“Excellent San Fran Apartment”

The hotel staff were really helpful for our entire stay. The apartment was lovely and we couldn't have asked for more, it had everything. The location was very handy for Union Square and all the bus routes to get around the city. Free wifi helped in organising trips. Would definitiely stay again.

“Fantastic stay at the Steinhart”

Fantastic stay at the Steinhart. Great location, less than a 10 minute walk to union square. We stayed in a duplex studio which was great value and it was great to have a little kitchen to make tea and breakfast. Loved it.

“Fullsize apartment”

Was very impressed with the apartment when we arrived. Very tasteful, very clean, very spacious. The only setbacks were a fair amount of noise from the street (our apartment faced Sutter St), especially on Friday and Saturday nights (sirens, voices, car alarms, etc), and the location was just that little too far from Union Square for getting easily there and back between baby sleep times.

“Beautiful Hotel, Horrible Location”

It REALLY saddens me to write this but I think that people should be armed with the facts. The Steinhart is truly a stunning hotel. The service was excellent and the room was amazing. As a hotel, I would definitely give it 5 stars. I wondered why this hotel was so cheap, upon my arrival, I found out why. The neighborhood is like a shantytown. I walked from the BART station to the hotel (a 5 minute walk) and I actually felt scared (I am usually not threatened in this situation at all). I was surrounded by at least 70 aggressive people on my short journey shouting and fighting on the streets. The roads stunk like strong stale urine. It is EVERYWHERE and you cannot escape the stench, it literally took your breath away - I have never experienced anything like it. Every time I left the hotel I was in the same situation. I have noted that many reviewers of hotels state that their hotel was in a bad area, and I usually found this an unfair assessment. I have stayed at some of these hotels and whilst there was the occasional homeless person, it was really not that bad. As beautiful as this hotel was - it actually wrecked my SF experience - I left not wanting to ever come back to SF. Luckily I came back later in my trip and stayed at a hotel on Market street and my love for SF was reignited. Whilst I would recommend the hotel itself to everyone, it pains me to say that I cannot recommend it considering the area. This hotel is really only suitable for people with a car.
