“Great hotel”
Fun stay. A little out of the tourist area which I loved.
“Perfect for Film Buffs”
The Astoria 7 has a film theme because there is a September film festival in San Sebastian. Every room is named after a film personality and the room is decorated with images of that person and text about his or her significance. We stayed in the Antonio Banderas room, which though not in a corner had a wonderful view diagonally down the tree-lined avenue. You can borrow films from the film library though not all of them have an English sound track or subtitles. The accommodation is ultra modern with excellent bathroom lighting and good bedside reading lights. The hotel is in a residential neighborhood, a pleasant 20-minute walk to the beachfront, but there is a city bus just across the street that takes you there in about 5 minutes for 1.20 euros, and the driver makes change. The intercity and airport buses are also across the street so there is no need to hire a taxi to/from the airport. The breakfast was included in the room rate and was excellent--a wide assortment of meats, cheeses, yoghurt, and pastries. Finding a dinner meal on Sunday is always a challenge in Europe, where restaurants close for the day after the late lunch service, but the Astoria 7 has a bar that will serve tapas and wine on Sunday nights. That bar is also used in the morning by locals, so the hotel gives off a great vibe as being a neighborhood hot spot.
“Lovely hotel”
Great hotel located only about a ten/fifteen minute walk from the old town - great location, friendly staff and fun decor - breakfast was delicious buffet with very good choice. Would have been perfect if it had had a roof top pool or terrace and only think it lacked was a bar, unless we missed it! Remember to reserve parking if you need to as we forgot and was fully booked. Definitely worth a visit.
“Will definitely be back”
We had a fab time - the location is 100m from where the Bilbao coach drops off, the hotel is new & funky & the staff are lovely - excellent restaurant recommendations from them! Its a 10 - 15 minute walk to the beach there are buses if you don't want to walk. really recommend it.
“Friendly, helpful staff made the stay.”
We stayed here during a business trip to San Sebastian for 5 nights, and couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations, and in particular, the friendliness, patience, and helpfulness of the staff. Our business plans were evolving throughout the trip, requiring car rentals, bus/train transportation, restaurant reservations, etc, and the hotel staff was always ready to help us with advice and bookings, and served us with a smile each time our plans changed. The hotel is located a 15 minute walk from the city center (which we knew and expected at booking) but it's a 5-minute cab or bus ride, or a pleasant walk. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
“Great-once we found it”
San Sebastian is a big city and we had difficulty locating the hotel. Once found everything was great. Although it was a walk to the old (touristy) section and the beach we found that to be a plus not a minus as we explored other areas of the city including the immediate environs and enjoyed it all. The Hotel was very comfortable and a destination in itself if you are a movie fan. We were in the Matt Dillon room; if we were to return I would ask for Sophia Loren. We hope to go back.
“Robert de Niro's”
This hotel is themed on movies, having replaced a former cinema. Each room is themed after some famous person who has attended the town's film festival. Our room was lovely and the hotel has free wifi and has a lounge area with computers and DVDs to borrow. Very nice, the only problem is it is about 20 mins walk from the old town and I'm a fast walker.
“Brilliant Find”
We stayed for a couple of nights and went out for breakfast - couple of good places just down the road. Car parking was fantastic as there was a lift within the hotel taking you down to the car park whereas some places in San Sebastian you have to walk elsewhere which can be difficult with luggage etc. The only negative was that the Astoria is slightly out of the hub of the city but once we realised that there were 3 buses which you could catch opposite this proved no problem. We visited Bilbao and the Guggenheim on one day which is v. easy as the bus station is situated opposite the hotel - do buy your ticket first though - you cannot pay as you get on the bus! Very good value and a fun place to stay - we will definitely return.
“Deserving of the stars it inhabits.”
We stayed here for 3 nights in San Sebastian and it was the best hotel we stayed in all week in the Basque Country. The film theme was fun, (we slept with Antonio Banderas) but what made the hotel so pleasurable to stay in was the comfortable and very well sized super-king sized bed in the standard double room, the helpful and friendly reception staff with very good English, the library of classic films we watched during siesta time (although we had to translate the titles in the Spanish list - fair enough really) and the delightful cafeteria they had as a suitable alternative to the rather expensive buffet breakfast. Free internet was a bonus. We'd read that it was a bit of a walk from the centre but to be honest, this wasn't a problem unless you can't walk for 10 minutes without complaining about it! Overall, an excellent place to stay.
“Would stay there again!!!!”
The front desk staff was friendly and their English was excellent. We were impressed with the lobby and its decor. It is small, but very cute. The meeting room off the lobby is comfortable and welcoming. There are 2 computers there where you can use the internet at no cost. Nice, big, comfortable couches and a "home office" type feel. The hallways are clean, smell nice, and very modern. The rooms are even better. The hotel has a "Hollywood" theme, and we stayed in the Glenn Close room. There were pictures of her in the room and bathroom. Very creative. Clean, fresh, comfortable room. There are no irons and ironing boards in the room, so you need to ask for them. If you're not familiar with European hotel rooms, you place your room key in a holder by the door in order to turn on your lights and A/C. We would stay at Astoria again and recommend it to anyone.
