“Female business traveller”
This is a great vintage boutique hotel in the heart of downtown. Walking distance to lots of shops and restaurants, quick cab ride to airport, hospitals. Two on-site restaurants. The pub was cozy with a great beer selection but my meal was lousy and the waitresses seemed to cater to the male customer. Next time will try the more upscale of the two. Staff was very accommodating of my request to check in early on a very cold day. Spacious room and bathroom. Not the most modern, but clean, comfortable and very convenient.
“Saskatchewan Stay”
Neat older hotel. Central to downtown. The bar downstairs had over 100 beers and was lively till 2am. Breakfast at the hotel was a great value and great quality in a nice atmosphere.
“Clean room and nice staff”
Knowing that the Senator is a very old hotel, our expectations weren't unrealistic. We knew that renovations had been done, and it looked like they had at some point, but it must've been several years ago, and for relatively cheap. The room was pretty bland and small. The bed, as previous reviewers have mentioned, was probably the best part of the room. Parking was a bit of a hassle. I believe there are only about 4 spots in the alley behind the hotel, so it doesn't take much for them to fill up. And it's probably one of the more seedy back alley's downtown. They did say they had security camera's though. We ended up parking on the street though, because it was free one day, and we were leaving early the next morning.
“Very scary hallway”
I was very excited to stay here as I love the older boutique style hotels, I acutally booked a room here three months in advance of our trip. This hotel has a lovely lobby and the room was, as expected very small but recently upgraded with tile bathroom and a great bed. There was some rather out of place details like the heavy commercial type door on the room and the steel security door at the top of the elegant main staircase. I was expecting some construction but the level was a little overboard, I don't think guests should be places on floors with hallways that have dangling wiring. There were only two small tabel lamps to provide light down our wing and nothing down the other wing I don't feel this was safe and It did make me questions the avalibitly of safety features such as fire alarms. There were also large amounts of construction debris on the floor and agaist the walls. The parking was an issue and we opted to park at our traveling companions hotel and take a taxi to ours. Had we kept the car with us we would have parked on the street rather than the back parking lot. This is not a great area of town for parking in back allies and the double parking would be an issue for leaving the next morning. Overall the staff was nice (though there was really no contact) and the bed was fabulous, perfect place to stay if the only thing you want a room for is sleeping in.
“Great base.”
The Hotel Senator is a great place to camp. Being in the middle of the downtown area, there are all the things you need nearby, resturants, Starbucks, Saskatoon's premier mall & bus depot. Plus it is walking distance of everything in the city from the University Campus to Broadway (some great curiousity shops) to every riverside park. With the addition of Winston's English Pub downstairs and Rembrants restuarant (Prairie Painters breakfast is a must), you don't have to go far for anything. Will definately use it again next time in Sask!
“Nice hotel but noisy at night”
While I was staying at the Senator they were performing renovations on the second floor so everything was torn apart outside my room. At night there is a lot of noise due to the bar. A lot of fun if you are a young person but not so much if you want to get to sleep before 4am. Also shower temperature was a bit more variable than my liking. But having said that it is a very nice hotel for the price you are paying.
