So I got two voicemails from Expedia before the reservation saying the hotel was closed . I called Expedia talked to an agent that then said no it’s open and the reservation is good. My son and I drove there got to the gate which was closed and there was no one to be found. No Expedia is not even refunding me . Not only should you not book this hotel but you should not book anything through Expedia .

Our experience with this Spa started on the first part of our 2 stop flight to Costa Rica with a WhatsApp message from one of the people working there letting us know that our card wasn't going threw - We had already paid threw Expedia and the charge was on our statement so I was VERY confused as to what was happening. We contacted Expedia who could not get them on the phone. The Spa wanted us to cancel threw Expedia and rebook directly with them with a card. At this point I let them know directly that Expedia was trying to get in touch with them they told me that Expedia was telling them to tell me to cancel and just pay them directly - at the same Expedia was telling me they weren't able to get a hold of anyone at the resort. The Spa also made it clear that if we didn't put a card down to hold the room it wouldn't be available upon out arrival but that if we booked directly they could get us better rates. It was becoming clear that the Spa was just trying to avoid paying Expedia whatever part of the fee they usually get. We were ultimately forced to book another hotel during our layover and Expedia told us we had to wait until they get their money back from this place to refund us on that stay. I think its insane that Expedia still has this location listed on their services with this level of dishonesty and stress that they put on their customers. Keep in mind we were literally on a flight to this destination when the first message came threw. DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!

This is a peaceful place with a good ambiance in which you can get great spa services, but is under staffed. The restaurant was overpriced for what you got and not in line with it's pricing, like no bread or salads to go with your entrée, or that the dessert was inedible. There no TV's in the room, and that is ok, but there is also no air conditioning which is ok if you have air flow... but there was no screens on the balcony doors or windows... so either you get bit up by bugs with the windows open, or they are closed and you are hot at night. Also pretty bad was the bed. Clearly it had seen better days and was actually collapsed on one side with a curved crease down the middle, so you felt like you were rolling off the edge if you were on that side of the bed.

The property is beautiful, the site is wonderful and the rooms are great! They were short on staff so the restaurant service was slow and I couldn’t get the massage I wanted.

The hotel in itself was lovely, but we were the only guests there and so I would have imagined the staff to be a bit more attentive. Breakfast was nice but we did miss cooked options.

There was one person running the whole hotel! He was very nice man & did his best. ....but it is obvious that the hotel does not get enough business and is UNDER STAFFED. No bar , no air conditioning, no TV. Hot tub cold....pool dirty. 😩😩😩😩😩

I really loved the big open rooms and high ceilings. The place was really lovely and all the little details were very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable and I loved going to sleep with the stars and waking up with the sun. I very much enjoyed lounging by the pool and thought the service was excellent from breakfast to poolside pitchers of water. I will definitely come back and stay longer.

Braulio and the staff made sure I had a wonderful stay. It has the convenience of being close to the airport but still gives you the escape of the country with beautiful views of coffee fields in the distance.

Overpriced for the service and amenities included. The breakfast is pathetic, the service is lacking, the pools are unusable as they’re freezing cold, half the machines at the gym don’t work and the massage was basic at best. The room size and the view were the only redeeming features.

Lovely views, but falls short of potential
The views are amazing. The room was comfortable, although no AC (in the winter that works - not sure if one was there during the summer!). The staff was friendly, but not particularly knowledgeable. Also, on our arrival date, we were later than expected - about 830, and by then they had closed not only the restaurant, but even the bar. Overall, this property has potential, but needs a professional management team to bring it up to the standard it could achieve. Finally, wifi was only available in the lounge area - and even that was pretty weak.

Quiet getaway
Quiet getaway close to the airport. Quaint resort with great views of the area. We didn't use the spa but looks great. No tv, no wifi (except in the lobby), just relaxation. Maintenance of the resort is somewhat lacking but still with the visit.

Doesn't live up to expectations
My husband and I booked a stay for the last night of our 10 day trip to Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We were hoping to use the spa facilities, possibly have a massage (after a 5-day biking trip) and luxuriate in our en-suite room (which looked beautiful). Sadly we arrived just after 5 to learn the spa was closing, no massage therapists were on site and the room in our bath had no plug so we couldn't even have a bath. Also, no plug could be found on the whole property despite only a handful of the rooms being let out. By the end of our stay, still no fix for the issue. The manager was less than helpful and when we complained he fluffed his way through a series of implausible excuses but never apologised. The next morning we called to ask what time the spa opened, arrived at the appointed time to find it closed, cold and out of use. Again, another pathetic excuse from management saying it had to be booked. (Did we not phone two hours previously?). Really disappointed. Asclepios LOOKS like the whole package but comes up short in many areas, most notably service and customer care. For five star pricing in Costa Rica you expect all-singing, all dancing but sadly these guys just take the money and have no pride in the customer experience. Don't be fooled by the pretty packaging, your money is better spent elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed here for one night during our honeymoon. The hotel itself is nice and cute and reminds you of a wellness resort. However we were the only ones staying inside this hotel so it felt very lonely indeed. The rooms were nice with great views and the bed was comfortable as well. Bathrooms are nice and big and feels cozy. We thought the pool was ready for use but turns out that the pool has been under construction for some time. We did not get any notification of this at the time of booking.

