"A great winter retreat."
We are a couple aged 60ish. Went looking for quiet, comfort, warmth (it was early March), big fires, countryside, chill out etc etc. And we found it here. What do you get? Remoteness, perched in woods over the RIver Usk. Extensive grounds leading down to the river. A big log fire and wood burning stoves (in public rooms). Warmth (even during bitterly cold days). Great service from friendly staff. We had a 'Cottage Room' away from the main building. This was a superb room. Huge with massive bed and warm as toast. Tons of hot water but the shower was a bit lacking - very weak. But great for having a huge hot bath after a long hill walk. The one thing you need to be aware of is that the only meals available in the evening are a choice of 2 or 3 course meals at £32 or £40 a head plus drinks of course (so budget £100 total for two). Superb cooking and worth the money. But if you are staying longer than a couple of nights (we stayed 4) then eating in the hotel starts to become very expensive. So much so that we only ate in two nights (went to Crickhowell the other two). If only there was a cheaper alternative such as bar food that would be a welcome addition. But, as I said, we'll be back!

"Nice hotel excellent price"
This was our second stay at the hotel we asked in advance for the same room and got it 108, lovely and clean the lovely old comfy sofa bed had gone and was replaced with a modern chair, which looked nice in the room. Only negative is no fridges in the room for me its important as my son is not well and needs constant anti biotics there is however a fridge at reception where u can store things. Lovely leisure facilities massive pool for a hotel, varied kids menu, staff really friendly could do 2ith an out door play area in their very large garden to keep the kids occupied as ours like so many were bored playing games by the bar. I would recommened this hotel every time and will be staying again.

"Lovely stay and very enjoyable weekend."
I booked this hotel quite last minute and didnt really have an expectations it was a bargain and just close enough to all the sites i wanted to see for the weekend. The hotel was lovely and the staff couldnt be more helpful! We arrive after midnight as we got stuck on the M25 so we called ahead and they said someone would wait up for us if nobody was there we could ring the doorbell but the doors were still open. The receptionist named "clarky" was incrediably helpful, he carried my suitcase upstairs and even gave his recommendation of what to see in the morning, the grounds, the spa and what time breakfast was. The room was delightful as was the hotel and the grounds. Its very central to cardiff, and barry island and has a great swimming/spa facilities and parking.
