“not so good location, but goog front service”

It isn't so far fron Powell street, but the way to go to the hotel isn't enough safe. If you walk alone at night, it won't be good location. However, employees at the hotel are nice people. I had trouble with my travel, then they helped me. They are also sophisticated. They will try to do their best for you. About room, it doesn't have prominent problem. I think bed is pretty small.

“No frills, but clean...”

A last minute overnight stay led us to book the Renoir. It was a reasonable cost and only 1 BART stop away from Union Square. Plus the Muni buses & street cars have a stop right outside, which proved great for sightseeing. As two street-wise women, the neighborhood wasn't as scary as other reviews suggested, but we did stay vigilant. Hotel is definitely not for those looking for luxury. Clean but worn decor, with a odd mix of guests. Our budget room did not have air conditioning, though we found a fan in the closet. A bit noisy as we were only on the second floor, but that's gonna happen most anywhere downtown. In a pinch, I'd stay there again. Don't expect more than a clean place to lay your head.

“good hotel to stay”

The inside looking is pretty good. The public transportation around the hotel is convenient, three minutes walking to the terminal of cable car, and two minutes to the subway and bus stop.

“Not the best”

For the price it was good, and the folks were very helpful. I would stay there again. Although its not the best neighborhood, I would walk around there at night alone.

“Rustic Charm for the Daring without Deep Pockets”

The hotel is a lovely old hotel. Unfortunately, for those who expect vistas of grandeur, you don't get that. The room was small, but the beds were clean. It's in the Tenderloin district so you see many, many homeless. The trolley stopped right across from the back door so it was not a problem for my girlfriend and I. We got to see and do more things in all areas because we were forced to travel on the MUNI everywhere. We loved the twice-weeklyFarmer's Market right in front of the Civic Center which was only a block from the hotel. The C. Cntr has beautiful architecture and an awesome mall in front of it where we got to join some Asian housewives in Tae Chi...loved it. The Asian museum is nearby as is the Ballet center. Daylight walking is not a problem. I attended daily mass at St. Boniface Catholic church which is just about 5 blocks away. For those who are squeamish, this lovely old church caters to the homeless so you will see them sleeping on the pews as well as participating in the daily prayers. The hotel lobby has some lovely Renoir paintings (probably imitations), beautiful old furniture and the most helpful concierge and desk help. We loved meeting people from many countries and the food at the Cafe Do Brasil was reasonable and delicious.

“Good location”

No it's not the Ritz, but by far not that bad of a hotel. the rooms were clean, staff was friendly. Yes the hotel is not in the best part of town on Market Street, but it is safe. I don't go on vacation to spend it in a high class hotel, but to see the city. The Renoir is an ideal location for walking or taking the Bart or Muni. I would stay there again.

“Good value for money”

Lots of character in this hotel as its 100 years old. Im used to staying in newer hotels but the renoir had some charm. I was there on a friday night so it was a bit noisy on the streets, which I could from my room. I would stay outside the city if you want a place to relax, this location was good though if you want to be in the heart of the city and close to attractions.

“Old school hotel with a very nice atmosphere. The area is not the best!”

We stood for 3 nights in the Renoir hotel. It has a nice and big lobby with very friendly and helpful employees. The rooms were clean and comfortable for the price we paid. We got the upgrade to the room with view to the street. It is def. well worth it, because you have a great view over downtown. And the hotel has a roof were you can chill after a long day.

“Happy with my stay.”

This hotel has a very good location for walking around the area. The staff was very friendly, helpful with directions to local attractions. No breakfast or anything, but a little coffee stand downstairs, and within walking distance of a lot of stores, food and otherwise. Lovely inside, too. It is showing its age just a little bit, but not in any distressing way. (At least to me, anyway.) Also, I noticed a review here before I went, complaining about the homeless problem? That is a citywide problem, and not the fault of this hotel. The noise is a price of the location.
