I had stuffed up the booking and the hotel was extremely helpful in accomodating us. The staff were fantastic even though the mistake was clearly mine. The rooms were beautiful, the village enchanting and the castle - especially the gardens - well worth a look. The quality of the food wasn't quite up to par with the rest of the hotel but otherwise very highly recommended.

Other reviewers claimed that the main road outside was very noisy. Personally, we didn't find this an issue at all and enjoyed our stay very much. The Hotel is an ancient jewel so please accept the fact that you won't have vast or modern "loft like" rooms. The Feathers doesn't claim to be anything other than what it is - steeped in history and that's why we chose it and loved it!

Stayed 5 nights whilst visiting relatives nearby. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms large and beautifully clean. Beds extrtemely conmfortable. Plenty of towles and soap provided but no extras like shampoo, body lotion, shower caps etc. Overall excellent value for money. Spent most of our time with relatives so didn't try the breakfast or nearby restaurant facilitiies.

I have always enjoyed The Lion since my first visit in 1957. It's probably better now than it was more than 50 years ago but the character and integrity remains. I had a 3rd floor room with a wonderful view of Wyle Cop and the Long Mynd on the horizon. If you need swimming pools,
Fitness centres, jacuzzis and health spas, this is not for you. Of course the staircase and floorboards creak, and the single lift is ancient and slow but it is 400 years old - well perhaps the lift is a bit younger at 299 years. Breakfasts were perfect with attentive and polite waiting staff and food quality very good. Bedroom, more than adequate and supremely comfortable four poster bed. Well equipped full size bath and shower and endless supply of teas and coffee.
I enjoyed it more than ever.
