Quite old hotel, not great facilities, no comfort,Posted 27-Jul-2014
Not great experience after having been in various luxury resorts the weeks before on other Caribbean islands.

Nice, affordable and comfortable..Posted 24-Jul-2014
Everything was perfect except the bathroom... Even though is very modern and clean there was a weird smell coming out of the bathroom.. Aside from that I give then a 10!

Simpson Bay ResortPosted 1-Jul-2014
Pros: Location, staff, beach, grocery and restaurants on the grounds, spacious rooms.
Cons: As I mentioned, it's being renovated.
Location: Bon Appetite - the best restaurant nearby. We were told that they have a new chef, and he is exquisite, per our opinion; staff is great, too.
We stayed in Marina building which is scheduled for renovation in January 2015. Although our rooms were a little outdated, we found them quite comfortable, spacious, and clean. Certainly, floor tiles needs to be renovated as well as bathroom and closet (especially, doors), but furniture is comfortable, bed is good, two ceiling fans along with air conditioner make your stay pleasant. Marina building is located next to the beach (3 mins walking distance), and it makes it even more comfortable, so we didn't pay much attention on what to be renovated. During presentation, we saw different buildings (all of them are named by local flowers) with renovated rooms, and it looks that resort is going to be outstanding pretty soon. Likely, it will affect the price, as well. The beach is not big but for us it looks perfect. We visited different beaches on the island (Mullet Beach, Baie Orientale, etc) and found that we don't have to go far to find something better. It's quite deep from one side, if you like to swim, and quite shallow on the other side which makes it perfect for kids. Staff is professional and friendly, and responds right away if you have any questions or needs. We didn't get how room cleaning is scheduled: we had our rooms cleaned daily first three days though, in rules, it's said that cleaning is provided once a week, then they cleaned rooms last two days (we stayed a week). Internet is good though it might interrupt at times (appr. once in hour) but getting back is easy

Simpson Bay ResortPosted 28-Jun-2014
Pros: Its proximity to great dining and activity.
Location: Casinos, Dining, and entertainment are all within walking distance of the resort. Water sports are excellent!
We stayed down near the waterfront in one of the older buildings. We were very close to the pool, pool bar and beachfront, so everything was quite convenient. Our one-BR suite was quite comfortable, but the staff informed us that the section where we were staying is slated to be closed for complete renovation. This resort has been purchased by an International Management Company, and they are doing a great job improving the facilities. Aqua Mania Water Sports is housed in the complex, so making charter arrangements is quite easy. The Stone Restaurant is great, and we enjoyed a wonderful meal right on the resort. The resort has several eating establishments, and the Hollywood Casino is right on the grounds. Simpson Bay is our favorite spot in St. Maartin. It is beautiful, and there are a number of very fine open-air restaurants within walking distance of your room. For us, THIS is absolutely the area to stay in while in St. Maartin. A car rental makes the French side (and all of their restaurants and beaches) very accessible. The Resort also provides bus tours to see the rest of the island, if you are not interested in driving a car.

Friendly resort with lots to doPosted 25-Jun-2014
This was my first time to St. Marteen as I was traveling alone so I wanted to stay on a resort that had every amenity readily available. This resort was perfect and then some. Staff was friendly and helpful. Shuttle service to and from my room was helpful as well. Pools were clean and beaches were steps away with a bar and food menu. Food was great. Chef Alex (I hope that was his name) made my food extra delish!! I would have liked to have more than 1 towel (they have bins full of them), but the limit was one per day which was a bummer for me. But understandable since they are a Green resort. I had the French restaurant for breakfast (cant remember the name), but the waffle was good. There are 2 ATM's that take U.S credit/debit cards. I didn't get to gamble, but the casino seemed nice. This resort offers a timeshare, so there is a presentation. I didn't see it (too young), but it was ok, especially if you aren't staying on the island long. The last thing I want to do an island is see a presentation lol. I got to paddleboard and jetski, both of which were VERY affordable. I was happy about that. Concierge can book it for you. They also gave me info on taking the ferry to Anguilla, which I did, it was amazing as well =) Overall, I had a very pleasant stay. My taxi driver Walter was very informative of the island, things to do, places to see, etc as well. I would book him for a taxi service if you are visiting the island. The resort has a gym that overlooks the ocean as well.

Cant wait to go back!Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Location, beautiful rooms, amenities
Cons: The charges that may/may not have been placed were confusing. You have to read the fine print ($75 cleaning fee if you don't wash your dishes)
Location: walk down the main road for dozens of restaurants, shopping stores, 2 dive shops, multiple night clubs... like I said I wish I stayed longer!
My first time to St. Maarten, I went for a scuba trip from a dive shop in simpson bay so I had to find somewhere close. My friends all stayed at a questionable looking hotel so I opted to stay somewhere 5 minutes up the road and I am SO glad I did! The room was EXQUISITE!! I could have lived there! It was nicer than any apartment I had ever lived in! I wish we stayed longer (stayed 3 days) but I had a full kitchen that was fully stocked with dishes and full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster.. you name it they thought of it. It was such a large resort we had pools everywhere we looked and I could walk down 5 minutes to the beach and to a grocery store. The only pain is that the resort was so big it was quite a walk from the lobby to the room and from the room to the main road, but they offered to shuttle us down any time so we called for a shuttle if we were in a hurry to get down to the road.

Honest ReviewPosted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Above average experience
Cons: One way bedroom windows.
Location: Walking distance to beach. Deli closeby. Casino on-site. Restaurants available nearby
Hotel check-in - could not find my Expedia booking. Had to phone head office in Cancun. --Resolved. However was able to check into room immediately on arrival and not at 4pm. Room clean with ocean view and close to very clean pool. Bedroom adjacent to a noisy corridor and bedroom window looks into corridor and vice-versa .Adequate kitchen and utensils.

One night in JunePosted 19-Jun-2014
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfy. Our rate thru Expedia was $78. Very good. We were only staying one night on our way to Anguilla. Toilet got plugged in the morning. Two maintenance staff members were in our room helping us figure out the ceiling fan/light. They were very gracious, very nice and helpful. As we were getting ready to leave, I went to put my shoes on and realized the bottom of my feet were hideously dirty. I don't think the floors had been cleaned in days. Yuck!!! The staff at the front desk also was very nice and helpful. Housekeeping needs work. Restaurant on site was very good. Would stay there again but would check out room closely before committing to stay in it.
