Sooke is comprised of East Sooke and the District of Sooke, two communities that straddle the Sooke Basin. Part of a temperate rainforest, Sooke has a wealth of parks, such as Sooke Potholes Regional Park and Juan de Fuca Regional Park. For centuries, Sooke was a settlement of the Coast Salish Indians. Europeans arrived in the mid-1800s to pursue logging and fishing, still thriving industries.
