Yanbo, Thank you for your review of cabin #8 here at The Retreat. Yes, your cabin is rustic and shows so on the description along with no microwave in the amenities. Sorry you felt we had a lot of mosquitos during a rainy part of our Summer. You are in rural Alaska so your expectation of cell service or WiFi at the cabin is a little unrealistic even though you were advised of this ahead of time. You did spend a good portion of your time on the WiFi here at the lodge, so it must have been important to you. In the future, please review the description of your lodging choice so your expectations are met and you are happier with your stay. Thank you again for staying with us!

Hi Delores, Thank you for your review! It is a rustic cabin, you are correct. The cabin does have insulation. After further researching your noise complaint, it was determined that the critter(s) are bats. I am sorry you had to experience the noise. Thank you again for staying with us!

Serena,Thank you for your review of cabin #8. I am glad you found certain amenities on and near The Retreat to your liking. Please ensure you review what you are booking in the future as it is stated there is no cell service, no WiFi (only common areas), no microwave and we have a Keurig coffee maker (with a dispenser for your own coffee if wanted). You were notified ahead of time for the staff offsite and given specific instructions to follow if you had an emergency. You did not follow those instructions instead sending me an email and calling the business line (where I am not at). I actually have a procedure for the situation you were in and could have got you back into the cabin if you would have followed the procedures for the emergency contact. I followed up with you via phone calls to two numbers, your email, checked the entry to the cabin and left you a note on your door and personally talked to your husband. He said it was fine that you got back in. I am sorry you had such a difficult time with the offsite.

Thank you for your review Stephanie! Your reservation was made for two people, yet you had five people in your party. You are charged an extra $20.00/person/night over the initial two. If you go back and read the information on Hotels.com, it states this. This is a standard practice in the lodging industry. You never mentioned the bathtub drain and I will take a look at it. Yes, I am also glad she did not get hurt and I am glad I was able to fix it in a short amount of time. The best thing to support small businesses is to do your research and book with them so you save them money along with yourself. Thanks again for the review!

TJ, I appreciate your review of The Retreat. I am glad you found the setting beautiful. Looking back at your reservation, I was able to determine that you or someone in your party (you told me it was your spouse) made the reservation through Expedia for two people. Of course you can add the number of people in your party - this is part of your booking process. You received a confirmation from expedia for two people and you also received a confirmation from me that it was for two people. You had from December until June when you arrived to correct the reservation - you did not do so. You showed up with six people for a cabin that sleeps up to four. Your reservation was for three nights. According to your thought process with the six people that would be $31.75/person per night. I assume that you looked at the number of beds and how many it slept since you have such a large family - maybe you looked at the pictures and determined it would be fine. I am not sure but I do know that I requested you pay the appropriate amount for the number of individuals you had in your party instead of turning you away to find lodging elsewhere. It is a great reminder to all of us to ensure our details are correct when making lodging as it could have been worse.

Marjana, Based on your review it sounds like you didn't have a pleasant stay. I apologize if you felt I was not friendly at check-in. What did I do to make you feel that way? Your cabin (#7 Classic Cabin) was recently remodeled and an email was sent to you advising you of this along with the description of the beds and you were asked if that was not going to work for you to let me know. You never let me know that it wasn't going to work for you. The bunk bed is standard height and so is the ceiling. The door handle was not broken - the set screw was loose and it was fixed when you brought it to my attention. Unless you are a carpenter or contractor that knows better than my carpenter then you should have given me advice on how to fix it. The joints of the door have swollen because of the moisture in the air and it simple needs clamped and glued back together. We ask all guests to remove their shoes as it is customary in Alaska. Your cabin was never advertised as having a microwave - please look at the amenities provided. Since you were in a remodeled cabin you got an upgrade with the microwave. The beds are brand new this year and I have received many complements on them. Do you think that we don't sweep and vacuum the cabin when we clean? Overall you had a bad experience. I hope your other stays were more pleasant.
