This is the first time I think I have enjoyed the location of the hotel as much as the hotel itself while in the country. I did not know there were neighborhoods such as these in Shanghai, a place I have visited only for business related purposes. The hotel his nicely appointed, new, with one of the best staffs I've met over there. I can't talk much about the room 'cause we got upgraded to one that resembled a banquet hall for free so I didn't get to know the regular rooms but I can tell they must be as nice - albeit smaller - than the suite I got. Staff was surprisingly friendly and the area was full of restaurants and western places to go to. Oh my God this is the first time I did not feel far ested while so far from home. I am looking forward staying in the same place again; I will treat it as a 'not there yet' layover hopefully.

Everything about this hotel is fantastic. Staff are very helpful and friendly. It is excellent that this hotel caters for those who do not speak Chinese. Reception desk staff are all Chinese and English speaking which is great for translating and arranging sight seeing. The hotel has a card translating certain areas of interest to give to taxi drivers. Taxis are always in good supply, with little if any waiting time The cleanliness of this hotel is FAULTLESS, the bathrooms are so well planned, just lovely and the beds are extremely comfortable. The pool and gym area are exceptional. Breakfast selection would have to be one of the best in the world. The business centre is also very good for computer access and printing boarding passes etc.
Would definitely recommend to anyone of any age. A must stay hotel when travelling to Shanghai.

I arrived at the hotel after a long day of travel and meetings. I didnt realise that there were two parts to the Marriot, the hotel itself and the apartments. So on arrival I thought I was staying in the hotel so told the person at the door that and he kindly guided me to the correct elevators for checkin for the hotel. Upon reaching the 38th floor checkin I was advised that I had actually booked the apartment and check in was on the ground floor. A member of the hotel staff then accompanied me down and took me to the apartment check in which was not easy to find if I had gone alone. Check in was fast and I was able to secure a great internet and breakfast package at a reasonable price. The room, a studio, was excellent. It was on the 17th floor with a wonderful view over the city and Peoples Park. The room was spacious for a studio with small but fully equipped kitchen, (oven, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer) decent sized bathroom with bath and separate shower. The restaurant on the 38th floor served an excellent buffet in the evening and breakfast also proved to be great. Staff were attentive and very courteous without being in your face and it was a excellent experience.

Great hotel except for the Internet service which was very slow and we weren't notified that the pool was under construction till we got there. The concierge could be more informative. She wasn't from shanghai so she had to ask others and use the Internet to help us.

This was my first trip to Shanghai and I was very impressed with the Portman Ritz Carlton. The Hotel is outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Shanghai. If possible, upgrade to the Club Level Rooms. It is well worth it.
