Simpson Bay Resort

Posted 20-May-2015
Pros: Close to beach - each building has it's own pool - Staff is very helpful and pleasant - Close to public transportation if you haven't rented a car
Location: See above - Also numerous restaurants in area
We ended up staying in our 1 bedroom unit from the week before - Simpson Bay Resort has done a wonderful job of remodeling. They also have a casino on the property

Beautiful and safe place to stay

Posted 18-May-2015
Location: Walking distance from all places if u chose to leave the resort.
The rooms were beautiful condos. Not what u would expect in the islands. Staff super polite. The resort had its own village with stores and nightclubs and casino in the promise. Lots of security everywhere and very safe. Downside for us, lots of families. But there was something for everyone with at least 6 pools and a nice beach

Good Hotel/Resort with plenty to do & nice beachs.

Posted 15-May-2015
Pros: Everything but the check in and check out time because it was way too long to wait!!!
Cons: Check in and Check out is way too slow!! Over 30 mins to check in and 15 mins just to check out!!! The gym should be free to paying guests not $6..
Location: Very Good location and plenty to do!!
Very Good experience and enjoyable! Rooms were great and the pools were very good etc!!! Beaches also very good! Check in and check out really upset me because of the time it took to check in and check out!!

Clean and comfortable

Posted 10-May-2015
Pros: It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Dive operation on site is top notch. (Aqua Mania)
Cons: Don't expect people to switch rooms in the middle of their stay. Provide more washcloths in the room so guests don't have to reuse dirty ones.
Location: Location is good. Variety of restaurants nearby. Grocery stores, car/cycle rental nearby.
Nice room. Comfy bed. Pool was kind of dirty. We thought the exercise facilities were included, but that was an extra charge. They wanted us to switch rooms in the middle of our stay, but after talking with four different, somewhat nasty staff people over the course of 2 days, we finally got to a manager who was able to change that for us. once we were able to settle in and unpack, knowing we wouldn't have to repack again in a couple days, we were able to enjoy our stay a little better.

Nice resort VERY NICE ROOM

Posted 9-May-2015
Pros: Had everything you need.
Location: Many restaurants close by. You do need to take a taxi or rent a car to get to the main shopping towns of Margot or Phillipsburg. Taxi's are expensive!
Got our room on a great sale price deal. The room was very nice!!!! We had a one bedroom with kitchen. It had everything you would need for your stay. Like a condo really. It was clean. It was quiet. It was safe. Had airconditioning. Had wifi. The beach and pools were just ok. Not bad, not great. Had restaurants on the grounds and many more within walking distance. Hotel staff was good. Let us check out a little late which was nice for catching our plane. Their weekday checkout is at a nice 12noon time so you can actually enjoy the morning without having to rush out. I would stay here again, although the island of St. Maartin is really not that great. You do need to take a taxi to get to any of the main shopping areas. They are far. Taxi's are very expensive. They charge on average $20. a direction. Or you could rent a car but driving here is crazy!

We luuuved the Resort !

Posted 5-May-2015
We had a 10 night stay in a studio that was renovated. Our room was very close to the parking lot but the stairs to go to our studio was killing our knees. However, I should say that the view from our balcony was very nice. Room was very modern and always nicely cleaned. The only two minor issues we had was the noise that came from the suite above when they would move the furnitures.. The other issue was that some times we would hear a "bubbling" noise in the bathroom coming from the toilette, sink and the shower. ither We loved the resort, it's near to many restaurants, cafes and it also has a 24/7 burker king and a supermarket 3-5 minutes walk from the hotel. Other positive thing is that the hotel is very close to the airport, about 5 minutes drive. we would definitely stay again at this resort .

Two weeks stay at Simpson Bay

Posted 5-May-2015
Pros: Beaches, comfortable room
Cons: Service level is below par. Hotel needs to be refurbished, a pity when the surroundings is that lovely.
Location: Many activities near by, boat trips and so on. A rental car is to recomend to see the many different beaches (Mullet Bay lovely!)
Our initial response was that the condition of the room was very good and the surroundings were lovely with some great beaches at the resort. Our first negative response were that the floors were dirty which we didn't like, we had to clean them ourselves. Some parts of the resort was a bit run down and need to be refurbished. For instance some of the pools and pool areas has seen better times. We had a problem when we were going to do our laundry. Three of the four machines didn't work and it took our purchased tokens. When we called the reception to get help and some new tokens for a different laundry room they refused to help us and gave us a real bad attitude. They said that they could send a maintenance guy and we waited for a long time and no one showed up. We tried to get hold of the general manager to solve this issue but he didn't return our phone calls even though we tried to get hold on him for several days. We loved our stay at "The friendly Island" St Martin but the hotel was below par.

Timeshare resort

Posted 5-May-2015
Pros: Room was furnished as a timeshare would be.
Cons: The resort is old, but refurbished. Narrow streets with limited parking.
Location: Food was available from small, pricey and limited selection convenience store. There are a couple of restaurants which open late in the day.
Resort is set on mountainside. My room was highest point of hotel, but didn't have ocean view. Very steep, tiring climb for myself at 63 y.o. Walking to facilities outside of complex is impossible. You will need to rent a vehicle or walk about a mile each way. The resort is only convenient to itself.