We had no water. The hotel manager Braulio kept lying to us. What seemed like was going to be one of the best wellness and spas that I'd ever been to, turned out to be a disaster. It was downright horrific & the manager was so unprofessional, unaccomidating, and just didn't care.

We stayed here as a stopover on the way to drop family at the airport. As a wellness centre I'm sure its great. But as a hotel (I found it advertised on Hotels.com) its slightly lacking. We found that there were few staff (never did find anybody to carry the bags to our rooms) and that reception closed very early , so when the soap dispensers did not work in the shower there was no one to sort. Breakfast was a set affair, but perhaps the pinnacle was that there was no coffee on site (by order of the owner) despite the fact that its built on a coffee plantation - so just tea for breakfast - by order! SO, as a retreat or treatment place I'm sure its great. As a hotel I wopuld say Quirky!

Quiet resort hotel, good for relaxing
Asclepios is a good get away with friendly staff, a pretty location, well maintained grounds. The spa services are reasonably priced (relative to the US) and the food is ok (although the menu is somewhat limited). The included breakfast is a fruit plate, bread (some good whole grain breads), and nice teas... if you're typically hungry in the mornings, they do offer an extended menu, but expect to pay extra for breakfast. Location wise, you should understand that this hotel isn't centrally located for most of the tourist stops... so if you want to head over to Poa (Volcano), Doka (Coffe), Downtown San Jose (Museums), etc... anticipate some expenses related to transportation (ask the front desk to call Milton - excellent taxi driver - tell em' Anthony and Silvia said hi). There really isn't much around the hotel in walking distance (this includes ATMs, Grocery stores, etc...)... so also plan accordingly. Our room was nice and spacious, with a pretty view, a water carafe w/ mint every day... overall pretty good. It should be noted that the walls are pretty thin and sound travels (though most people are pretty quiet). Our room (Weng Ching) had one oddity... the switch for the fan/ light, also operated the light in the adjacent room... which lead to a few late night surprises... part of the adventure.

Beautiful place but food needs to change
Beautiful grounds and amenities. Nice and quiet. The view is spectacular. Room was wonderful. I would love to go again except I think the menu un the restaurant needs to be changed! If that didn't change, I would not go again because the menu was TOO healthy (and I am a relatively healthy eater) - a lot of the food just didn't taste good and was not appetizing.

Honeymoon Weekend
Our stay at the Hotel was unique. Being on our Honeymoon we wanted to chill and enjoy Costa Rica . The Hotel we booked was great ,but I felt it was more so for a spiritual retreat. The front desk staff was great. The staff while.only consisting of maybe 3-4 people were pretty amazing. They took great care of and my wife, but the hotel wasn't made for entertainment. We were the only people on the resort and the massage type music made us feel like we needed a lightning jolt of energy. The Food while good was overpriced even for a wellness spa in Costa Rica. We were forced to eat both nights because everything was so far away. The highlight was Milton our Cab driver. He took great care of us Pura Vida Style. He knew the front desk woman and that made up for the stay at the hotel. He drove us for the trip, went into the various excursions, and even helped us out of a monsoon at the Waterfall. He introduced us to his girlfriend Ingrid, took us out at night up the road to authentic Costa Rican Food and we even went to a Kareoke bar. I think the hotel was good, but a bit more personality will make it great.

A great hotel a little careless.
A great hotel but it is a little careless. The food was not good at all and expensive. Paid $4 for a couple of plain eggs. Breakfast is included but only a plate of fruits and a toast with juice. The rooms are very big and the bed is comfortable. Pool is nice.

Relaxing place in the middle of nowhere!
When for a 4 days escape type vacation, the hotel was perfect for us , very good service, people working in the hotel was very friendly. Room was big and clear. Food wealthy but pricing. Very relaxing place . View and breezy from mountain was priceless.

Wellness gem in San Jose
This was our pick over an airport hotel before leaving Costa Rica. It was so worth it! It's about 20 min from the airport - hotel offers to arrange a taxi for your pickup/drop off. And it was so serene with very helpful staff. The food was clean and healthy, the room was just as expected and they have a cuddly cat named Aphrodite on the property. We stayed in Eros and would come back again. We didn't get any spa services done. Just enjoyed the pool, views, bathtub and relaxation.

I was often the only guest during my four day stay but that's exactly what I was looking for. The staff was attentive, friendly and helpful and spoke excellent english. The grounds of the hotel and views are beautiful, the food in the restaurant is tasty and healthy, and the spa treatments were amazing. I especially enjoyed the hammam or turkish steam house.

