“Great Place to stay!”

Wonderful Hotel. Clean & comfortable. Incredible breakfast included. Good bed. Very helpful front desk service. Nice,quiet and safe area. Close to subway and buses. Nils was a particularly helpful at the front desk with figuring out how to get tickets to the Arlanda Airport Express Train etc.

Area recommendations
Old Town is a must see. Sodermalm part of town is lively and folksy. Ostermalm where this hotel is at is upper class and sophisticated, solemn and quiet. Great pubs/restaurants in the area are: Tudor Arms and St. Andrew's. Ostermalmstorg area is beatufiul and has some good restaurants too. Walk down to the water to Strandvagen for a nice stroll by the water and see the view of the Old Town. Either walk to the city or out to the park area of Djurgarden with the magnificent Wasa war ship museum (17th century massive war ship restored), Skansen Zoo and Grona Lund Amusement Park. Boats take you from Grona Lund over to the Old Town for about 40 crowns (about USD 6 currently in 2010). A nice thing to do is to also at Djurgarden to go up in the Kaknastornet - a tower that is the tallest building in Scandinavia with a great view of the city.
When to go
Summer time to see the city at its best with boats on the many waterways and the sun staying up until 11 pm and it never really gets dark. The city has less traffic during July since the people who live in the city take their vacation and leave Stockholm at that time. So there is less combustion and a more relaxed tempo to the city during the summer months. Christmas time is beautiful with all the christmas lights. I went in Feburary when there was a lot of snow once and found it really neat since hotel prices were low it seemed and it was beautiful with all the snow. Exotic.

“Excellent hotel in the quiet district”

Excellent hotel in the elite district of Stockholm, 15 min walk from the city center, 2 min walk from the Karlaplan T-banna subway station. Complimentary wi-fi.

“A definite "safe" pick”

Our last minute decision to go to Stockholm for New Years (from Helsinki) did not leave us with many hotel options, particularly for 2 adults and 2 small kids but Karlaplan came through and did not disappoint. Nothing fancy and no bar to relax but it was fine for us and very fairly priced all things considered.

Area recommendations
Gamla Stan (old town) and Djurgarden (Junibacken for the little ones (it was great!), Vasa museum and Aquarium)
