. We arrived at 10:30am -ish and though check in wasn't until later in the day, they were happy to store our luggage until our room was ready, allowing us to enjoy a full day at the Island. When we checked out, they also kept our bags and took them to the dock for us so that we could enjoy that full day as well. The rooms were small and dated, but it kept with the ambiance of the hotel. Yes, the walls are thin, but the only time we noticed it was during normal waking hours (after 9am and before 9pm). It is located right across from the Marina, on the other site of Father Marquette park. No noise from downtown filters down and the sitting area out front is very inviting, relaxing, and perfect for enjoying some wine with a good book. Did eat at the Ice House, behind hotel and that was fine. Didn't try 1852, but menu sounded good. Also, pool and hot tub are nice conveniences if that is what you are interested in, though we didn't utilize them. Overall, definitely a hotel to try. I haven't tried others to compare it to, but we would definitely stay there again.
