“Enchanting Room”

We stayed 3 nights and loved it! I booked a room with a view and it was absolutely enchanting to look out over the water through our open window. This is a lovely hotel with old world charm but at a reasonable price. Walking distance to the old city and easy walk to many restaurants. We've stayed in many European hotels over the years and this rated among the best!

“Great place to stay in Stockholm”

We had a wonderful stay at the Radisson Blue Strand. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and tastefully decorated with a lovely waterfront view. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was bountiful and tasty and the service at both breakfast and dinner was great. The location of the hotel is perfect--centrally located within easy walking distance to many sites. We would return here and highly recommend this hotel to others.

In the summer, mid-June to mid-August.

VASA museum and ship. The city by water on a Canal tour.

“Great location with old fashioned charm”

Staff are most helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. It is a superb location for exploring Stockholm on foot. Buffet breakfasts are excellent and set you up for a day's sightseeing. The hotel is within easy walking distance of many restaurants. The only negative is that the hotel is in need of an upgrade - e.g.,a splash of paint here, refinishing the wooden floors there, upgrading the elevators. Having said that, the hotel had an old fashioned charm that modern, plastic hotels lack.

“Beautiful property”

The Rad Blu Strand is a beautiful property ideally situated near most sites. The front desk staff were very welcoming but apologized that we had to wait while the room was made available. As we waited for less than five minutes we were offered drinks. When we entered the room we realized that we had been given an upgrade to a suite with large windows that fully opened to reveal a beautiful harborfront view. Our only complaint is minor with the small glass partition in the shower that is intended to function as a splash guard yet does little to prevent water from soaking the floor even when the handheld showerhead is used - a potentially dangerous situation when exiting the shower. Every staff member we encountered during our stay greeted us with a smile and answered our questions and requests in a professional and friendly manner. This will be our hotel of choice when in Stockholm.

“Great location but somewhat noisy”

This hotel is in walking distance of all the great sights. We were however a bit surprised that the reception is located in the same room as the dinning room and the bar ! Also, we could hear music in our room at night coming from nearby boats and bars, even if we were there during weak days.

Hotel is right on the water, convenient for Gamla Stan and Wasa as well as boat tours. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

“not so much”

This property did measure up to 5 star rating. The rooms were fine, probably somewhere between 2 and 3 stars, but to give this the same rating as other premium Stockholm hotels like Grand Hotel is just wrong.

“Excellent service but rooms weren't very clean”

The rooms were very small but beds were comfortable. The staff is excellent and they have a dining room (although expensive) which is excellent. The location is perfect and close to everything, museums, restaurants and public transportation. The floor of our room was dirty and they didn't seem to every dust the rooms. That was our only complaint. Sweden is expensive and this hotel was sort of mid range but the location and views and service was worth our money. It also happened to be very hot outside and the air conditioning was a welcome relief.

“Great Location but Slow Service”

We waited in line almost 30 minutes to check in. There was only one guest ahead of us in line, and he seemed to be having some sort of dispute over his itemized charges. It was almost midnight, we had a 6-year-old almost falling over on the luggage, and the one gentleman behind the desk didn't seem to make any effort to request additional help at the desk, speed the other guest along, or request that he review the charges while he assisted us. Once we got to the desk, check in was very quick. We had booked a room for 2 adults and one child. There was one bed in the room, and the bed was not large enough for 3 people. It seems like they should have inquired about additional accomodation when they saw we were a party of 3, but no matter. We called down to request a cot and after an hour or so, we finally had enough horizontal space for everyone to sleep.

Getting around

The public transportation in Stockholm is fantastic. The subway, busses and boats get you around the city in no time. They also have communal bikes you can rent. Pick one up at a convenient station, drop it off at another. Wander around a bit and pick up another bike closest to where ever you happen to be. Incredibly efficient. Taxis are expensive. If you want to take advantage of the discounted rate for airport transportation, make sure to call ahead. The discount only applies if you reserve your taxi in advance.

Family-friendly activities

Vasa Museum - viking boat and some skeletons. What's not to love? Skansen - part museum, part zoo, part reinactment village - don't miss the Moose and Reindeer! Water Taxis Free Ping Pong tables at the mall
