“Beautiful Setting”
This is a beautiful and grand hotel that although is in need of some repair visitors must take into account it is almost 100 years old. We travelled with a one year old and the hotel was extremely accomodating to our baby and overall the service was excellent. The town is quaint and charming and any visitor would enjoy the shops and scenery. My only complaint would be because we were on the forth floor in July it was hot despite our AC (which many rooms do not have). Despite this, I would certainly recommend it!
“Highy recomended BUT”
Everything was lovely for a Thanksgiving Wedding and weekend. The only complaint was we were given wrong directions to wedding chapel by not 1,not 2,but 3 different staff members and consequently missed the wedding ceremony
“A nice stay ....”
The Algonquin is a beautiful old hotel. The main building has very nice rooms but really needs some work. Peeling paint in bathroom ceilings etc. Nothing that appears serious but with the prices charged it should be immaculately kept. The newer Prince of Wales wing is also very nice, more modern since it's only 20 years old, and more comfortable. As of Dec. 31st Fairmont will no longer run this hotel. Since it's a provincial property let's hope that the province does some serios updating of the property. It's just too beautiful to let it go!! I love staying here and will come back again and again. It is truly a spectacular hotel that needs some TLC. By all means go!!
“Food Quality”
We found the quality of the food had deteroriated since our last visit
“Good experience!”
Our Service dog has been very well welcome. It was our first trip with him. I'd recommand this hotel.
“Wonderful old world hotel reminiscent of the 1920's family hotels.”
The hotel staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent. The pool was under repair but that didn't matter this summer with the rain and cool temperatures. The evening bonfire was a hit. The golf course looked great although I didn't play. They also have tennis courts and shuffleboard. Families should book the deluxe rooms in the new section as the rooms are large with a sitting area, fridge and microwave. The town of St Andrews is a short walk away with nice shops and a wharf where you can book a whale watching trip or fishing. Even though the weather was not great the hotel was warm and comfortable and we enjoyed it very much.
“Good, but not great, hotel”
Aside for our difficulties at check-in -- see above -- the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. We were surprised, however, that we had no guide to the hotel in the room: floor plans (it's very large and rambling), restaurant locations and menus, would have been very helpful. . The one meal we ate in the hotel --one breakfast -- turned out to be basically a buffet: fine and quite generous, but somehow routine. (Though you could order at the table, the staff encouraged everyone to take the buffet option.) In September the hotel seems to cater largely to Canadian business conferences. But it has a beautiful location overlooking Passamaquoddy Bay and is an easy ten-minute walk to the village and waterfront.
“rapport qualité prix”
rapport qualité prix inférieur si on se fit au chambre exigue sans air climatisé sans endroit pourplace sa valise sans prise de courant adéquat sans internet gratuit dans les chambres.
“Not too impressed”
Great hotel with a history and character. If you are looking for the latest and greatest gadgets, king size beds and a modern bathroom this is not the place for you.
“In need of updating”
The Fairmont Algonquin is in need of updating, especially if your room is in the older building. The paint was peeling in our room and the bathroom fixtures were old. We didn't see a room in the new section, but it looks very nice. Be careful when you book - our room did not have air conditioning. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.
