"Fantastic hotel"
We love this hotel and have stayed here on quite a few different occassions. The staff are wonderful, pleasant, effecient and very professional. The rooms are well laid out and have all the comfort you would expect from a Marriott Hotel. Breakfast is excellant huge range of choice and well presented. The one complaint we have is the standard of food in the restaurant. morgans was closed when we were there so we used the smaller Zest bar and retaurant . The food was served promptly but was unappetising and lacking in flavour we found this on the previous stay as well but had another try in case it was a one of! When we stay again I would not use Zest but will certainly try out the Morgans restaurant in the hope it is better.

"A very welcoming hotel, with excellent staff"
Would definitely recommend this hotel. Prior to our stay we phoned twice, once for taxi information and once to book a table in the restaurant on our return from Chepstow Races. The staff were extremely polite, friendly and knowledgeable. We were upgraded to a king size bed room on arrival. The hotel was very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The food was good and well presented. It's an ideal place to stay if touring round and within a stone's throw of Tintern Abbey. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel, and would definitely stay there again when we are next in the area.

"A great winter retreat."
We are a couple aged 60ish. Went looking for quiet, comfort, warmth (it was early March), big fires, countryside, chill out etc etc. And we found it here. What do you get? Remoteness, perched in woods over the RIver Usk. Extensive grounds leading down to the river. A big log fire and wood burning stoves (in public rooms). Warmth (even during bitterly cold days). Great service from friendly staff. We had a 'Cottage Room' away from the main building. This was a superb room. Huge with massive bed and warm as toast. Tons of hot water but the shower was a bit lacking - very weak. But great for having a huge hot bath after a long hill walk. The one thing you need to be aware of is that the only meals available in the evening are a choice of 2 or 3 course meals at £32 or £40 a head plus drinks of course (so budget £100 total for two). Superb cooking and worth the money. But if you are staying longer than a couple of nights (we stayed 4) then eating in the hotel starts to become very expensive. So much so that we only ate in two nights (went to Crickhowell the other two). If only there was a cheaper alternative such as bar food that would be a welcome addition. But, as I said, we'll be back!

"Fantastic value for money"
From the time the check in to the time you check out the staff make you feel special. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast was top quality with plenty of variety. My only gripe with my room was the bed was too hard........ however, I do have a soft bed at home.........!!!!!
