Courtyard Minneapolis Downtown

1500 Washington Ave S, Minneapolis - Map
I traveled to Minneapolis to visit a family member hospitalized at University of Minnesota Medical Center's West Bank hospitals. The hotel was just 10 blocks from the hospital -- great location. We walked 1 block to the Green Line West Bank station and took the light rail train to downtown Minneapolis. The train makes all the important stops for outside visitors. The first stop westbound is Downtown East (VIking's Stadium), second is Government Plaza (City Hall & Hennepin CountyGovernment Center), third is the Nicollet Mall (shopping, restaurants), fourth is Warehouse District (nightlife -- clubs, bars, restaurants, etc., and Target Center for Timberwolves and Lynx basket ball), and fifth is Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins and 4 blocks from the North Loop (NoLo) restaurants, lofts, etc. Eastbound toward St. Paul, the first stop is East Bank and the east bank of the university and east bank University of Minnesota Medical Center Hospital and clinics, medical school, dental school, nursing school and college of pharmacy; and the second is Stadium Village for TCF Bank Stadium (Gophers football), Williams Arena (basketball), Mariucci Area (hockey).

"Excellent Hotel"
We had a great stay at the Aloft hotel. We went to a concert at the Target Center and were shuttled there, then we chose to walk back to the hotel. It was about a 20 minute walk. The room was great, simple, contemporary, and clean. All of the staff we encountered were extremely nice.

"Our favourite hotel"
There is something magical about this hotel. Old-fashioned charm, yet as clean and as modern in its facilities as one could hope for. We love the quietness of the sleeping rooms. This was our second stay here and just being here was a highlight of our stay in Saint Paul.

"Great stay"
Everything was great except the hallway on my floor had a few roll a way beds sitting in the hallway, and it looked like someone had been eating snacks outside my door and there was debris in the carpet. I believe both of the issues were taken care of by the second night. I had booked the room to avoid long commutes to a conference. An early snow storm made this even a better reason to stay. I used the shuttle service one day. How nice to get picked up at the door and have one less worry.

I asked for their cognac selection and he pointed to bottles on the top shelf (out of my sight) and told me that was his cognac selection. Then turned away and waited on two men. I said I couldn't see what he had and he pretty much ignored me. Later our female cocktail server helped me out. Very snooty for a bartender. Other than that, staff was good.
