Overnight stay before all day meeting

Posted 28-Jul-2015
Pros: Location
Cons: See above
First room on inner courtyard and quite noisy. Ironing board would not stay up. Received a much quieter room. The air was quite stale and the AC did not work very well. Overall the whole place needs a good cleaning and some reno work.

Horrible guest service.

Posted 27-Jul-2015
Pros: The lady who was working in the breakfast area in the morning! I wish we would have gotten her name. Thank you for helping us and our small children.
Cons: Customer service!!!
Location: Location was close to Como which was why we chose to stay there. No restaurant in the hotel and only one within walking distance.
Extremely disappointed in the customer service and friendliness of the staff. First, we were given a room completely different from the one I booked and paid for on Expedia. The staff member didn't offer much an apology and simply stated that they were full so their was nothing she could do. Second, we were woke at 12:30 am by a staff member pounding on our door. He wanted to know who was in the room, what our names were and who checked us into the hotel. When my husband attempted to find out what the issue was he was told, "Don't worry it's no big deal." Excuse me but you found it necessary to pound on our door in the middle of the night, wake up us and our three young children and now you say, "It's no big deal." Very disrespectful and uncalled for.

No A/C in rooms

Posted 20-Jul-2015
Pros: Location and clean
Cons: Their customer service and a better way to assist visitors
Location: Attended car show in St Paul
Called twice about no A/C in our room and was told it was controlled by a computer at front desk. Never got any cooler. Had to buy to box fans for remaining time there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice hotel close to MN State Fairgrounds & U of M

Posted 29-Jun-2015
Pros: location, using an old building in a new way
Cons: heat and air control, coffee
Location: University of MN St Paul campus and State of MN Fairgrounds are very close by. Not far from downtown Minneapolis.
This is a quaint and interesting hotel built inside an old rail station with many beams and original features. The rooms are comfortable and updated, on par with what you expect of a nicer hotel, but of the four of our party staying there, two had stuffy rooms and two had chilly rooms, all were unaffected by adjusting the thermostat. There is a nice pool and spa and lounge area. The breakfast serving area is made in what looks like an old ticket booth so is a little cramped when guests are trying to move through the line, but the food was fine for continental breakfast and included hot scrambled eggs and sausage. The coffee could have been better and the temperature would have been an issue if we had spent much time in our rooms, but overall a very nice hotel. The staff were awesome, which made everything better.

Average for the city

Posted 27-Jun-2015
The room had not been fully cleaned upon check-in which was in the late evening. Trash from the previous user was still in the trash can. The room temp could not be controlled and continued blowing cold air despite adjusting. It was too cold to enter following swimming. Ketchup or some other substance was on the sheer window curtains. Yuck! Room was damp (all towels, bedding, etc.). Staff credited me $10 for my dog considering the room was not up to par. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Won't stay again

Posted 25-Jun-2015
Pros: The bed and shower pressure was great. The only things good.
Cons: Cleanliness
Location: Gabe restaurant walking 5 blocks away was literally the only thing around but was excellent food.
When I first went into my room someone had taken a crap in the toilet. After the shock wore off I flushed and it plugged the toilet up to overflowing the rim. After walking out of the room to complain there was a strong odor of someone smoking pot which I was told it was a 100% smoke free hotel. I wanted my money back to leave but it was a non refundable room which I will forever think twice about booking that kind of a room. Well that evening we wanted to enjoy the hot tub which was broke and there was a spider the size of a 50 cent piece in the pool. Along with hair ties, etc floating around. The girl asst manager was the only good thing as she tried her best. Will never book again...

Very nice rooms, understaffed premises

Posted 18-May-2015
Pros: Quiet room in corridor away from the pool area (loud little kids at 10 P.M.) and smell of pool chemicals. Liked suite-like layout of rooms.
Cons: See above.
Location: Did not do anything nearby. Regretted not having time to go to RR Museum next door.
Rooms fine, but unable to shut off fan attached to thermostat---could only move thermostat between 65 and 75 degrees. So it came on numerous times in the night, sometimes for only a few seconds, then off again a short time later. Check-in and check-out always busy; only one overworked person to handle it all. Breakfast understaffed, ran out of some kinds of foods, and housing it in a little hut caused crowding and delays. Expedia info about the hotel fails to take note of installation of an elevator (in early 2014).

Pros: That it had been a train repair depot at one time. Tracks in the floor!
It was a fun to take the grandchildren to stay. Good location to get to other things in the Twin Cities. Staff was very helpful. Atmosphere with the train history was great.
