Disappointing.

Posted 23-Apr-2014
When we first walked in to main lobby of the Hotel, we were very pleased, but when we were told that our room was not on the main hotel and was taked to the last building which looked old and nothing inside was updated we were very disappointed. Room had a old musty smell, we knew at that time that nothing we can do at that point since they told us that the Hotel was full. I will never stay at this location ever. This part of the Hotel needs a major renovation. Thanks God that we only stayed one night.

Good hotel for the money

Posted 23-Apr-2014
Hotel is very close to the beach, restaurants, grocery stores and public transportation, in case you do not want to rent a car. The beach is not crowded, the accommodations are old but overall OK but do not expect much. I just was happy with the beach and sea. Staff doing their best to accommodate all reasonable requests.

Pros: Very clean, well decorated,Nice landscaping.Nice view to the sea!
Cons: We were waiting in a special Line for preregisterd persons and the clerk called the other persons in the other line without considering us.
Location: Wonderfull location on Simpson'Bay.You CAN access any of the six pools, play tennis on one of the four courts.Go shopping at a walking distance .Tours.
We love the place! The site offers activities and counsels from a concierge. Many tennis courts, pools and an extraordinary view of the Caribbean sea and mountain. The people are politesse and lovely.

Nice place close to the airport

Posted 19-Apr-2014
Pros: Close to the beach.Grocery store and liquor store on the property all within walking distance.Several resturants to choose from close by.
Location: We split our time between the beach at Maho watching planes up close and personal and just relaxing at the beach and pools at the resort.
We had a nice stay while there. Weather was perfect! We had a room at the top of the hill which was challenging to walk up coming from the beach. You should check the location of your room prior to going if you have mobility issues to make changes if needed. We are in pretty good shape and it wore us down each and every time we had to go up it. Our room view was not good, only of the rocks on the mountain across from the hotels laundry facility.

Nice room near good restaurants in town

Posted 19-Apr-2014
Pros: Locale
Cons: Ability to charge to the room at the pool; our room key didn't work
Location: There are plenty of dive operators nearby so one does not have to be on a "head" boat from the resort.
The king studio was comfortable. We did not care for the food at one of the hotel restaurants, however, the hotel is close to lots of good restaurants, most within walking distance. The resort scene is not our cup of tea where you don't leave the resort and have all your meals or entertainment on site; so, remember this when viewing our comments.

Outdated hotel, located on nice little beach

Posted 19-Apr-2014
This property is very large and spread out. My room was spacious but very outdated and in serious need of updating. Floor tiles are chipped/ stained, furniture is old/ outdated, linens are worn. Towels were changed daily, but floors were not cleaned (bathroom, etc). Common areas are similarly worn/ in need of repair. Since this is a time-share property, I would think they are renovating, but I saw no clear signs of that in the section I was in. Staff seemed more concerned with timeshare interests; since I made it clear I was not interested, I was left alone. I would choose I more modern, service-oriented hotel in the future.

Acceptable and affordable accommodations.

Posted 17-Apr-2014
Pros: Staff was very friendly and the location was near the beach (although not on the water). Most importantly, this stay was quite affordable.
Cons: The interior could be updated, the humidity and odor in the rooms needs to be corrected, and the toilet needs to be fixed.
Location: Very centrally located on the island in downtown Simpson Bay. In theory, one could stay on the resort the whole time. Why would anyone do that though?
Overall, my stay at the Simpson Bay Resort was acceptable and enjoyable. Cleaning staff came every day and tidied the room up quite well. My greatest concern was that the room was constantly humid (far more than the outside environment) and was constantly filled with a musty, sulfurous odor. One got used to the odor after a few moments but when first returning to the room it could be quite oppressive. The only other complaint is that the building I stayed in seemed to be quite old and the fixtures and amenities, while in good condition, had some wear and tear. In particular, the toilet did not like to flush immediately after use. Frequently, I would hit the button repeatedly with no response only to hear it flush 10-15 minutes later. A separate issue, two days before my departure, my room key was deactivated early. This was a quick and painless fix at the front desk but unnecessary nonetheless.
