Great people, really comfy bed!!
One of the best hotel beds I've been in! Friendly and helpful staff and a good place to stay. Only fault is same as any other hotel that it's never quite as nice and new as the pictures on the Internet.

So-so experience
Staff service was fine. Cleanliness of the unit could have been much better. The unit appeared dusty and it was very small in size.

False representation of hotel
There was no shuttle available, the neighborhood was questionable and we watched a guy get mugged at the corner as we were arriving by taxi. When the front desk finally found our reservation and gave us the room key we found two shabby beds and a dirty bathroom. We asked for a different room with a king or queen, which we had originally requested and were told none available. We took our bags and jumped in the next cab. We did not spend the night and We do not recommend it.

Worst hotel, mold smell in walls, a 2 start hotel.
The worst hotel in chile I have never written a complaint but this hotel is horrible quality wise, avoid a headache parking, rooms wi-fi everything is an issue here smells bad and is deteriorating more, have to scream to get a diferent room ...a suite according to them but still was horrible just less smell... Don't waste your hard earned money the pictures in the Internet are photo shop trust me....

Nice hotel stay
Room was great! Was clean and comfortable but, the bathroom was very small. Hotel service was very good and they spoke a little english. Breakfast was great and food was very good. Neighborhood was good but it has a lot of graffiti and does not look like a desirable area, but it was a good area. Friends live in this area so I had a understanding of the area.

Nightmare
We took a room with 1 hour in advanced and got to "Hotel Gen" expecting a 4-star accommodation. - First issue: nobody from the hotel was in the lobby (yes: nobody). We were received by a friend (yes: a friend) of the person in charge of the lobby. The "friend" said us that he works for a building close to Hotel Gel. We waited 30 minutes to start our check-in - Second issue: check-in. The person in charge of the check-in was not able to find our Expedia reservation. He tried for 30 minutes and finally, let us go to our "4-Star" room. He was rude and with poor experience using a computer - Third issue: room: I should take pictures. The most terrible "4-Star" room I've ever seen. - Third issue: check-out: The next morning, a new person in charge of the lobby asked us for a credit card because they have never received a confirmation from Expedia. Yes, I paid twice. Please, avoid this place.

Nice reception but hotel need some maintenance
About 15 min walks from Central historical area, the neighbourhood didn't feel safe in the evening and can be a bit noisy. The hotel can organise airport transfer with their own taxi but it is really overpriced however, the staff at the reception were very helpful in giving me direction to the center and how to get the airport bus. The view of sunset from the rooftop terrace is absolutely magnificent but general maintenance of the building and amenities should be improve, wouldn't consider it a four star, still a comfortable and not somewhat centrally located hotel.

Hotel is near the old downtown convenient to metro
This is an older property and Santiago is pretty damp. That means that there was mold on the walls in the bathroom and the shower stall wall in the unit we occupied. However, the staff were extremely helpful and overall the property was clean. It is convenient to the metro and some of the points of interest like Sta. Lucia were within walking distance if you don't mind walking. We were there during the earthquake and saw no relevant damage (it was a 7.0 in Santiago proper). That is a good thing, of course. The after shock we experienced in the hotel later that night was pretty strong but the building rolled with it fairly well. It was fine for what we wanted - i.e. close to many of the sites. Overall, a good stay.

Very disappointed. We expected quality and service of a 4 star hotel, as mentioned on the website. It looks good on photos, but reality is not same at hotel. The first room we were given was smelling very bad. it was not possible to change. We contacted hotel.com gold members service, who did their maximum to contact the hotel, but nobody answered the phone. there was very often nobody at reception either... The bathroom are old, dirty, fongus molds in the joints,taps almost broken, old towels almost grey / yellow instead of white... not the standard of a 4 star, only of a 2 stars maximum. The check out was the most slow i had in chile...

Pro: Front desk very good with getting checked, setting up a ride to the airport, and storing our luggage until time to leave. The breakfast was very good. Comfortable beds, clean rooms. Con: Bathroom sink faucet was loose, and the floor of the shower extremely slippery. Lighting in the rooms was terrible, no light in or near the closets. Street noise interfered with sleeping. Hot tub water was cold, and not usable. Concern: The terrace on the 25th floor provided a beautiful view of the city, but the railing was only about 3ft high. We booked 2 rooms through Hotels.com for a special rate. We were expecting one of the rooms to be a queen or king, but instead it was two singles.

Excellent First Night in Santiago
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gen. We felt that the staff was super friendly and always went above and beyond (in particular they were really great with my 5-year old). The bed was super comfortable which is what we needed after traveling for over 24 hours to get to Santiago. The breakfast was delicious in the morning. We would definitely stay again.

I stay three days, and the friendly attention of the personal was outstanding. Assistant for site tours very professional and breakfast service excellent with variety of fruits and pastries and great coffee. Location is a plus that we can use the Metro to visit the important tour sites. Highly recommended..

