“Left another hotel mid stay and moved there!”
Nice and competant people working there. Nice, clean rooms. Bar/Grill outside restaurant could have had better service--island slow. Would stay again.
“Great place to stay”
Sonesta Maho Beach Resort (SMBR) is clean, comfortable, & friendly. On arrival at the airport, it's a few minutes away, including picking up (or returning) a rental car. Rent a car. You can bargain it down from over $300 a week to about 200 just by asking. Under- hotel parking is $5/day. Drive all over the island, esp to Marigot- visit Fort Louis & eat french food. The airport is a primary point of attraction to this area. If planes annoy you, go somewhere else. They skim right over the beach throughout the day, and many tourists will intentionally get "blasted" as the planes take off - esp Air France's biggest Airbus, every evening. Ask for the in-room safe key when checking in. Has a very nice pool, & quick access to a small beach. No coffee in lobby anymore; in-room coffee is poor. Breakfast at SMBR is all-or-nothing, $15. Many good dining choices & essential shopping are across the street. Sunset Beach Bar & Grill is a short walk. Some evening entertainment occurs around the complex, without detectable pattern. Beaches do not go on for miles - they're scattered around. Mullet Bay beach is easily walkable from SMBR.
“Evaluation”
“Super- Will return”
A great hotel in a beautiful location. Lots of choices for activities--poolS, beach, restaurants, casino, etc. Nexrt to airport.
“Outstanding experience”
Excellent service, cleanliness and really "want to help" employees.
“Great stay”
We recently stayed a week in the Maho Sonesta. It is a well maintained beautiful resort. We only ate at the beachfront restaurant one time as there are so many local places to eat. On this occasion the food and service was excellent. We did sample the bars at various times and found the service to be prompt. The beach and views are great and we enjoyed watching the planes take off and land at the nearby airport. The planes cease around 9 at night. Would stay at the Sonesta again in a heartbeat.
“Excellent Hotel, great location!”
You have to stay at this hotel.... The rooms are clean and big. But the best of all it's the location, you have many stores, restaurants, a casino, a disco, and its very near to the airport! I enjoy it very much, Hope you do too! PS. Couples: go to the ocean view pool at the back, its smaller but cleaner, more private and has a great view...
“Very impressed”
The hotel was very clean and the staff was friendly and extremely helpful.
“Would return”
Found the hotel very accomdating. Rooms clean and spacious. Felt lobby area could have been cooler - knowing front doors opening / closing a great deal. Bit warm almost to being uncomfortable.
“Fantastic Resort, Would like to go again.”
The Sonesta was definelty a great resort to stay at. The service was fantastic, the grounds were kept in great shape, the food was great, the people were friendly and very helpful. We went during the low season so the hotel was not packed. It was really nice feeling like we had the run of the resort. We were very satisifed with the service and food. The staff was great with everything. They were even great with helping us plan out our days and activities. There are quite a few activities and places to visit. One of our days there, we were able to rent an open jeep for the day in the resort lobby and travled around the whole island visiting other beaches and markets. IT was nice stepping off the resort and checking out other areas of the island. Also, if you do this trip, you really need to go with the All Inclusive package. It is defiently worth it, between the food and drinks. Also, the resort provided each of us with a $10 voucher for the Casino everynight. We went everynight to the Casino which was right across the street. One word of caution is if you go to any of the public beaches, like Mullet Beach, make sure you do not take any valuables with you and watch your bags. One guy distracted us while another took our bag but luckily another tourist saw the guy hide the bag and we were able to get it back with everything in it. Besides this one stupid event the entire trip was fantastic.
