"Great place to stay"
The best thing about the Gran is the quality of staff who work there. We had had problems with passports and the staff went out of their way to help.

"nice hotel close to everything!"
The hotel was perfectly located and the staff was exceptionally nice, polite, courteous, and helpful. The room was large/spacious and clean. The staff, also, was extremely helpful in directing us to where we wanted to go, informing us as to what place we should see, how to get there, and other places we may find of interest. Our room was always kept clean. In returning to San Jose, we would not hesitate to stay here again and would gladly recommend this place to our friends.

"Lovely hotel in centre of San Jose, helpful staff"
This hotel is right in the centre of San Jose so it's really easy to get around to see all the sights in downtown. The hotel itself is very nice and the breakfast that's included in the room rate is amazing: fruits, yoghurts, juice, cheeses, hams, pastries, waffles, hot food, and they can make pancakes and omlettes fresh to order. The staff are helpful and friendly. We stayed here on 2 separate occasions and the second time we were randomly upgraded to a suite! Only downside to the rooms is that there is no fridge, but no big deal. Generally San Jose is not the safest place at night but the location of the hotel meant that there are restaurants and fast food places right next door so you don't have to go far at night. After 9pm to 10pm you should get a taxi if you are going further out.

"Great Location, Great Staff, and Kids loved pools."
Kids loved the pool and slide, great location, walked the park blocks to National Museum, Kids Museum, and the Central Market. Was impressed with San Jose, very busy, hard to drive, parking nightmare, but once I figured out that one side of city was evens the other odds, found the hotel easily and had free parking, instead of over $20 for 24 hours in neighboring lot. Owner was really nice, full of information, breakfast was lovely, great hot sauce, and we loved the rooftop terrraces and old historic feel of the rooms. They even bumped us into a bigger room for the kids. Sure, there could be a bug or two, but this is the tropics, and the rooms and grounds were clean and tidy. I would highly recommend this hotel for people with kids, my 7 and 11-year old boys loved it, and the exercise rooms is pretty good place to watch world cup too!

"My Preferred Hotel"
I had a 10 day vacation, and stayed at 4 different hotels around Costa Rica. The Radisson was by far the nicest hotel of them all, and was the 2nd least expensive. The room was amazingly big, comfortable, and great location. This is the hotel I will stay at when I return.

"Great hotel, especially for the price"
I've stayed in numerous hotels in San Jose and other parts of Costa Rica, but this was my first time staying at the Balmoral, so I didn't know what to expect. It's one of the pricier hotels I've stayed at, but in my opinion, it was well worth what I payed. My room was spacious, well-kept, clean, and very comfortable. I never had problems getting hot water or good water pressure. All of the appliances worked; even the safe was easy to use. Friendly English-speaking staff. Nice restaurant on Avenida Central with a good atmosphere and fun for people watching. The included breakfast was decent, though it's a shame it ends at 9 AM and not 10 AM. This is the best hotel I've stayed at in San Jose for the price, and I would definitely stay here again.

"Very quiet room for a Sabana location"
We had a nice room with a great view over the Sabana park. We were there to see the Costa Rica football team return from the Brazil World Cup and enjoyed the celebrations from our bird's eye vantage point. Breakfast was very ample and nice at this hotel - much better than some of the more upmarket locations we stayed at on our trip.
