solid choice
The bathroom could use a good cleaning, but the room was OK overall. A couple of times, the staff forgot to restock the mini-bar or the free waters, but it was a good hotel overall.

Front desk lady Karen Lu was very helpful as we need to call a cab to PVG . It was less than RMB$182 so I gave him $200RMB and that’s what the lady at the front desk told me. The trip was 1.30 hour from hotel to airport. Had a wonderful time at Shanghai Tower in the evening, Yu Garden the first day.

Overall ok only.
Only the location is worth to stay, with restaurants n pubs n shopping arpund . Bathroom is not too bad, renovated. The rest of the room is old n old. N tobacco smell. Most of the sttaff has problem with smiling , let alone greets.

Very good location and nearby easy access to local business, I did not expected front desk stuff requested 200yuan for deposit, luckily, I have cash in my pocket, I am just worried if somebody don't have cash in hand and you have to pay with credit card and 3% service fee will be charged if we use no-chinese credit card. Well placed but very tired.
DH is in a great part of Shanghai.Lively and can be nosey but close to good transport links and the delightful French quarter.If you are on business take care-very poor Wi-fi.

It's the cheaper option for a reason
Very cramped quarters (much smaller and less furnished than the picture they show you online). My wife and I stayed there, but halfway through our stay, the hotel staff seemed to forget there was two of us and only left towels, water, etc. for one person. Also, we're pretty sure there were bed bugs; I woke up with several bug bites that weren't there when I went to sleep.

Great location in the French Concession.
Hotel is old and not a destination if you want to be entertained inside its precinct, but its so well placed for access to transport and walking trips to well known destinations ie Huaihai Road. Understands an meets travellers needs - late checkout for example can be arranged beyond normal 12pm normal time.

Conveniently located
Conveient location to several subway lines and a couple of parks with excellent restaurants, both high-end and local. I thought it curious that they had earplugs on the bedside table, until I was woken up at midnight by a thumping noise that continued until 5:30 am. Evidently there is a nightclub on the backside of the building. Even with earplugs, the noise at night was not ideal. Front desk staff professional and friendly with good english.

Not a good hotel for business trip
Location is very very good, no complains. Rooms, no complain.....except for their internet connection which is virtually non-existent. If you're travelling for business avoid this hotel as their internet connection does not work 95% of the time except if you connect between 2am - 6am!! Their internet connection definitely needs upgrading. I'm not referring to connecting to overseas websites, I'm referring to basic internet connectivity just to even check on local Chinese websites......one just basically can't connect to the WIFI.....there's no internet connection is what my computer keeps telling me which was very very frustrating as I have to then go the cafes around to get connection and spent on drinks which I don't need.

This hotel has very good location, which is in the center of Shanghai, there are a lot of good restaurant, shopping places and public transportation. Hotel staffs are friendly and helpful, room is clean and comfort.

Close to subway
Good hotel close to subway I was able to there from airport using the subway. There restaurants and bars across the street and more with in walking distance.

I am hugely disappointed in the fact that I booked this hotel for my father in the knowledge it had a swimming pool. He is over 60 so was refused entrance to the pool. He is a retired professional underwater surveyer and pro diver. I wasted a lot of money on this. Very irritating the hotel didn't say over 60's are not allowed in the pool.

Affordable hotel in a great location
The hotel didn't have a lot of extra amenities/was pretty basic, but it was exactly what we needed and were expecting given the price point. The location near the French Concession was outstanding for the price. Lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants in the immediate area or a short walk away. Would definitely stay here again.

I was very happy with the location. Short walk from the South Shaanxi Road subway stop (in the IAPM mall). Several good restaurants in walking distance. The rooms were small but that is to be expected in a big city and for the room price. Bed was a little stiff but since I was alone the room was perfectly adequate.

Room was too small with no real closet. By door there was a one foot wide space used as "closet" and the small bathroom is awkwardly built very close to your bed. No safe box. Wifi signal poor, hardly functional. Almost no one eat in their restaurant when I walked in for dinner around 7 pm. I asked why ,they replied they are going to move to another place. The hotel has a large property but the management was so behind! For the price it is not worth! I cancelled the rest of the days and rebooked Mason hotel which is only 5 minutes away with the similar price. The hotel is even better than 3 star hotel ,very pleasant to stay.

