“good hotel for a stay in Stockholm”
After reading some other reviews I was a little nervous about this hotel. However, I had a very pleasant experience. I arrived at the hotel at 12:30 and asked to leave my suitcase since it was before check-in time. Since my room was ready, I was allowed to check-in early! That was very convenient. Every staff member I met was very pleasant, especially the gentlement who ran the breakfast buffet. Breakfast was plain fare, yogurt, cold meats and cheeses with rolls and jelly, but it was all quite good. The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the nearest metro stop (Medborgarplatsen). The neighborhood appeared somewhat working class, so as solo female traveler I made it a point to be in before dark, but I never felt unsafe walking to the hotel alone. I booked a standard double room and there was plenty of space. The bathroom looked newly renovated and was also good size. I was out all day and the room was a bit hot when I got in at night (it was warm in Stockholm that weekend, not the hotel's fault), but opening the window quickly cooled the room down and the hotel's air system kept the room cool throughout the night so I could shut the window. The room was quiet and provided a good night's sleep. The TV got only about four channels, but 3 of them were in English (two of them subtitled in Swedish). If you need a place to stay at night while exploring Stockholm during the day, the Hotel Alexandra is a good place to do it from.
“Never again!”
Usually, before reserving a hotel for vacation, I try to read other travelers' reviews to get help. I hope this helps your decision. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!! While the location was nice in the center of Sodermalm and within walking distance to most attractions in Stockholm, it did not outweigh how much this hotel sucked! The front desk staff was very rude and abrupt with us every time we asked for any type of assistance (so much that we started asking complete strangers on the street for advice...they were much nicer). When we explained that the mini-frig in the room was broken, the hotel staff's response was "Yes, all of them are broken!". Of course they did not have an ice machine to use, but we could "buy" some from their kitchen. The most frustrating thing though, was their stingyness of linens. When we entered the room, there were two very small towels on the bed. Those were the only towels in the room. No bath mat, no hand towels, no wash cloths, nothing. This wouldn't have been such a big issue for me except that when you have a stand alone bath tub with a shower curtain that does not wrap completely around, the floor turns into a flood zone when you take a shower. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the room, and hotel. I highly recommend staying at another hotel in the same area.
“Ok if you just need a place to sleep”
If you travel alone and just need a place to sleep and plan to spend all day out exploring the city then this is perfectly fine since the price was not high. Even if you travel alone you should get a room for 2 people since the 1 person room is so small that you can't even open your suitcase or turn around without hitting the wall. The great thing is that the hotel is in the heart of Sodermalm which is a fun area of town if you want to go out and party and find cool restaurants. It is on a back street that is not attractive looking and kind of boring but perfectly safe and just 2 blocks from the main drag about. There is one guy in the reception that makes Mr. Fawlty from Fawlty Towers seem like an expert in customer service in comparison. He act like he has contempt for the guests instead of welcoming them open heartedly. And there was a very rude woman with Finish background that wouldn't even lend me the phone to make a free local phone call for a taxi from the reception without giving me alot of attitude. Eventually reluctantly I got to use the phone as I needed a taxi on my departure. Breakfast was ok. Pretty basic but defintely ok. I would prefer to stay somewhere else next time since I think it is worth it to spend a bit more and get a more uplifting and comfortable stay.
“Budget Hotel in Södermalm Area”
If you will not stay at the hotel very long and only you need is a bed to sleep and shower this hotel could be an excellent choice for you. Otherwise look another one in Norrmalm area. Breakfast is fine and free internet is a plus. 6-10 minutes walk to Mariatorget or Medborgarplatsen T-Bana.
“a good option. customers should be treated better!”
didn't like attitudes of a guy from the reception. he should either avoid talking to customers at all, change his attitudes or maybe find another job. besides this, was a good stay.
“good value hotel”
Alexandra Hotel is about 2 blocks from metro, very quiet, and serves an excellent breakfast (included in the price).
