“old charm”
We were lucky to have booked early. We decided to extend our stay in Stockholm. For some reason the end of August and the beginning of September every hotel we called - and we called over thirty - was booked. Prices are high in Sweden. But the city is one of the most beautiful in the world - AND - the Stallmastaregarden Hotel Is a gem. It is the oldest Inn in the city and sits on a large lake on the royal estate. The staff were friendly and multilingual. There was a wide selection of fruit, bread, juice, coffee, tea, meats and cheeses for breakfast and included in the price of the room. Lunch and dinner were excellent. We traveled to five cities in Sweden and of all the hotels this was our favorite. One caution. Duck ... as you go in. They were shorter then. The building is over three hundred years old - and while the bathrooms and conveniences are all modern the management seems to strive to keep the feel of the original - right to the wild bunnies in the gardens .
“An amazing experience”
This hotel is an old manor house situated just outside Stockholm proper. The restaurant and terrace face onto a lake and huge city park. The interior is very tastefully done with a mixture of antique and Swedish modern. Our room was a duplex. The stairs going up to the bedroom were very steep, which might pose a problem for some people. Otherwise, it was very nice. No air conditioning, but a fan was provided. We just opened our windows. The one problem is that there is major road construction going on the street side of the hotel. You don't want a room facing out to it. We faced out onto a beautiful courtyard. The breakfast buffet is incredible with homemade breads and pastries, yogurts, cereals, eggs, homemade herring, cheese, reindeer, jams, cold vegetables, etc. The restaurant is top class but expensive (then again, all restaurants in Stockholm are expensive). Even though this hotel is located just outside of town, you can walk two minutes to a bus stop and go directly to all the main areas like Old Town. It's very, very easy access to the city center and worth it to be in such an idyllic setting. Some of the staff were not knowledgeable about bus routes, but otherwise they were very helpful and extremely nice. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
“Superb hotel.”
One of the most enjoyable hotels I've ever stayed in. Rooms are modern, ample in size, well furnished. Breakfasts, included, are a very enjoyable experience, great food in a beautiful dining area. Staff are extremely nice.
“Would definitly return”
A beautiful hotel ovelooking a lake within easy driving/taxi distance from the main city area. The only downside right now is a major road construction surrounding the hotel making the access a little confusing. There was no noise from the work going on so it was really not an issue. The restaurant was extremely expensive so we took a taxi into the main town where there are more choices. The breakfast was included in the price and was very enjoyable, no complaints at all. We would return there if we were in Stockholm again.
“Great Location”
We stayed here in November for 9 nights. We had the two level room which had a large bath downstairs and a half bath ensuite upstairs. Good bed. A very quiet hotel for the most part, except they are constructing a road way nearby and go 24 hours a day. Okay as long as the windows were closed. Even though this is a hike from downtown we took the subway with a stop 10 minutes away in a good neighborhood and got to where we wanted to go with no problems. Used the Stockholm card for transportation and museums and it paid for itself in a day and was convienient to use, highly reccomend it. The restaurant at this hotel here is first class, though expensive. We got the Swedish sampler the first night, lots of herring, but all made fresh and on site and was a real treat. On the way to the subway station. There was a good greek place,a little slow on service but the food was good. We mostly ate downtown or in Gamlastan. Downtown there is a great restaurant called Zinc, not far from NK. Recommend ordering the slow food when ever you can. The staff at this hotel were good, they took care of us with special service as we were there so long. Some times the front desk staff could be a little less than helpful, but most were very accomodating and excited to help us find our way and all were polite. The park setting is great for walking..