A Wellness Escape in Costa Rica
My girlfriend and I planned a relaxing week in Costa Rica well in advance and originally selected accommodation at a different location. We received notification 3 weeks before our travel to Costa Rica that our original hotel selection was cancelled by the hotel which required that we make last-minute plans concerning our lodging. We stumbled upon Asclepios and booked out 6 nights there. We were greeted on the day of our reservation by welcoming staff and superb service. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and always willing to ensure that we were looked after. We stayed in the "Aphrodite" room during the entire duration of our reservation and we took advantage of the turkish bath, floatation therapy, and sauna services. Given the 'wellness' nature of the retreat it wasn't surprising that coffee, soda, and alcohol options are either limited or non-existent and we did not mind much. When I travel to Costa Rica again I will elect to stay once more at Asclepios; the stay was very much enjoyable.

An Excellent Quiet Retreat.
We had a wonderful experience at Asclepios. The grounds were amazingly well kept and clean. They grow some of their own food and herbs there. The pool has an amazing view of a large mountainside. It is exceptionally quiet (Except the Crickets at dusk and dawn). Everything is green, organic, and solar powered including the pool which is always kept warm. The food is a little expensive but honestly it was the BEST food we found in all of Costa Rica, they have an amazing chef and staff in general. Everyone is very knowledgeable about the country. Breakfast usually includes a fruit bowl (custom prepared), some bread with a wonderful fruit spread and some tea or infusion. It was perfect to start our day but do NOT expect a continental breakfast, eggs, pancakes, etc. Everything in this restaurant is low carb, high protein, or vegan. There is no coffee on the grounds, no vending machines, nothing of the traditional hotel here, this is a Spa and place of peace and meditation. There is no air conditioning, so it can get hot mid to late day, but the rooms are very open with tall ceilings and many doors and windows. They have a huge array of amazing Spa services from flotation therapy to massage and body wraps. It is an EXCELLENT destination to just come and relax without ever leaving the grounds, or to come back to when you are out adventuring. Just be prepared to have a generous budget with you! Perfect for Couples and worth every penny! Enjoy your Stay!

Don't miss the spa treatments!
I really enjoyed my stay at this wonderful spa. I had a flight out of San Jose in the morning and this was the perfect place to unwind after a two week trip. I highly recommend their spa treatments; I treated myself to the Arabic hammam, a lymphatic massage with a body scrub, and then ended my day with the floatation therapy. The service was excellent, the best spa treatments I enjoyed while in Costa Rica. The restaurant was closed for dinner, but I enjoyed a lovely lunch and breakfast there. I was in the Eros room and it was very comfortable, I could have slept all day. Will definitely stay here again on my next trip!

Beautiful Oasis
It's funny to escape into a mediterranean-themed oasis in the middle of one of Costa Rica's town centers, but alas, Asclepios is a beautiful little oasis in the midst of Alujuela's bustling activity. This hotel is a true gem. The grounds are exquisitely designed and the staff is friendly. My partner and I stayed here after a few days of "roughing it" on cloud forest hikes, canopy excursions, and other outdoor adventures. Asclepios provided a much-needed respite.

Beautiful, relaxing spot
We spent our last night in Costa Rica here, which it was ideal for. Our room - Afrodite - was one of the most lovely we've stayed in. The views, location, lovely swimming pool & sweet patio where we enjoyed lunch, made our stay really special. The healthy soups and salads were delicious, as was the organic wine we enjoyed as we soaked up the sun. Before my excellent facial in one of the fully equipped treatment rooms, we watched the sunset from the hot tub, which they will heat for you on request (same goes for the hammam). We shared a peaceful dinner on the terrace. The staff are attentive, even going so far as to overhear my boyfriend mention he fancied a crumble and making him one especially. We were there before peak season, so a few improvements were in progress during our stay, but it seems the hotel was set up to be busier and slightly more high-end than it has turned out, so, while we felt it was great value, there are some hints of a little faded glory about the place. We also felt that there are a few unnecessary restrictions - we weren't allowed to have our lunch by the pool but had to eat at the restaurant, and in some cases the food was a little tight (my breakfast portion of avocado was one small slice looking a bit sorry for itself on a saucer & the fruit salad wasn't very fresh). That said, we feel Asclepios is an overlooked gem that we loved and would definitely recommend.

The lady who built this heaven on Earth, knew something that a lot of us don't. We are New Yorkers, impossible to please, right? Well, it is possible! 6 days without coffee, we'very never had a better sleep. Gym opens when the sun comes up and your room is full of bird signing due to floor to ceiling windows/doors. You see a Volcano from your balcony and can't fully comprehend how mesmerizing the nature is! we have had counless massages and even a facial that beat the one I pay hundreds for in NY. The grounds are so grand that staff grow veggies there that we ate for lunch or dinner. Which were super healthy and our tummies couldn't thank us enough.