Weird area. Hotel ok except bathroom.
This hotel was ALRIGHT for the price, and we were only staying one night so cared more about price, but I wouldn't recommend the location. Also the shower door didn't close so it was impossible to shower without water getting all over the floor and the light bulbs were out in the bathroom so we couldn't see. We did tell the front desk and a service person came, but then he left and never came back to do anything.

Motel 6 meets The W Hotel
Billed as a trendy hang out, the place has a rooftop pool that's swell - but everything below the pool level is just so-so. Nothing really eye-popping about the joint.

Nice Hotel, a bit far from the city center.
The staff was good and help us receive the room earlier. The room was clean but we didn't fount the air condition remote control. Calling to the staff did't help. The breakfast is ok. The corridors are a little bit dark (not enough light)

Pictures are very deceiving
Looked like a nice clean hotel from the pictures. Once we got there it was so badly maintained. Water damage everywhere, pool is murky water with dead flys everywhere, gym was a joke with the equipment falling apart. The only thing i could say that was good at this place was the breakfast. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't make it out to like like a 4 or even 3 star hotel

The Pictures that the Hotel Shows has nothing to do with the reality, Fortunately we only stay in Gen hotel for one night, the staff that received Us in January 12 2015 at mid night was rude and really unpleasant

Nice enough hotel, noise a potential problem
I had one good night and one nightmarish night for my 2-night stay. The room and breakfast are good about what you would expect for this price (my only very minor complaint about the room itself is not having coffee/ tea-making services in the room). The front desk was nice enough in-person, but never responded at all to my email requests (don't bother asking about the 'shuttle' service from the airport, as it costs more than a taxi, by the way!). The nightmare aspect comes from noise -- and noise that is from neighboring buildings. It's a long story, but I would STRONGLY urge anyone noise-sensitive in the slightest to stay away from this hotel during weekends or holidays, as there is no conceivable way to escape the booming all-night bass parties during those times.

A One Day Stay
I was in Santiago for two days and one night. Staying at Hotel Gen was a bargain for the price. I rented an apartment which had bedroom, bathroom, living and kitchen areas. The kitchen did not have a single appliance, pot or pan but did have a small refrigerator. I I wanted to make meals I would not have been able to. The location is not good -- it was not near to anything. But a walk of about 8 or 9 blocks took me to the historic district, shopping and restaurant areas. Hotel Gen is a good value for the money.

Hotel is a little bit old, but in good shape. Staff is wonderful. It's far from all beaches but close to downtown. It's necessary to rent a car Breakfast are great. I suggest to take this hotel.

Location was great, view from pool wonderful. Breakfast was very good as was dinner in restaurant. Bathroom could have been larger with more supplies soap, shampoo etc. carpets were dirty as were curtains, also should have had dishes, cutlery etc.

Beautiful hotel right on the ocean-every room has a window that opens to the sea. We listened to the ocean and birds all day and night. There is a "relaxation" pool that is nice and wood burning hot tub on top of the hotel --both are great. The staff is a little stuffy but they warm up if you tip!

The hotel was ok,bud the people on the from desk had no education,never look at you went you ask a question, or ask for help,only Mario and Siomara were different. went I arrive they said that were buk solid and they give me a room that the air conditioner did not work some of the lights were broken,and they give my credit card to a different hotel without my knowledge and I was charge an extra day?

Was good had a hiccup re the but was sorted quickly and without any problems.we are a group of four traveling, one of the group was not very pleasant but we found everything ok. And would recommend to anyone. It was a little bit out if tiwn but we coped with it. Three of us are returning for a night in two weeks.

2nd stay in 5 months
Great value hotel, the room I got last time round was better - but no complaints. The reason for low surrounding area score is just that there are no international restaurant chains close by and as I don't speak any Spanish, it was a little uncomfortable ordering food! Great value, would probably stay here again!

Nice Hotel in a not very nice part of town.
From the Hotel I was able to walk or bus to most of the nicest views and places of interests. i.e. Cerro sta. Lucia, La Moneda, Universidad Catolica, etc... The Hotel is nice and quiet if you ask for a room in the back...the lighting in the bathrooms needs improvement, not enough, specially in the shower and sink areas...All else very much compatible with a Holiday Inn or Ramada, ... The neighborhood is not the best, (graffiti and some garbage in the streets), but very safe and close to two Metro Stations.

Great views of the Andes.
We stayed at Hotel Gen at the start and the end of our South American tour. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful even though speaking English was a challenge for them. The room was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was the best we had in all of our South American hotels. The best part of this hotel is the view you get from the roof top pool area. Watching the sun set over Santiago and the Andes was a bonus.

Rooms are clean and adequate size. Restaurant is v good with excellent staff. Café is good and open and willing to assist with light meals. Breakfast could be better with fresh fruit but otherwise is sufficient Location is handy to city centre Staff on front desk are very helpful and ready to assist

Clean, simple and convenient
The location was centrally located in such a large city. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The kitchenette did not have any dishes(pots, pans, silverware, etc), which was unexpected and slightly inconvenient, considering we were planning on doing some cooking. The rooftop pool offers a great view of the city. Overall, Hotel Gen is a great place to stay and I wouldn't hesitate to book again if I return to Santiago