Good pub next door
Spartan rooms. Firm beds. CNN and HBO only on TV. Clumsy shower surrounds. Only one very flimsy towel. Nice cafes nearby. Very good bread and cake shop adjacent to reception.

Great location, the hotel is old and dirty...
I stayed here because I wanted to be in the French Concession and it is the cheapest hotel in the area, and it was all that I could afford. I would not stay here again. It looks okay from the outside, but on the inside in your hotel room, it is old and worn and not so clean. I felt like I NEVER wanted my feet to touch the carpet. At best, it is like a dingy dorm room. And the wifi sucks. You have to ask the front desk for a personal router for your room. This is something they will NOT volunteer; you have to ask for it. But outside of the hotel -- it is glorious. Great restaurants right across the street, a metro station 5 minutes away, great malls on the way to the metro station. Cute coffee shops. Even a movie theater nearby. Stay here if you only need a place to rest your head at night. Do not stay here if you need to spend time in your hotel room.

Hotel in Keeping with Classic Locality
We were welcomed in a friendly manner by both Door and Reception staff and also found this manner through all of our stay. The compact size of the Hotel meant effective use of the elevators and services. The size of the room was quite small but had homely feeling. It is close to major quality shopping area with a number of International restaurants within easy walking distance.

This hotel is the annex to the main Dong Hu guess house which is undergoing major refurbishment. This annex has always been the lesser of the buildings and is in dire need of refurbishment itself. The rooms are small, rather old fashioned, lacking safety deposit boxes, and, despite having fixed Internet connection, do not have WiFi. Having said that, the hotel location is excellent, located in the old French Connection area, with many western style bars and restaurants nearby. A large swimming pool is a bonus, which rarely had more than 2 or 3 people using it.

Old but excellent location
The hotel is older than I expected. Room is relatively small, but it is not too bad comparing to the similar ones in Manhattan. I booked a non-smoking room, however, I could still smell smoke a little bit. The employees who work in the hotel are all polite. I like the cafe next to the lobby, which is nice and good for having breakfast and meeting friends.

Donghu Hotel Shanghai
Great location near Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where I was lecturing. Hotel is very comfortable and services (especially to foreign visitors) are fine. I may very well stay there again the next time.

Satisfactory stay in the heart of the FFC
Older hotel, dirty windows and carpet, room, funishings & bedding clean though. Good price for a very desirable neighborhood. Guest services has limited English abilities so if you do not speak Chinese, be prepared to keep it simple. The real plus to this hotel is being in the heart of the Former French Concession and the great cafe, Brioche Doree, in the lobby. Would stay again but dont expect too much as this is more of a local guest house than a full service hotel. Not the place for romance but a decent stay for budget concious tourist or business traveler.

The Donghu Guesthouse is a simple but good 3 star hotel (unlike its more up-market, but therefore more expensive sister Donghu Hotel) right in the best part of the former French concession, surrounded by restaurants and shops.

Excellent location to explore the city. Close to metro lines and English speaking bars and restaurants. The old hotel is being remodeled and only rooms in the annex are available. Our room smelled moldy. We could see mold on the vent and in the shower. Several drawers were nailed shut providing no space to unpack. Also we made the mistake of having our laundry done without asking the price -- there was no price list in the room nor was one offered when we gave them our laundry – and it came to $150 for two small bags of clothes. Ridiculous, and when we tried to talk to management about it, nobody could make a decision for two days, until they finally reduced the price to $65.

location is the best thing
this hotel is a little outdated but it is in a good location - one Donghu road in French Concession. there are good bars and restaurants right across the street and you are close to Huaihai Middle Road shopping and Jing'An Temple area. MTR not too far, either. Taxis are easy get on this road and cheap. I also used Uber which is more money but always got a Mercedes for some reason. The room is small and basic but clean. They give you a router for wifi if you ask otherwise it is wired internet. Staff is nice and there is a good coffee shop in lobby. Decent hotel for budget traveler.
