“grano de oro - a golden spot in San Jose”

This is one of those old hotels that has been thoroghly updated, and they did an excellent job. We were there less than 24 hours, but the service and the quality of the location was impressed on us as soon as we entered. The restaurant at this hotel is a 5 star as well. When we arrived it was cool and raining and our rooms windows were open wide to let the breeze in. There was no air conditioning in our room, so if you need that you may want to make sure you have it in yours. I would definately go back, it is a wonderful place to stay.

“An oasis in San Jose”

We stayed at the Grano de Oro for our last night in Costa Rica. It was the best place we had stayed during our whole 3.5 weeks in the country. We had to wait 3 hours after check out time before going to the airport. The hotel staff arranged for the taxi while we relaxed in the restaurant and lobby. The restaurant is very nice. There wasn't much to see within walking distance of the hotel but it seemed that many people were using it as a base for day tours. We may have seen president Chinchilla stop by for a meeting in the hotel but we're not certain it was her. Driving in San Jose is not for the timid even with a GPS unit because the GPS doesn't know about all the one-way streets or the streets that are completely closed. It took us a while to find the hotel but we were glad we did.

“Best boutique hotel in San Jose”

This small hotel (40 rooms) surpassed my expectations by far, I truly enjoyed every single moment of our staying, the restaurant is fabulous (french cuisine), it is part of "small distinctive hotels in Costa Rica" and I now know why. I highly recommend it! Best customer service!

“A great, quaint hotel”

We stayed at Hotel Grano de Oro while in San Jose between more rural Costa Rican locations. The hotel was the perfect respite. The quaint hotel was within easy walking distance of numerous amenities including fast food (if you don't want to partake in the exquisite food offered at the onsite restaurant) and ATMs. The room was very comfortable though it was located adjacent to the restaurant making it a bit noisy at night, though we were so tired and the bed was so comfy that we didn't care.

“Absolutely Beautiful!”

This hotel is a gem - we got upgraded to a suite and had an outside garden that was lovely. The hotel IS downtown, however, and traffic is noisy (so we didn't stay long in the garden). The room is comfy and luxurious, however - what you'd expect from a higher-end hotel. Hotel restaurant had some of the best food we'd eaten in Costa Rica - very classy and busy. Go early or be sure to make reservations. We would defintely go back.

Hotel Grano de Oro is located in a rather scary neighborhood, but the service and beauty of the hotel make up for it. The beds were very comfy. The restaurant had wonderful food and great, friendly service.

The hotel was beautiful, very clean and welcoming. It was a wonderful alternative to "big box" hotels.

The Grano de Oro is a very nice hotel with an excellent staff. They were helpful in recommending sites in San Jose that we wanted to visit. The restuarant has an outstanding menu and nice wine list. We used the hotel as an overnight gateway out of Costa Rica, but it would be nice to have spent several nights.

“Elegant Hotel”

Beautiful hotel, very elegant. Wonderful dining area. Internet is spotty but that is always the case with Costa Rica's telcom service provider ICE. Really great experience.
