Reasonably priced, lovely view of the waterPosted 12-Oct-2013
Pros: Lovely location and excellent staff.
Location: Fine restaurants-try Olivers and the Italian restaurant in town(real Italian-not Olive garden).Unusual shops, no outlets. Do Eastwind sailing.

Nice,clean,very friendly staffPosted 6-Oct-2013
Pros: It was really quiet, my room overlooked the water.(just what it looked liked when I saw it on line) very clean, great breakfast.
Location: It was island but less than 10 minutes away there were lots of shops to wander through. I went on a Whale Watch, and a Sail Boat and Botanial Gardens.
This place was wonderful. It was quiet and you didn't have to far for stuff to do. Great places to eat, shopping, ect.

Peaceful retreat!Posted 24-Sep-2013
Pros: Views, views, views. Good value for the money.
Cons: Better lighting in the parking lot is needed. Better lighting on the 1st floor rooms is also needed (no overhead lighting).
Location: Located <3 miles to restaurants and shops of Boothbay Harbor. Lovely botanical garden is nearby. Beautiful scenic drive on Southport and E. Boothbay.
Rustic hotel overlooking the water. Quiet and comfortable with great breakfast selection included. Great getaway location with lots of outdoor activities - boating, whale and/or bird watching, fishing, and miniature golf to name a few.

Unfortunately, it was pouring rain when we arrived and were not able to utilize all of the facilities that were on the premises. The room was spotless. The breakfast was fair but it was the end of the season.

The Ocean Gate Resort is a few minutes away from Boothbay, a beautiful (and touristy) small town that offers shops, seafood, and a variety of short day boat trips. There are several lighthouses in the area as well. The hotel itself is secluded--it's on an island just southwest of town and you drive down a gravel/dirt road through the woods to get there. There are about 3-4 small buildings with a handful of rooms overlooking the bay. It feels a bit like summer camp atmosphere with the woods and the assortment of buildings. The room itself was nicely decorated and clean with a shared balcony. There was a free breakfast included, which had quite a bit of variety (hot options, cereal, yogurt, pastries, drinks), and while they were okay, not exactly gourmet, but the convenience and variety was good. You can borrow canoes and kayaks for free and go out for an hour or so, which we did, and saw seals! The staff is mainly comprised of college students from Europe who are working there as part of a work abroad program; they are very friendly, helpful, and interesting to speak with. This was a good choice for us for a romantic getaway, and with the free breakfast, pool and hot tub, and other free activities there, it struck us as a great place to stay if you have kids. We'll definitely stay there again.

Great ExperiencePosted 4-Sep-2013
Cons: Allow access to the Kayaks earlier in the morning.
This hotel is more like an island resort. Great location, quiet, with plenty to do like ping pong, swimming in the pool, and miniature golf. The best is the free kayaks which my family used the next morning in the cove that the hotel it located on. Highly recommend for family fun!
